Sarien Ruseff
Totally understood. Bad luck with the rolls there, and Sarien had been expecting more support from the others. Bad tactics on his part!
One question: Did Sarien succeed in hitting any of the bandits with his attempt to shoot one earlier? I never saw anything about that. With the low rolls, I doubt it and it'd only be a nick nonetheless, but it'd make me feel a wee bit better about the present circumstances.
Hardin Clegane

Hardin adjusts his course and sprints as quickly as he is able to U18, then channels energy. This should (30' radius) also get Tao. It regrettably, will also get the wounded bandit.
This should stabilize Sarien.

Freya Gilles
Did Rauno act last round? Or did his Sense Motive use up his actions? Didn't know if he was going to get a chance to do anything else but stand there. Or did he decide to stay there and hold onto the girl?
Rauno Redpath
I assumed searching the girl and evaluating their dispositions was my turn. If not...
Flushed with embarrassment and anger, Rauno snaps If she'd been a halfling assassin it would have just been a smart response! He drops the girl and snatches up his crossbow. Then he leaps out of the wagon, taking in the scene.
Freya Gilles
Well, dang it, now I'm confused. I need a recap.
Round 1, Freya cast mage armor and got out of the wagon; Rauno grabbed the girl. Round 2, Freya cast obscuring mist and moved; Rauno searched the girl; the kids talked on their initiative. Round 3, Freya beat out the fire on the wagon; Rauno ... Sensed Motive? The DM only has us on Round 2; maybe that's the confusion. Freya's acted since Rauno searched the girl and is about to act again, so I think you can do something unless the DM rules that it took all your actions to Sense Motive.
Then he leaps out of the wagon, taking in the scene.
You see ... mist. Sorry. Hampers our sight as much as the bad guys'. :)
Round 4, init 21
Satisfied that the wagon is no longer in danger of going up in flames, Freya ducks back between the wagons to the crying girl and her brother. "Hush up your crying and listen to me," she says intently, kneeling down to address the children in a low voice. "You said you have no choice. Well, I'm about to give you one. Whatever's happening out there beyond the mist, you can either go back with your 'da' or men just like him and spend your lives as victims or pawns, or you can say 'To the Abyss with all of them' and walk away without looking back. I know a group of idiot do-gooders who will feed and clothe and shelter you, burbling all the time about what a great privilege it is to influence the next generation of Wiscrani, but you have to make the choice to be free. Otherwise, you will be back here again or somewhere just like here, doing the same thing, with the same bumps and bruises. What's it going to be?"
DM J
Yeah, apologies for the lack of clarity. We're in round 3. Freya has just beat the fire into submission with her cloak. Sense Motive was a free action; additionally, Rauno's crossbow is like;y to already be loaded, since combat was entirely expected. If you have somethign else you want to do with your standard action, you're welcome to it!

Feeling his wounds beginning to heal, the wounded bandit's eyes widen. They've got a healer, boss!
The bandit leader's eyes narrow. Well then, kill him!
The archers turn to train their bows on the Iomedaen.
Bandit Leader: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 (with Favored enemy: human)
Longbow Lackey 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Longbow Lackey 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Although several of the Bandit's shots are well-aimed, they are thwarted by cover and deflected by the Cleric's armor, both physical and spiritual. The melee thugs move in to engage.
Longsword Lackey: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Rapier Lackey: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Sap Lackey: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Iomedae's servant moves in a blur, his flail parrying two strikes at once, and his spiritual armor turning aside a desperate strike from the Longsword-wielding combatant.

Freya takes her round 4 action to talk to the children as above, and we're back to Rauno, unless he wants to retcon round 3 to a double move or something per the DM's directions. I was confused because I read the bandit's AoO on Tao as his initiative action that round. Back on track now!

"You said you have no choice. Well, I'm about to give you one. The girl - age 12 or so - stops sniffling, and looks up at Freya with red, puffy eyes. Well, Miss, either our father wins and beats us again tomorrow, or he loses and we become orphans. That choice is really up to you. We hate our lives, though. We'd love to live differently. I know you're not exactly in a position to trust me right now, but I wish you could. I like you quite a lot, actually... ...her voice trails off.

I don’t think I want to revise round 3, just because I’ve caused enough confusion in this melee already. I’m going to assume that Rauno, embarrassed by his poor take on the situation with the kids, was flustered for a few seconds and lost that action.
Round 4.
Rauno will move to O17 and cast Color Spray. The cone fills squares LMN 18, MN 19 and N 20. Link to Spell Effects. DC 15 will save.
At the bandit in L17, he’ll shout The fight’s over for your friends! You better run while you can! Bluff 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14. The +7 assumes the bandit is human; it is only +5 otherwise.
DM J
Longbow Lackey 1 Will Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Longbow Lackey 2 Will Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9
As Rauno's flamboyant spell washes over the bow-weilding bandits, an audible "thump" can be heard as their bodies hit the turf.
They will be unconcious for 2d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3 rounds.
Is there a mechanical benefit to that Bluff check? Either way, here's a sense motive to oppose: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
They're my employees, not my friends, prissy-boy, the man grunts, clearly intending to bury an arrow in Rauno at his earliest opportunity.

"Hop in the wagon then," Freya tells them grimly, "and don't come out for anything."
Tao Culverton
In moving past the bandit (T17), Tao attempts to dodge his attack.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
He then moves into a flanking position with Hardin (R17-18, S17-18) and takes a swing at the flanked bandit (T18, with power attack).

In moving past the bandit (T17), Tao attempts to dodge his attack.
acrobatics: *fail*
The bandit takes the opportunity to whip his sap around in an effort to catch the big man's clumsy attempt to tumble through.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
...however, the attempt is extremely telegraphed, and easily avoided by the half-orc, who subsequently mows down the man's rapier-wielding counterpart.
Looking around for a way to escape and finding nothing, the sap-wielding thug furiously assults Tao.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
However, he has no better luck this time, and steps backward into the Obscuring Mist.
The bandit leader looses and arrow at Rauno...
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 (with Favored Enemy: Human)
...an effort which is thwarted by the Varisian's Mage Armor, and flees to D-17.

The man ducks going around the tree and Hardin's shot swings over his head.

Having delivered the above instructions to the children, Freya squeezes between the wagons again to see what's going on outside her cloud of mist. She is startled to suddenly see an unfamiliar shape emerge from the mist just as she is about to step into him. move to U15 Caught by surprise by the enemy lurking in her mist, she spits out an arcane word. casting daze at bandit in T16 (Will save DC 13)
Rauno Redpath
Rauno seems mildly stunned that the bandit bought his bluff! It doesn't slow him down, however. He sprints after the archer (move to J17). That puts him just in range for a Telekinetic Fist.
To Hit 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Is that right? The bandit leader has a move of 40'?
Edit: Woohoo! A crit! Does that double damage on an effect like Telekinetic Fist?

Actually, nice catch, no he doesn't. He's actually in F-17. And yes, that's a crit!
Rauno's telekinetic fist slams into the Bandit Captain, hitting in the vital area just below the belt.
Oof!

The man looks momentarily puzzled, but shrugs off the effects of the spell, and appears to be poised to strike back.
Drop your weapon and surrender. You will not get another offer.
The bandit captain looks over his shoulder at the hulking warrior, and begins to visibly tremble. He drops his bow and raises his hands.

And ... does he? It's his initiative. :)

LOL! I forgot Sarien is unconcious. Oh, the things a weekend can do to a guy...
The bandit within the mist brings his small cudgel to bear on Freya, clearly put off by the creeping mist around him.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 MISS vs. Freya
He curses, then moves near the horses. Hardin steps forward, attempting to disarm the man, but the bandit avoids the attempt through blind luck.
AoO to Freya, if you're armed, if not, it's your turn anyway. Let's see if we can get by with no map. The other bandit in front of Tao is cowering in the road, unarmed.
Freya Gilles
The only weapon she ever mentioned having out is a crossbow, so no AoO.
Not wanting to pursue the bandit through the mist and perhaps be surprised again, Freya ducks out of her conjured cloud to take a look at the battlefield. Seemingly disappointed that everything seems to be wrapped up, she asks, "Which one's the leader?" then adds as an afterthought, "And is the street rat dead?"
She'll ready an attack to shoot the bandit in the mist, should he come running out. Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Damage 1d8 ⇒ 4
Rauno Redpath
Rauno will move to the fallen bandits and begin to disarm them. He'll keep his crossbow in hand while doing so in case one is "playing dead" or someone else emerges from the mist.
Note: he doesn't have a ready action, he's just not setting down the xbow.
My giant friend, these two will wake up soon and likely be disoriented for a half minute after that.
Tao Culverton
@bandit leader "You, come with me."
Tao holds his greatsword in one hand, rests the flat of the blade on his shoulder, grabs the collar of the bandit leader and ushers him over to the two sleeping bandits.
@bandit leader "Get on your stomach and place your hands on the back of your head. You are not to move or speak until instructed to do so."
Tao then takes up a position where both sleeping bandits and the leader are within striking distance.
"Rauno, if you bind this one, I'll keep an eye on those two until they wake. I assume the plan is to take them prisoner."

Hardin jogs towards the horses, and the creaking, his flail and shield at the ready. If an opportunity make a hit happens, he shall do so.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 Perception roll to isolate the sounds and find our lurker

1-20 misses due to Obscuring Mist. 1d100 ⇒ 11
Hardin wades into the fog, his flail at the ready. As he approaches the horses, he notices the remaining bandit holding one of them by the reins. The horse has been disengaged from the wagon, and the bandit appears to be ready to mount the creature and attempt an escape. As the mists swirl around him, Hardin delivers a blow that he is certain should have caved in the man's head - but it whistles just in front of his face instead, hardin's sense of depth perception clearly thrown by the arcane fog.

"Fine," Freya shrugs. "If no one else cares he's dead, why should I?" Hearing the sounds from near the horses, she takes a step closer and re-readies her crossbow. "There's one left in the mist," she warns the rest of the group.
Re-readying attack on the bandit should he come out of the mist (hope I roll better this time) Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 Damage 1d8 ⇒ 5 :P
Hardin Clegane
|
Hardin will call to Freya, "Please grab the bridle of the roan."
Looking up the riding rules, it is highly unlikely that the horses pulling the wagons are saddled, cinched or have stirrups. This will make the horses much harder to mount and control. Freya handling the reins or bridle will make it even harder.
And with that, he's going to step up and swing
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Attack
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 Damage
DM J
Long post eaten, for some reason. Long story short, the bandit captain will continue to comply with Tao's order. He apparently knows when he's beaten. I'll consider that Hardin's swing as the bandit mounts the horse, which surely must provoke an attack of opportunity from the Iomedaen. With it's failure, the bandit is now mounted. The bareback penalty is -5. Mounting a horse as a move action does not generally require a check, so with the penalty, the check would essentially be DC 5. The bandit has a Ride modifier of +5, so no check is needed to mount the horse bareback.
Bandit (Ride)(with Bareback -5): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20
Through enormous force of will, the bandit manages to control the roan in the midst of combat (DC 20), and urges it to flee South, through the stand of trees and into the countryside. Freya looses a crossbow bolt that she had prepared specifically for this purpose, and sails it high and wide.
The horse double-moves through the stand of trees and is now essentially 100 feet away. Barring some sort of Herculean effort on the part of the group, this guy appears to be getting away. Anybody have any last-ditch efforts?
Tao Culverton
Tao yells out, "Watch these three!" He then moves just South of the fleeing bandit. "Surrender bandit or you leave me no choice."
If the bandit attempts to run, Tao will take his AoO.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
damage: 3d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 3, 1) + 7 = 12
wow bad dice!
Freya Gilles
Freya curses and tosses down her crossbow. "Was he the leader?" she demands.
No long-range options. Look like we just cost Mr. Horse Guy some money and business by getting his horse stolen.
Rauno Redpath
Rauno will take a shot at the horse (yes, the horse). Hopefully a small wound will make it throw the rider.
Crossbow to hit 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage 1d8 ⇒ 6
Edit: Failing that (and it does look like a fail), Rauno will use his bonded object to cast Silent Image. He'll create an owlbear emerging in front of them attacking.
