euphemisms
Doesn't the euphemisms spill/bleed through FAWTLY, or is mine of a completely separate beast?

Different beast. Its like comparing wolves, dogs and foxes. Similar but not the exact same.

I am going crazy waiting on college football to start. :(

How could football fix insanity?? I mean I will do so if it helps but I just don't see how a bunch of padded sweaty men chasing around a weird shaped ball could help my sanity in anyway. Now the cheerleaders on the other hand could keep me young for years.

It is an addiction to a particular type of violence. I need a fix.

So, your statement is sort of like saying "How could a cigarette fix insanity?" To which I would respond that you would know the answer if you had any close friends (or family members) that are addicted to cigarettes. :)

But doesn't the addiction create the situation that causes the insanity?

So, overcome the addiction and you regain sanity. ;)

As a sidenote, this reminds me of a quote my friends used to say...

"I'm not an alcoholic, I'm just a drunk. Alcoholics go to meetings"

The first step is realizing you have an addiction. If you never realize that, you don't have a problem!

Do what Smeagol's Grandmother used to do. Give kiddies plenty of sugar and caffeine until Smeagol runs full-speed head-first into stone wall. Smeagol sleep lots after that. Smeagol's grandmother was wise woman in between time spent with authorities.

When I went to the University of Kentucky, one year I roomed with a friend from back home. He basically lived for beer that year and did not do well at all in class.

One day, from the front desk of my dorm, I picked up one of the pamphlets they had about determining whether or not you or your friend(s) were alcoholics.

The pamphlet had about three pages of symptoms to look for to determine if alcoholism was at play. My roommate exhibited practically every single symptom on a DAILY basis.

After not doing well a second year and his grades making it basically impossible to get into the pharmacy college at UK (top notch program) he moved back home and went to Marshall University. He straightened up, greatly reduced his drinking and got a chemistry degree (and possibly biology too, I don't remember). Since, he has had an outstanding life, job, runs marathons, and is about to finish his MBA. He still drinks (in moderation) and never went to any form of alcoholic help program.

Nope, instead we just said prayers, got in pj's, sang songs, and got all tucked into bed. I think I will watch a show and then mop the kitchen floor. I know I will not sleep tonight. Already did dishes and a load of laundry. Getting ready to throw in a second load while I watch an episode of Veronica Mars. Since I have been sleeping with no tummy issues I have got behind on the show. :D

My toes are a pretty blue BTW, in case anyone cared.:P

So, has anyone else noticed that when you first get on the messageboards, but haven't logged in yet, the Off Topic section is hidden? You can see the title, but none of the threads in the section, kind of like the way you can hide sections whose contents you don't want to see.

WTF?!? Are they afraid that noobs will come to the site, see how cool we are, and not hang out with everyone else? Do they fear the power of the OTD???? Is it hate? Jealousy?

The only other section to suffer this ignominious treatment is the Forum Games section.

Actually I think it is fear that new comers will stumble upon one of the many contentious political/religious threads that festoon this subforum like mold blotches and be so horrified they will never come back.

It's because of the political and religious flaming crap geysers.

The fire was courtesy of Peter Jackson. Thanks!

Yeah, the list has taken about a week, with lots of tinkering and lots of learning how spreadsheets work.

Morning, all. What did I miss?

Well, while running late for work, Alex called to see if anyone could come pick him up from the train station. Unfortunately, his co-workers were all in a meeting to discuss rampant tardiness in the workplace. Across town, Leo started to regret his decision to leave his job and return to school as a grad assistant, when his professor gave him some rather embarassing tasks to perform. Meanwhile, Scott decided that it would soon be time to....No, wait! That's my soap opera.

Scarab Sages

And, yeah, it may seem like I was waiting...lurking even...keeping a close watch for when CH would show up to ask what he missed, but it was really a coincidence that I checked the site right after he posted. Seriously! Look at this face! Would I lie to you?
