I'm a fan of Deep Purple, but I like my Sabbath Black. The grittiness and lack of technique make Ozzy's voice the perfect complement to those heavy riffs (for me). I grew up on the Doors, Hendrix, and Janis, so when I switched over to metal in my teenage years I didn't really go for the classical technique of the Dickinsons and Dios. Back then I guess I associated that upper register style of singing with hair metal and glam rock. I've got respect, but it's just not my style.
All that said, watching old videos of Ozzy singing with Sabbath, yelling "COCAINE!" after every line of Snowblind makes me facepalm. Yeah, Oz, we get it...

So...having switched over to metal, what exactly do you listen to?

Small as he was, I remember a fan in the front row grabbing Dio's forearm enthusiastically. Ronnie lifted him into the air like it was nothing.
Love the song links thus far. Here's two more.

Ah, Holy Diver, how I loved thee. My little memory paean to RJD over here. His music definitely made a difference.

Well, that was a LOOONG time ago. Initially Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera (C.F.H. and after), Sepultura, Slayer and so on. Thrash, mostly. Nowadays it's mostly dub reggae but whenever I have the hankering I put on some Sabbath, the first four Metallica albums, maybe some Death or Slayer if the wife isn't around. I still admire the musicianship but I'm just not feeling that aggressive anymore. Sometimes it's fun to have a laugh at the black/death scene but Youtube is best for that. What's the fun of listening to Cookie Monster if you can't see the outrageous costumes too? The best video I've seen is Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse giving singing lessons to some German kid. "You have to sing from the diaphragm" LOL.
And yourself?
