Welcome to the shining jewel of the Inner Sea, the City at the Center of the World, the Greatest City, raised from the depths by the Last Azlant and created by his hand!
Welcome to Absalom!
Some of you may remember this little fan project called Wayfinder (if you aren't, go get yourself acquainted). It is now time for Part 3 - PaizoCon III Print Edition! Once again I will be lead cat herder for this project, and here are the rules and guidelines for submitting to the fanzine.
Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Chronicles world of Golarion.
Types of Submissions
In Wayfinder #2, we started a few regular columns, which we are continuing in Wayfinder #3:
- Sidetreks: Set in a particular region of Golarion, Sidetreks will feature short outlines for a sidetrek adventure. Please reference Wayfinder #2 for the layout for this article. For Wayfinder #3, these regions are Absalom, the Isle of Kortos, and the Inner Sea. One sidetrek outline per submission for this column. Submission size: 325 words.
- Tales from the Front: Fiction articles based on any of Paizo’s adventure modules or paths.
- Taste of Golarion: We're continuing collections for The Golarion Cookbook! One recipe per submission for this column.
- Weal or Woe? Two NPCs (including statblocks), one helpful, one not so much. Include hooks for the PCs to know (or hate) this NPC and how to use them in a campaign.
In addition to our regular columns, Wayfinder #3 will be focusing on the Isle of Kortos and its most famous settlement, Absalom. Please use Pathfinder Chronicles: Guide to Absalom as your main reference! In the case of a plethora of articles on similar subjects, preference will be given to articles that follow this theme. As always, crunch, fiction and flavor articles are welcome!
Guidelines
- Thou shalt not disregard canon, thou shalt build upon it.
- Keep in mind thy audience. No slash fic/porn fantasies, cheesecake/beefcake/fan service - keep it PG-13.
- Short and sweet. Unless otherwise specified, max article sizes are 750 and 1500 words. Anything over 1500 words will have to be pre-approved by me.
Submission Instructions
- Conditions for Submissions. All authors and artists must agree to have their works reproduced for other Wayfinder products, be it for translations into other languages, special publications, or use on a Wayfinder website. (We will be responsible for the truthfulness of the translations). All of Wayfinder’s publications are NON-PROFIT, and authors and artists will be given proper credit where due.
- Send all submissions to me via email with the subject line "Wayfinder #3". My email is listed in my profile.
- All text submissions submitted in .doc format (doesn't matter if you use Office or OpenOffice). Do not use fancy fonts or colors - these will get stripped out in the editing and layout process. Use the standard body font for the program you're using - bold and italics are fine.
- All image/art in JPG or PNG, 300 dpi resolution preferred. If you do not send it in a high enough resolution, it will be resized appropriately.
- Include your name and board name in your submission - example, "Liz 'Lilith' Courts".
Your entries will go through editing passes for clarity and concision. Depending on time constraints, you may or may not receive feedback on the editing process and your script.
- DEADLINE: March 17th. All entries will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Since this is a print edition, there will be a hard cap on the size of the final publication, and some articles may be rejected.
Advertising
- Fan projects operating under Paizo’s Community Use Policy are welcome to advertise their websites and materials in Wayfinder #3 for a small fee.
- Third party publishers wishing to advertise their Pathfinder Roleplaying Game-compatible projects in Wayfinder #3 are welcome to advertise as well. Space is available for 1/4, 1/2 and full page ads.
- Email me for questions about pricing. Email is in my profile - be sure to include "Wayfinder #3 Advertising" in your subject line.
- DEADLINE: Until we have all funds needed for printing!
Print editions of Wayfinder #3 will be available to all badge-wearing attendees of PaizoCon III (limit one per person) and contributors. People who donate will receive a free copy (there may be an additional shipping charge). A PDF copy will be available for free here at Paizo.com, with print-on-demand through Lulu at some point in the future.
I’m looking forward to everybody’s entries. Now get crackin’!

The idea here is that the Issue is Absalom centered, but not exclusive. There will be some "heavy" stuff about Absalom in this one -POSTER MAP INCLUDED- and of course the more Absalom related article the better.
All articles about Absalom should have a reference on where does it take place or is loctaed so that we can add a key on the map. This map won't be printed on poster-size 'cause it would be crazy expensive, but you will be able to download it and have it printed as big as you want.
A BIG recomendation is that if you have something non-Absalom- but generic in mind already, you could give it a twist so that is Absalom-related and make the WF3 shinnier with Absalom goodness. I'd greatly appreciate it and send some major artists towards your article... mwahahaha

One question: If I were to submit a short story based on a Pathfinder module, would I also need to submit accompanying artwork. Because while I think my story might stand at least a decent chance of being competitive, I'm realistic enough about my artistic ability to realize that submitting something I drew would cause the entire submission to be auto-rejected.

I expect Lilith and Butterfrog will take care of the art side of things. This isn't their first rodeo. :D

You can submit your art if you want, thou we do take care of art of every so if you don't send art, we assign somebody else to do it. The art has nothing to do with your article's acceptance, so don't worry about that. If you send it we do check if your art is appropiate for it ;) In general we accept almost all art since is a Fanzine and we do like to give opportunity for all kind of artists, pros and non-pros.

Oh well, best of luck to the rest of you.

E-mail sent.

I'm gonna assume Hugo knows I'm in. Even if he doesn't, I'm still in. I may have lost all of my spying tools on Crystal, but I got Hugo's house full of more bugs than a dead rat in a sloppy entomologist's lab.
Oh: Hugo, something you did last night got a big response from the fans, so be careful there. :P

That one, too. :D
You just gotta watch out with all those cameras I put in your house. That's all I'm saying.

Lilith, I just sent off a recipe. Let me know if you don't get it.
I'm also working on another piece of fiction and already sent Trevor my contribution for the ongoing Greenhorns saga.
Edit: I am curious how many people plan on trying out the recipes. I know I plan on giving them a go but then I like to cook. Any others planning on it or has anyone already tried some of them?

Ask a Succubus |

Dear Ask a Succubus,
Whilst on a night out with other marines from my ship, I sold my soul to a contract-devil for half a dozen enchanted throwing knives. I'm starting to wonder if that was actually a good idea?
Yours,
Soulless-in-Ostenso.
Dear Soulless-in-Ostenso,
That was an exceptionally bad idea. You swapped your soul for something mostly useful in situations where you are likely to die, in which circumstance you afford your devil the chance to collect early. I know a couple of demons who would have traded you something much more useful such as a tasteful mahogany dining suite and some lovely plush curtains.
However, if you give me the name and number of your contract-devil, I may be able to arrange a 'day release' clause whereby you can work for one of my colleagues during some of your afterlife in exchange for a highly decorative bronze orrery.

(I'm really Tae-Bin Gulliver, author in Wayfinder 1. I'm using my dad's account)
So I'm not allowed to do a journal entry based in the Land of the Linnorm Kings?
Because I submitted something in #1 based in the L of the LK, I did not have the time in #2 (school. too much homework) and I was excited to subm it (and hopefully finish) my adventure in #3.

Let me clarify, since this has come up a couple of times:
- Any article you send, regardless of theme/locale, I will put in my "review" pile.
- When the deadline is up, I'll look at all the articles.
- If I have to choose between an article that is well written or an article that fits the chosen theme, I'll choose "well written" over "chosen theme."
Please don't let the central theme stop you from sending in pieces - after all, many articles in Wayfinder #2 did not focus on Northern Avistan (the Gunslinger PrC, for instance).

Hugo has convinced me to maybe do some artwork for this one, so I'm tentatively in.
Also, as I mentioned on the Wayfinder #2 thread, I'd like to get into some of the editing aspect for Wayfinder #3. I've always been a stickler about spelling and grammar (at least, as far as print media go), and I could help combat some of the issues that were present in Wayfinder #2.

What about advertising for RPG publishers?
* Third party publishers wishing to advertise their Pathfinder Roleplaying Game-compatible projects in Wayfinder #3 are welcome to advertise as well. Space is available for 1/4, 1/2 and full page ads.
* Email me for questions about pricing. Email is in my profile - be sure to include "Wayfinder #3 Advertising" in your subject line.

Madness Follows |

Now I've been meaning to suggest this since thought of it 2-3 weeks ago, and I apologize for the time it has taken to do so. I do not feel I have the right to write up this suggestion. I'm also not sure I have the skill, as of yet, to do it justice.
I'm requesting...: Were-Cabbage! A fully statted monster, including template so a Player may end up playing as one.

I just finished a nice, 1500-word piece involving the Ethereal Plane and ghosts.
Then I glanced at the Bestiary and discovered that ghosts no longer have any connection to the Ethereal Plane.
Time for a total rewrite. :(
Or just substitute "ghost" for some new type of undead that are just like ghosts but are tied to the Ethereal Plane. "Toghs" for example.
