What the hold-up. Rumor has its the end of pathfinder? I hope this is not the case.

Normally it's shipping from over seas being held up in customs. I am guess the holidays has a part of it, also keep in mind they are still behind a bit from the office move.

Sometimes sadly it's unavoidable at times.

It's actually quite the opposite. Some products fell behind because of the additional work required to get nearly 1000 extra pages of material out last summer between the Core Rulebook and Bestiary, both of which were such big successes that Paizo's now hired an additional assistant editor (Rob McCreary) and a new copy editor in order to get the rest of their product lines back on track.

Just out of curiosity, where are these completely false rumors being propagated? Do you have a link?

The end?

Who the heck started that silly rumor?

It was just a couple of local game stores that kept on getting later and later due dates. It had been suggested a number of companies got flaky just before death.

I don't want to start any rumors.

Luckily for you and for all of us, these store owners are inferring quite the wrong thing. We've seen product dates change around here before, but I don't think Paizo is at all flaky--just putting out ever more product.

Thank you Erik. And I will keep giving lots of money to do my little part and make sure it stays that way.

I suspect they're crazy busy right now with all the extra stuff that they've been working on this year with the core PF RPG stuff. I've got stuff that's being edited now that I turned in a while back, so there's certainly a bit of a bottleneck with all the stuff coming down the pipeline.

But it all promises to be awesome stuff, and the quality level has been routinely top notch. So even with the added product, nothing is suffering as a result. :D

Contributor

Fortunately, we ARE catching up... each month's product is (on average) 1 week less late than the previous month's, and with the addition of editor Judy we should be able to maintain that rate and be on schedule again in a couple of months.

Who is this editor Judy? Was she introduced somewhere?

<smacks fist on table> We demand an explanation! Where are the proper introductions? These minutaes are important. ;)

Are you saying that Judy is small potatoes, Urizen? Because I for one trust Paizo to hire someone awesome for this position. I say she deserves your respect, maybe even your admiration, which are you unable to give in your unintroduced state. Are things such as these are minutia? X@

Judy is the person we hired as our contract editor. She will be around for three months or so to help us get caught up and then we will see if we want to a) extend the contract or b) hire her full time. I'm sure she will get tagged to introduce herself in a blog someday soon.

Don't worry, the month isn't over yet. I'm sure another one can be stitched together by the end of next week.

I'm just glad I was able to contain my rage...or at least channel it elsewhere. I had that whole Hank Hill, blood vessel, gawdang thing going on with my face. Whew, boy...

So, Judy's a contract editor. Is that anything like a contract hitman?

I'd just assumed the sliding dates were the natural result of the sheer awesomeness we have seen out of Paizo lately. Pushing it any faster would only have ended in a "Here's JOHNNY" situation when Erik come smashing through the walls with an axe. :) Considering Paizo produces such quality material with a smaller staff than I'd take to supervise a school field trip, that's COMPLETELY understandable. Just keep up the great work and we'll all ooh and ahh as is appropriate when the product gets here. :)

Done it.

Bulmahn refused to hang on to the rope, Mona kept putting things in Chris Self's hair (it was hard to tell what), and someone had a tantrum (I won't say who, because I might want to submit for PFS again someday).

So I can say the the products will get here when they get here. That is a sad state of affairs. I do like the quality of products, perhaps fewer products would result in more products in peoples hand.

Just a thought

Adding a 570-page book and a 320-page book to our schedule last year with no additional staff has had an impact on our normal schedule. That's like six months' worth of books added to the schedule, it'll have an effect.

Plus you all moved the location of your office, so that also added a delay into the mix.

So the final answer is that more books were produced, even through the one's that were promised/projected were not? That is a strange way to run a company??

I think a stranger way to run a company would be not to release core rules to support the four product lines that already exist. All the announced products will be out soon enough, and eventually everything will be back on schedule now that the success of those two extra books have allowed the company to grow.

What "final answer" did you want? Did you want someone from Paizo to respond and say, "yes, we're closing shop and you're never going to get Book X that you preordered?"

It's actually common that companies have delays. Video games and computer games are routinely delayed, often months at a time, and multiple times. That industry seems to be doing quite well, with annual sales greater than the movie industry (which by the way sometimes delays movies - or even cancels them altogether.)

No I didn't want that answer, but it might be nice for a change to something like "We have chosen to produce this and the result will be these items will be delayed by x number of weeks or months.

The product schedule is a good way to stay apprised to estimated dates of release for Pathfinder, Planet Stories, and GameMastery products. This page is updated to reflect any changes as a product's ETA shifts through the development, production, and distribution stages. Very few products are ever promised for a specific date in the first place, though, so whether something is "late" or just taking longer to develop than originally anticipated is purely semantic.

More like:

The core rulebooks we used to use for our products (i.e., D&D 3.5) have been out of print for over a year, so it is vital for us to produce new core rulebooks (the Pathfinder RPG) so that our ability to get people into the game doesn't require them visiting ebay or used book stores. And given that we had momentum from our Beta playtest among the player base, it was in our best interest as a company to produce the Pathfinder RPG last year at Gen Con rather than waiting another year to do so at Gen Con 2010. In fact, waiting another year probably would have been a disaster for the company and hurt the RPG industry, especially given the poor state of the economy.
Instead, Paizo's had its best year ever, PFRPG feeback from distributors, retailers, and fans is incredibly positive, and while we are unhappy that our other product lines slipped a few weeks, we are confident that we can catch up, and that in the long run these choices make the company stronger and healthier, and provide the fans with more options.

And if you're disappointed in 1-2 month delays in scheduled products, you probably should never pre-order a video game. Or a flying car. ;)

Liberty's Edge

I'd be appeased with early access to the PDFs when my books are delayed ;)
