Think they learned a LITTLE TOO MUCH from WOTC??
The bodies are barely cool from 3rd edition (grumbles)

You sure there man? 3rd was over 7-8 years ago. While they're a couple years too early, its still a respectable time.

Amen to that...
The 3rd Revised printing was pretty embarrassing all in all, with what felt like almost the entire book of water being errata'd and entire chucks of paragraph missing from the print - even though the game was pretty solid.
Having said that, I'm really looking forward to the 4th Edition. I think seperating it from the CCG meta-game is a step in the right direction. Most of the people I know, myself included, enjoy Rokugan for it's ancient Asian-mashup themes, and not so much for keeping up with an ongoing meta-story.
A 4E Rogukan focusing on the tool-kit idea really appeals.

Absolutely agree, the rules were way too bulky for me to have fun, and I always felt a little pressure to read up on the CCG game to keep 'canon', so the direction is right.. but I would hope this time it would last more than 5 years (or if you take it from the 'Revised' corebook as the correct interpetation)..more than 2 years....(as I wouldn't have bought all that stuff for 3rd Edition if I had known)

In case people lost track of it, Design Diaries 2 through 4 are up now:
L5R 4E Design Diaries
So far, I continue to like what I see.
Taking the best parts of the continuity, and mashing them up into an uber-version, is a pretty good idea, me thinks.
