I really like to read the chatter if anything. It gives me inspiration and renewed energy, and makes me want to go out and buy things.

We have some of those ducks which need to be counted and ordered. Stay tuned for some news in the not too distant future!

Are the ducks the prize for 2010's winner? Because, if so, I'd like to point out that 50 ducks is the minimum you should be offering.

I cannot wait for this to get going! It will be great to see how the new rules get showcased.

Wait a minute! How come the 2010 winner gets to score 50 ducks and the 2009 winner doesn't even rate an animal companion?! I must protest!

I'm hoping they let the Top 4 comment on items again for 2010. But, if so, I'd like to do it in-character as Gulga Cench. ;-D

I'll give you 50 ducks Neil, but they'll have to be 50 headless zombie ducks! They'll look so cute following you around with no way to bite.

Contributor, RPG Superstar 2009, RPG Superstar Judgernaut

Now that's some ugly ducklings, alright. On second thought, I'm glad that wasn't part of the 2009 prize package.

Hey Neil, I was wondering if you could shoot me an email so I have your email address? If not, it's no big deal. My email is on my profile page. Thank you for you time.

I'm so looking forward to this. I have to say, I'm hoping its not going to start with wondrous items this time, not the least reason of which is I have nothing in mind for such an entry this year. I'm currently on a monster kick; tons of new critters have been buzzing around in my head this fall.

I'm really looking forward to this year's contest. Last year, it was less easy to cheer for all of the wonderful contestants. This year, it should be easier.

Contributor, RPG Superstar 2009, RPG Superstar Judgernaut

What are you talking about? I cheered for you the whole way!

Until that last round...

Hmmm...

Yeah, I cheered for others too, but sometimes it wasn't easy.

Anyhow, this year I won't be wondering if I'm cheering for the guy that's gonna push me out for the next round, right?

Man, I really had a lot of fun.

Wondrous items have worked well as a preliminary challenge the last couple of years. Also, though the new game is a wildcard this year, there will definitely be a lot of entries; which means it has to be something quite short for the first round. There's no way the judges will pore over something as big as monsters in the first round. Considering the number of entries they will receive, even 400-500 words per entry would be an enormous undertaking.

I hope Clark Peterson is back as a judge. Heck, I'd like to see all the same judges back. Any word on the judges?

Are you suggesting that...

Spoiler:

...Clark Peterson is a complete quack?! o_O

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2009 Top 4

As I understand it, ducks came from dinosaurs; and dinosaurs came from dragons, and dragons came from Clark Peterson, so yes Clark is going to be judge this year. Thanks Lisa!

Marathon Voter Season 9

Really looking forwards to RPG Superstar 2010. I personally hope it will be wonderous items again.

I think they're replacing Clark Peterson with a duck. Or Paula Abdul. It's difficult to say.

Maybe quack is a reference to Eddie Izzard. Evil ducks...quack quack quack.

Now Eddie Izzard would be an interesting choice. :)

I think it means that Lisa has one duck in a row. I'd like to hear some additional quacks.

Quack twice for Sean K Reynolds.

EDIT: Is it a row if there is only one duck in it?

Tarren Dei wrote:

That depends. Is a row the same thing as a line? If so, a single point cannot define a line. It requires at least two end-points.

And thus ends today's geometry lesson. :-)

It just means that there are a few ducks to get organized before we can announce anything. The judges are lined up, but we are still working on some guest judges. Soon, my friends. Soon.

Sweet. Not that I submitted anything last year...or the year before...but hey, I still think it'd be awesome if you folks could come up with a new non-wondrous-item first round this year. I know the rationale behind it and all that, but still, a little change-up would rock. :)

Count_Rugen wrote:

Oh, believe me...they had plenty of change-ups last year. :-)

Just pure opinion/guesswork here, but I'd like to think the first round wondrous item is going to stay for two reasons:

1) It's one of the few quick and easy things to judge. You can't use villains or countries or lairs or even spells for the first round because there'll be thousands of entries and you need to be able to winnow that down to 32 quickly and easily.

2) It's somewhat of a tradition now. The wondrous item round was the only round that was the same in both previous years.

Liberty's Edge

Say "Superstar!" if you want to have the wondrous item back this year.
