After a super busy weekend, I was actually kind of looking forward to getting to the office this morning.
Then I remembered it’s Monday.
Of course, that does mean it’s Alphacore Day! Huzzah!
Well, yesterday was super busy. Today promises to be more of the same. Probably the rest of the week as well.
Huzzah! My wife did not smother me with a pillow!
I was afraid she would, once I told her how much I spent on that very limited, signed Kelley Jones art.
Happy Thursday?!?
Maybe. Still too early to tell.
F$&@ing bureaucracy.
My bosses passed on a crap job to me (because I have a PE license) to write a letter for a client covering exceptions for some TXDOT permits. It’s a bunch of legal crap (which I hate), probably better written by someone with a legal background.
And, of course, the idiots passing on all the “relevant” information to me got the wrong rule. So I had to go look the correct one up myself. And I couldn’t just get a copy sent to my work email, because work email doesn’t allow through unfamiliar emails (unless it’s an obvious scam). So I had to have the pdf sent to my personal email.
I’ll never forgive them for this.
The boy was invited to spend a night with her at his friend’s house this weekend. Considering the trouble he got into at school recently, I was tempted to say no. This friend, however, seems to be a good kid. So I don’t want to alienate any friends of his that might be more positive influences.
Speaking of this weekend, I’m tempted to limit my departures from the house and skip the comic book store. I’ve only got two books I’m collecting, and the weather is going to be unpleasant.
On the plus side, though, I’ll get to see Disney most likely have a not good weekend. And probably (hopefully) lose a lot of money (again).
Don’t forget…..consume next product.
As I suspected....sounds like a certain new film is going to be a money loss for Disney. Which makes me happy.
The wife made chicken parm for herself and the children (I can't eat something like that), and she actually expected the boy to try it. I nearly laughed.
Well, I’m officially less than I weighed when I graduated high school.
I’ve really got to find a new GI doctor. One that has can bring a list to and say “test me for this”.
Miserable rain and cold? Check!
Monday morning? Check!
My crappy health? Check!
So, clearly, the appropriate background picture for my computer today is the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut. And considering how unfriendly my health has been lately, I’ll leave it up all week.
We’ve got a new guy here at work. An electrical engineer. So they put him right next to me, on what’s becoming engineer’s row. When I told my wife, her exact words were “poor bastard”.
I realized this morning that I’ve been collecting comic books longer than new coworker has been alive.
Back in the office. New guy is already proving better than the dude he’s replacing.
Yesterday they had a Thanksgiving lunch with food from Rudy’s BBQ. With my dietary issues, I’m glad I was working from home and missed that temptation.
Nine years ago today I lost my father. Still sucks.
Well, that was a rather long and annoying work day. Didn’t finish up until around 8 pm last night.
I was finally able to get an appointment with a new GI doctor. It’s not until well into December, but at least I got it. Hopefully, he’ll be more competent than the last one.
Ouch! Poor Disney!!
Or…….
Bwahahahahahahahaha…..87%!
Still laughing at Disney’s unfortunate performance.
In other news….
I may finally go buy Hogwarts Legacy today.
Although, my drive in was pretty decent. Once I got near the interstate, this dude in front of me had a sticker on his back windshield that said “Long Live Mitch”.
Mitch had good instincts. So I pretty much followed his lead until I finally had to get off the interstate. Which wasn’t very far.
It’s quiet in the office this morning. Not too quiet. Never that. Although I think I’m no longer the only one here.
A relatively pleasant holiday. Mostly quiet, with some decent food and adult conversation.
And I started playing The Video Game That Must Not Be Named. You know, the one that earned over $1 Billion, got heaps of praise (from those who actually played it), and even earned a Guinness World Record.
And today I’ll probably actually leave the house on Black Friday to go to the comic book store.
I’m really enjoying that Video Game Which Must Not Be Named. Cool graphics. A fun little story. Plenty of exploration. Some cool puzzles to solve.
Some of the control aspects frustrate me. Mostly because my reaction times and hand coordination have suffered with age. And there were a couple of puzzling situations in my initial exploration of the Room of Requirement I eventually just abandoned.
For the most part, however, I’m enjoying it.
And I’m still impressed with how much money was made off this game.
Got the Christmas decorations down from the attic yesterday. Later today the boy and I will put up the outside decorations. Shouldn’t take too long. I don’t put up a lot outside. And I no longer put lights in the roof, which makes things considerably less stressful.
I’m trying to get the wife to agree to start putting up the inside decorations. That could interfere with her nap time, however. So I doubt she’ll actually do anything.
And, in a bit of sad news, I think my favorite jacket might have finally pooped the bed. It hasn’t been as good at keeping me warm for a while now. Which was never too big a deal, since I live in glorious warmth of Texas. Now, however, the zipper is busted.
I’ve gotten over 14 years of use out it, though. Pretty good for something I bought off a discount rack in some random North Carolina Target store.
The boy and I put the outside Christmas decorations up yesterday. In years past, I had a family of four deer decorations: Mom, Dad, Son & Daughter. Fitting.
Anyway, last year we lost the dad. This year, we lost the mom. I’m probably could have replaced them. Didn’t feel like it.
After the outside decorations were up, we came inside and everybody helped decorate the “tree”. I also put out the hand full of inside decorations I have.
So now all that’s done.
Monday. Ugh!
Back in the office, but I’d much rather be home playing the Video Game Which Must Not Be Named!
At least my bosses are apparently going to be out of office.
A busy morning, but not an unpleasant one. Except for the temperature.
Another busy morning, but at least it’s work from home Wednesday. Already answered an email for the bosses, then finished up and sent in my redlines on some drawings.
Now I’m waiting on the designer to finish another set of drawings so I can set up a Teams meeting to discuss them. All so we can get that set out today.
On top of that, I stayed up way too late last night. Until 11 pm, which has become late for me.
It’s all the fault of The Video Game Which Must Not Be Named.
Because some folk are way less tolerant than they like to tell themselves.
Me? I can tolerate a lot. As long as it doesn’t waste my time or money.
Hell, with my health issues of the past year, I’ve been amazed what I can learn to tolerate.
Cool thing - my nephew’s school ROTC program was getting rid of some old Air Force ROTC wilderness survival guides. My brother grabbed a bunch for his scouts. I grabbed one for myself, and another to send to my father-in-law (he was in the Air Force) for Christmas.
Aaarrrrggghhh!!!!!
I write so few checks anymore that I ran out. And I need one by next Monday. In order to do that with my own account, I’d have to pay an extra $50-75 delivery.
Luckily, I do have checks for a joint account the wife and I have. So that should work.
The company put out a Holiday calendar.
Tomorrow is “wear favorite Christmas socks”. Sorry, don’t own any.
Next Friday is Christmas movie trivia (not legit if it doesn’t include Die Hard), and wear favorite Christmas hat (or hair accessory). Sorry, don’t own any. Also, way to make people who don’t have hair feel bad.
Friday the 15th will be Ugly Sweater day. Sorry, don’t own any.
One thing I really like about the company I work for - they’re really cool about letting us work from home. We have one work from home day every week (my group’s is Wednesday). Today I’m also working from home, because I have a doctor appointment at 10 am, and it’s more efficient to be home.
Which is good, since I slept poorly last night. So I’ll feel like crap most of the day.
Slept poorly Thursday night. Stayed up way too late (for me) last night. So today I feel blah.
