Definitely when Fish was with them. I got the two CDs with the new guy afterwards, and disliked the direction they'd gone so lost interest in them.
They were so much better, lyrically and musically, with Fish! Mind you, that last album they did with him (Clutching at Straws?) wasn't so great, either.

I love both eras. The Fish era was great, but I love that they were able to move on and that they continue to evolve from album to album. If you don't know it yet, listen to the 2004 album "Marbles" (2 CD version!), or the new acoustic album "Less Is More".
I visited the 2009 convention weekend in the Netherlands and it was simply awesome - three great concerts in as many days, an experience not to be missed.

A lucky day for Fish fans... Offering for free (or for the cost of shipping) a Marillion "bootleg" cassette tape. Dates are 8/29/82 Reading Rock, Roskilde 1983, and Old Grey Whistle Test 5/20/83.
Any takers? Some post Fish cassettes as well... I have several other cassettes I will throw in if you are interested... More Marillion and I am not sure what all else... Maybe a dozen or so in total, but the one of note is the live gem.

Just saw this thread while rooting through the boards. Late to the game, as usual.

I had a few bootlegs, including one from about the time right before Misplaced Childhood came out, that has a version of Kayleigh with entirely different lyrics. It's probably on the 82 concert you have. I lost my tapes, though. I think mine was at the Hammersmith Odeon.
I loved Marillion back in the day. Never got to see them live, though. First heard of them with Misplaced Childhood, and went and got everything I could find of theirs. Clutching at Straws, which came out a year or two after I had totally devoured everything else they did, just blew my mind.
I have to say the Fish years were the best. I find the Hogarth songs a little boring. I got "Brave" and listened to it quite a few times figuring I'd try to get into the new incarnation of the band, but I still, for the life of me, couldn't recite or even identify one single melody from that album. Totally forgettable.
