My FLGS and I are brainstorming using the Pathfinder RPG for World of Warcraft RPG. We originally intended to use DnD, but PRPG is far more compatible with 3.x-based system originally released by Sword & Sorcery. As we work out the logistics, I wonder about my own upcoming campaign. My last 3.x campaign was set in Eberron, which I still love. But I like Pathfinder's Golarion setting as well. And Iron Kingdoms has its hooks on me.
So, as I debate about my future PRPG setting, what will you be using for your campaign? Your current world? Golarion? Or something else?

Grimcleaver |

Golarion. Man it is going to be, like forever before that setting gets old.
That said, I also plan fully on taking advantage of the Pathfinder Compatibility Agreement, not only by buying up new Pathfinder settings as they come out--but also tossing some ideas of my own out there in the form of 16 page mini-settings reminicent of what Polyhedron used to do with their games, like Iron Lords of Jupiter and the like.
Not sure how I'm going to do them yet--but I really like the idea AEG used in making their little pamphlet based adventures for just a few bucks a pop. It was the sort of thing that was just irresistable, because it was just such a good price. I'd love something like that, where it's a pittance to buy but will give you everything you need to get you started on a whole new campaign setting.

I would pick Warcraft over Golarion every day.
And I agree, Pathfinder should work very well with Warcraft.
How is the Warcraft setting anyway? I have been a huge fan of Warcraft in the games (1,2, and 3) but never wanted to play WoW (which sucks a little because I'm not a fan of MMO's but I have to miss out on Warcraft and it's lore in the game )

My choice will ALWAYS be Forgotten Realms, with a healthy amount of splat thrown in from sword and sorcery and other settings.
I LOVE PF rpg, if by any chance any of the powers that be from PAIZO actually read my post then please accept my heartfelt praise for your creativity and your hard work as well as dedication to the Dungeons and Dragons Game.
I do a early realms campaign where the party started out as survivors from the fall of nethril. They were part of the people that helped to form what is now Halruua. The challenges of creating a new civilization while stopping raids from yuan-ti and other barbarian areas as well as pirates and dinosaurs.
Plus they could have the joys and headaches of being a true noble without worrying about changing the setting. The had the leadership feat, the Landlord feat(stronghold builders guide/3rd edition) and became barons in their own right.
I used the PF RPG races and characters from the beta and I think I'll stick with it. I plan on using the goloran setting ideas and making them fit in my realms so please keep the monsters coming but don’t overlook the classics either.

I'm currently using Forgotten Realms for the BETA. I'm looking at the Glorian setting though once PF is released in about a month. I'll probably keep playing the Beta till I'm finished my current story line in the game. Then we will start fresh and I'd like new world that the players don't know everything about since we've played FR for almost 20 years now. Same thing with Grey Hawk too.

I am running my own homebrew setting for more than 25 years and i intend to keep it like that.
I wouldn't want the myriads of NPCs of my world to haunt me in my sleep if i left them in a folder ;)
But it doesn't mean i am not interested in the Golarion setting.
First, as a player, i would be glad to play there if a DM was proposing something.
And as a DM, as many others, i don't deny getting my inspiration from outer sources. When something is good why not using it ? So i might pick a few things from here and there, as long it fits my own campaign.

My groups will likely use their own homegrown setting, as we always have. Kinda similar to the generic Greyhawk presented in the core 3.5. I'd love if there were a PF Greyhawk, but have never been a fan of either FR or Craperron.
Dragonlance, WoW, and Ravenloft would also be awesome converted settings.

KaeYoss |

Golarion. Pretty much exclusively. I might use Midnight somewhere in time, and if someone creates a great new campaign setting (preferrably no Vanilla Fantasy, because I have plenty of that), but beyond that, mostly Golarion. One of the big reasons (beyond "it kicks ass") is the Adventure Paths, of course.

I know my GM who is running Rise of the Runelords will be switching to PF RPG (currently using Beta now) so that is Golarion.
Another GM has stated he is likely to move to Pathfinder RPG for his Forgotten Realms game.
If I get PF RPG and get comfortable enough with it to GM I may run PFS scenarios, so again Golarion.
When (and possibly if) I get to run Eberron I will stick with 3.5 for it, as that is what it is written for, Ditto for my Freeport game.

Right now my games go between FR and Greyhawk (through magic portals) but after I buy the PFRPG hardcover and have a few extra bucks, I may open a few portals to Golarian.

homebrew 4eva!
We've been playing the PFRPG, but haven't used any setting material not in that book. I've bought the Absalom book and will read it with interest...
But Golarion seems a little like Forgotten Realms + Eberron. Perhaps it's the art (which is cool!), but a super high-fantasy setting doesn't appeal to me.
None in my group have ever been big users of published settings, except to steal good ideas as needed. Maps should have lots of blank spots.

hogarth |

I'll probably use whichever setting is implicit in the adventure. If there isn't a strong setting, I'll probably change it to Golarion or Greyhawk as appropriate. Note that my version of Golarion is a bit different from what's mentioned in the campaign setting (a bit more 14th century and a bit less 18th century, and high level characters/monsters are very rare).

Heaven's Agent |

I'll be using Pathfinder Chronicles. I was debating launching a home brew setting, but there's more than enough room in Golarion for me to build my adventures.
Forgotten Realms will always be a favorite, but I don't like what's been done to the Realms post 4E; I consider 4E FR an entirely different setting. In my mind the spellplague was the setting's Armageddon, and as much as I enjoyed it in the past I'd rather play my games in a new and growing setting rather than one that's essentially stagnant.

I think that would be a lot of fun.
For my own part I'll be running it in Ptolus. Both PRPG and Ptolus hug the core D&D experience so closely that so far I'm encountering few obstacles.

Most of my PFRPG will be Pathfinder Society, and therefore in Golarion. I'm also hoping to find some way to run Council of Thieves, and I'll keep that in Golarion as well. On the other hand, Eberron was the D&D setting that convinced me to start buying 3.5 books; if I want (and can find the time) to run something of my own, I would likely put it in Eberron.

I'm using Golarion for the game I'm running for my kids and their neighborhood friends.
So far we're partway through D0 and they love it.
Golarion is great because it stays true to the classic feel of Tolkein and Gygax, while providing creative variations on the basic cultures/kingdoms.
Oh and it's not nearly as "angst-ey" as the FR.

If I ever get around to GMing, I have a homebrew setting that I am quite proud of, based very loosely upon the ancient world. It has less of a medieval feeling to it, which I like a lot. It's mostly in my head, but I have a large map that I'm working on and I've got the cosmology all worked out. It even matches up with Golarion's multiverse, if I ever decide to make it available to others. But if I ever return to a published campaign setting, it will probably be Golarion or pre-4e Realms. I got started in the Realms with Baldur's Gate, which then segwayed into the 3e Campaign Setting, which is one of my most cherished possessions. I may dip my feet into Dark Sun or Planescape, though, as I really like the 2e settings. I kind of want to redo Maztica thefishcometh style, but that is way, way on the backburner in the idea orgy that is my brain.

I loved Eberron, I actually got into Eberron while waiting for DDO...
Then DDO didn't live up to Eberron...but we'll see what it's become when it goes Freescription next issue, since I dropped DDO about a year ago now.
I love Golarion, and if someone made a NWN Golarion mod, I would be sorely tempted to finally buy NWN...but with everything going on in my life right now, and ramping up to do CAD outta my house as a second job...I wouldn't have time for it...
Since I'm also working on my art and my R. Scott Tilton Studios Pathfinder Compatible publications...it's a wonder I sleep at all...
(especially since I got Bloodbowl 2 weeks ago...heh..that's been taking up my City of X time.)
I must say though, my rules for my publications are coming around nicely.

Goblin Witchlord |

The favorable reviews do sway my thinking.
It does look like it'd be easy to retcon anything I might want to play into Golarion.

For my PFRPG will be set in Dream Valley, a land inhabited by witches, goblins and other magical creatures.
Some famous places in this setting are:
Volcano of Gloom ally
Paradise Estate
The ancient city of Tambelon
Some stories I want to run are.
The Witches from the Volcano of Gloom ally with an army of giant bees to get their revenge on the PCs. The bees steal the precious Sun Stone - if the PCs can't get it back, their home will be destroyed.
A creature who lived in Dream Valley before the Paradise Estate was built returns to destroy the PCs home.
A Demon, kidnaps the Princess and steals the magic wands. As the demon grows in power, magic is thrown into chaos - can he be stopped before everything is destroyed?
I think it will be great fun!

Homebrew, all the way. There is no published setting out there that has the ideas I want in it. Believe me, I've looked.
Eberron wasn't enough like the world of movies derived from Pulp stories.
I didn't understand the point of Greyhawk.
FR was okay, the NPCs didn't bother me, but there didn't feel like anywhere to go.
Golarion's got a similar problem to FR.
And they all suffer from one very big problem: I don't want maps. I'd rather make it all up however it's convenient.

After my current party retires (Greyhawk), I will roll up a new group w/ the PFRPG rules but probably still play in GH for a while. Unless I can convincingly transport the Dungeon AP's over to Golarion. We'll see. But there will definitely come a time when I embrace Golarion whole hog (I'm already in love with it!) as my actual campaign setting of choice.

Most likely Golarion or the Scarred Lands, with a dash of Green Ronin's Freeport, inserted into whichever one we use. (Port Peril will be the new site of Freeport, in my Golarion, if the players vote on that option. We've been playing in either the Scarred Lands or Freeport-in-Greyhawk, but after the players vote on new setting (or staying in old setting), I'll happily transfer it to Golarion.)
While I have much love for Greyhawk, the Realms and Eberron, for different reasons, they don't appeal to me as much as my new favorites.
Still, if the players want to do some Greyhawk (which one player particularly loves, and was the reason why our Freeport game was set on Oerth, with Freeport replacing Narisban, in the Olman Islands), or whatever, we'll go with that. I'm at their mercy.
But I'm gonna pitch Golarion pretty aggressively. :)

I will continue to use Golorian for the offical stuff, since I'm the drafted coordinator for the local Pathfinder Society at our FLGS. But the old FR is my first home...
...that said, I have plans for something I've been working on for about three years for my home campaign. I call it "Dark Realms!" Think of it as the Mirror, mirror version of the Realms. Anyone interested, I can send a brief synopsis to...

I would imagine lack of sales. Where I live, I never could find the books anywhere after like a month of them comming out.
They had a copy in my local Borders, but I only ever flipped through it. My thought at the time was, Its about the same cost and much less work to just get Warcrack than it is to try and design a campaign set in the same universe.
Therefore, I never picked it up again. Eh, to each their own I geuss.

Well, I'm currently running Ravenloft using Pathfinder Beta. So I suppose that my first Pathfinder RPG setting will technically be Ravenloft, since we'll be switching over after GenCon. After that, though... I really would love to run me some Golarion, or maybe the faerie tale action-adventure campaign setting I'm currently working on.
