I know that there is "a" Dragonlance movie out there but I was wondering if there was any word of a real attempt? With the current state of CGI it I believe be possible to do something well. of course I would want the Elmore take on the heroes in this case :) seriously thinking of the awful movies out there that are still better than the almost embrassing current DL movie I'm at a lost how it was allowed to be released. Not saying that bad movies shouldn't be released otherwise we wouldn't have had Snakes on a Plane for example - and I haven't laughed so much for so long until I saw that movie.
So DL, should it be done again? If so then live action or cgi?

I don't mind as long as;
a) Don't mix two different forms of animation in the same movie, the Lord of the Rings did pull off live with animation but that was actually good, the dragonlance animated movie not so much,
b) Its actually a serious effort the last one looked like they used several different efforts using differing mediums and mixed them up shame really the voice work was actually not bad,
c) Heard of the Gamers movies the second one was entitled Dorkness Rising? Now that was very good, I get the feeling they need that kind of enthusiasm if they want this to work after the Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings were made in one go and released in three parts now that is dedication for you!
There's even talk of the Hobbit being done too, eventually well here's hoping!

Comment 1. Different kinds of animation can be mixed. It's all a matter of the amount of money one is willing to put into it for the technology to do so. This is one of the main differences between the LotR movies and what I've seen and heard about the DL movie; several dozen million dollars.
Comment 2. Not only is The Hobbit slated for release starting in 2011, it is supposedly going to be in two movies. As with the original LotR, the second one will come out the following December, in 2012. My understanding is that they are also going to incorporate a lot of the background between The Hobbit and LotR. You know, the things about the Necromancer and tracking Gollum all over Middle Earth, which Gandalf talks a lot about in the beginning of Fellowship (the book), but got left out of the movie. I'm looking forward to it. Oh, and in case you haven't heard, all the original cast are being used again!
Comment 3. I do believe this thread wins whatever award there is for being the first conversation in history to mix The Hobbit and Fight Club. Congratulations. :)

The animated LotR movie was $4 million dollars. So not several dozen million dollars.

I thought we were talking about Peter Jackson's film. Does the older version mix live action and/or multiple animation styles? It's been so long since I've seen it, I can't really remember. If so, then woops! Mea culpa.

I do not know ANYTHING about DL but I liked the cartoon. I thought it was funny and from what little I do know about the main/most important character rastelin(forgive the misspelling)it was very accurate as to the book.
Again this is from a non-rabid DL fan. I haven’t ever read any of the books or played in the world but from what I understand about the setting "all kender must die" seems to be a battle cry amongst several races. Are the kender like drow, evil and hated by all the "good" races?
Still I would like to see a live action dragon lance movie simply to support the fantasy genre. MY ultimate movie dream would be a forgotten realms movie using the novels by douglas niles "darkwalker" series, it'll never happen thats why its a dream. I would support any fantasy movie but a D&D movie from a real setting would be fantastic.

No. Kender are the halflings in the DnD world. In every way, shape and form. They weren't hated as so much as they were distrusted. When you see a halfling you think 'thief'. Same with Kender.

Nope kender are essentially kleptomaniac halflings the ones exhibited in the Races of the Wild, halflings are usually anything but being more conscious of their well being and by that being safe, having a good home and regular meals I won't guess in what order, kender ala dragonlance were immune to fear and subsequently didn't have the common sense to understand why they shouldn't do some things they later removed that restriction.
I would be more worried with the halflings of eberron, after all a race of essentially halfling barbarians riding velociraptors is a mite more threatening than some halfling skilled in taunting adversaries and prone to stealing whatever catches their eye...
