Avandra's glory allows Lam to strike true. The phane is now visibly weakening, although it remains as dangerous as ever.
I'm aware that none of the three stunned pcs can do much, unless Genryu can make his save at the start of his round (warden feature), so go ahead and post in any order. I'll stitch it together as needed.
Lurean - stunned (se) - Aftereffect dazed and weakened (se both); +6 to attack rolls to end Lam's next turn
Genryu - gain 19hp and resist 10 all damage to end next turn; weakened (se); stunned (se) - Aftereffect dazed and weakened (se both); +6 to attack rolls to end Lam's next turn
Theren - stunned (se) - Aftereffect dazed and weakened (se both); +6 to attack rolls to end Lam's next turn
Tavar - grants CA to end his next turn; -5 to attacks
Lavender
Phane - bloodied; marked by Genryu; under Theren's Oath of Emnity; weakened to end Lurean's next turn; takes 6 cold damage on attacks made while weakened; marked by Lam to end his next turn

Genryu - you are stunned. Unless you make the save, you can't do anything at all. As a warden, you can save twice per round, at the start and end of your turn. Please make the save!

Rev DM |

Lurean - stunned (se) - Aftereffect dazed and weakened (se both); +6 to attack rolls to end Lam's next turn

Rev DM |

Lurean just manages to cast aside the stunning impact of the phane's attack, as do Genryu and Theren.
Save v stun (1d20=11)
Tavar's prayers just fail to affect the phane's willpower and the field is free for Lavender to act.

Lavender Glow |

Lavender takes up a better position and strikes the phane with a devastating string of force missiles.
Move in general direction of ST, then MM vs Ref, with memory (1d20+23=42, 1d6=1, 4d4+12=19) CRIT (on a 19 for me), Crit damage vs P (28+5d6=47)

Rev DM |

Lav - is that damage ignoring insubstantial?
The phane reels from Lavender's attack and is clearly weakening as it sends further devastating power into the faces of its surrounding attackers.
Wizening Tempest close burst 1 (Fort): On hit target is stunned (se); aftereffect dazed and weakened (se both) v Genryu, Lam, Theren and Lurean (1d20+29=33, 1d20+29=30, 1d20+29=30, 1d20+29=37).
Misses all but Lurean.
Wizening Tempest damage v Lurean (2d6+10=18). Lurean takes 18hp damage and is stunned (se). Aftereffect: dazed and weakened (se both)
Calling on all its resources, it shifts away and sends the weight of ages hurtling towards Lavender.
Uses AP to dole out Wizening Ray on Lav.
Wizening Ray (Fort). On hit target is dazed and weakened (se). Aftereffect: weakened (se). (1d20+29=48, 2d6+9=21). 21hp damage to Lav who is dazed and weakened (se). Aftereffect: weakened (se)
Lam
Lurean - stunned (again) (se); Aftereffect : dazed and weakened (se both); +6 to attack rolls to end Lam's next turn
Genryu - dazed and weakened (se both); +6 to attack rolls to end Lam's next turn
Tavar
Lavender - dazed and weakened (se) - Aftereffect: weakened (se)
Phane - bloodied; marked by Genryu; under Theren's Oath of Emnity; marked by Lam to end his next turn

Lav - is that damage ignoring insubstantial?
Ah, he's insubstantial? In that case, I do another Extra force damage (1d10=9) ;)

Lam Thovir |

Lam Shifts forward towards his enemy and swings his fullblade hard Virtuous Strike (1d20+29=34), perhaps too hard. Shift to F14
Btw sorry I didnt update last night at the same time as gobi, my internet freaked right after I posted

Rev DM |

Lam's attack is brave, but fruitless. The phane is just too quick.
Lurean - stunned (again) (se); Aftereffect : dazed and weakened (se both)
Genryu - dazed and weakened (se both)
Theren - dazed and weakend (se both)
Tavar
Lavender - dazed and weakened (se) - Aftereffect: weakened (se)
Phane - bloodied; marked by Genryu; under Theren's Oath of Emnity; marked by Lam to end his next turn
Lam

Li'remean Lurean |

Lurean, awash in the sea of time, cannot shake it from his thoughs.
Save: 1d20=8
fyi i'm bloodied as well.

Father Theren |

The Phane moved away from me willingly, right? If not subtract 12 damage.
Theren disappears in a flash of light only to reappear next to the phane and slash into it.
Strike From Empty Air, teleport to F13 and attack. 1d20+28=43, 4d12+24=43, halved to 21, or 31 (halved to 15) if it was forced to move. Of course, still dazed and weakened. What did you expect?

Rev DM |

Theren's attack is too much even for the seemingly unkillable phane. The fullblade stikes true and the creature writhes frantically in and out of time in an attempt to escape. Abruptly, it accepts the inevitable and falls to the avenger's blade with one last call of warning ....
"Morthalat!"
Out of combat. Each take 15,334XP
Technically I should make you all roll out your saves and whatnot, but since none of you are taking any ongoing damage I'm not going to do that. Nobody is stunned, dazed or weakened any more.
Spoilered for space - nothing especially secretive
I'm about to start tinkering severely with the encounters guys, just so you know. A lot of these monsters have ludicrous amounts of hp, stupid defenses and don't do much damage. I'd like to reduce the hp and maybe some of the defenses and compensate by upping their damage. It's my gut feeling that this will make the fights swing along a bit faster.
In the last fight, I halved the phane's hp. That had 478 as writ and was insubstantial. Combined with the stun/daze/weaken powers, you could all have been here until Christmas and we keeled over with boredom. Any thoughts and desires on that score (or any other), go ahead and tell me. We're all learning here.

Li'remean Lurean |

If I were to use my two uses of inspiring word, then I wouldn't be able to use them in the next encouter right? Or could I use them prior to the short rest so that I could regain the ability before the next encounter? If I can regain them, then I'll spend them on someone else. 5d6 extra hp per use.
I use two surges on myself.
I would be in favor of speeding up the combat. We could try it for an encounter and if it turns into TPK, then we could try something else.

Saint Tavar |

Tavar performs the Fantastic Recuperation ritual.
Whenever you or an ally within 10 squares of you uses a healing power during a short rest, that power restores the maximum number of hit points possible.
Tavar is only down 18hp so will not spend HS.
Not much help unless you have a variable when you use a healing surge.

Rev DM |

Snow crunches beneath your feet as you make your way through the crumbled walls of the monastery. Your objective is clear enough. An eighty foot pit has been dug out from the original structure, exposing a seal marked with eldritch runes.
Leading down, a broad flight of stairs has been constructed and from below you hear the hum and whine of some kind of engine, insterpersed with the noise of feedback and some swearing.
Far below, the gaunt figure of a scythe-wielding sorrowsworn deathlord fiddles with a complex machine, directing its power at four pylons spaced evenly around the seal.
"Cursed gnome technology ... even if it had a manual, it would probably be in Giant ..."
At your approach, two flocks of watchful ravens rise into the air and the heads of the undead guardian thralls in the sorrowsworn's service turn to regard you.
Morthalat waves an irriatable hand at his minions. "Hold them off blast you, I'm nearly there."
Note that the steps down drop one square per square (if that makes sense). Raven swarms are presently 12 squares up in the air.

Just a gentle reminder of what you're doing here, since it's easy to lose track in a pbp.
As you prepare yourselves for battle, Sir Keegan's warning comes back to you.
"My order hid the Sun's Sliver, binding it under a powerful seal hidden in St Alabat's monastery that sits high in the Dawnforge mountains. Without it, you have no hope of finishing Koliada.
Nor are the agents of Orcus the only peril. A mighty invoker bound an angel of prophecy in with the artifact. He must be defeated before you can gain it."
Init bonus noted, Lurean. It doesn't make any difference to Lavender unfortunately, but it moves Theren up a couple of slots, which he'll like.

I'll start rolling monsters very shortly.
Xabulba- spoilered for space:
direct copy of the answer I gave French Wolf a while back.
For battle maps, I use Fractal Mapper, which I got given as an early birthday present last year. I'm notorious for being bad with technology, so I had to find something robust and quick. This was it. It's available from DriveThru RPG and I'm certain can be used more creatively than I do.
Campaign Cartographer is also apparently wonderful, but after fiddling around with it for a couple of days came to the conclusion that home brain surgery was probably easier. And it was doing horrible things to my blood pressure. Not good.
The other thing I've done in the past (in my pre-Fractal Mapper days) was to draw a map, scan it into my pc as a jpg and go from there ... which leads me to Photobucket and the accompanying joys.
I do the following, which is quick and dirty. Load a blank version of whatever the map is up to your account (i.e. one with terrain features and whatnot, but nothing moveable, like monsters or pcs). Keep that one. My maps look trashed very fast, so keeping a clean copy is important.
Open up that clean map and click on "edit".
Go to the "decorate" button.
Pick "Text". Type in whatever abbreviation you've chosen for your pcs - e.g. "Ari" for "Arianwyn"; "M1" for "Spellplagued Foulspawn Manger 1"
Note - I change the text type from the default (Cretino) to Futura as it's easier to read. I also use different background colours for monsters (usually screaming pink), yellow for allies, white or blue for the pcs.
Add everyone you need to add.
Save as a copy. You now have two versions. The one with the pcs and whatnot on it, and the clean one in case things go wrong.
Once the thing has saved, copy and past the link.
When the monsters, pcs and whatever move around, just go back into your edited version and re-edit it. I redraw the text boxes in the new location and cover the old ones with text boxes coloured to match the background so they effectively disappear. Save as original this time (so you still only have two copies, but this one has the new moves). Rinse and repeat.
This all sounds a lot more complex and sophisticated than it is, but I hope it helps a bit.
Email me at revrosey at googlemail dot com if you need more.

Rev DM |

Cawing ominously, the raven swarms swoop among the companions, launching the first assault. Genryu and Lurean bear the brunt, but the jabbing beaks and scraping claws offer a threat to nearly everyone.
Note. S1 and S2 are swarms. They get a free attack against any character starting their turn within the swarm aura 1. Also note that swarms take half damage from ranged and melee attacks but are vulnerable to close and area attacks. As epic characters, you'd definitely know this.
Swarm of Talons (Ref) v Genryu (1d20+30=37, 3d8+4=16, 1d8=1). 17hp damage to Genryu. 16 untyped, 1 necrotic.
Swarm of Talons (Ref) v Lurean (1d20+30=35, 3d8+4=21, 1d8=6). 27hp damage to Lurean. 21 untyped, 6 necrotic.
About to move, Theren gets a face full of feather, beak and claw.
Swarm of Talons (Ref) v Theren (1d20+30=46, 3d8+4=21, 1d8=1). Start of turn attack v Theren from S1. 22hp damage to Theren. 21 untyped, 1 necrotic.
Morthalat barely glances up at your approach.
"Just go. Don't bother me now. You have no idea how long it's taken me to get this temperamental brute working."
The tone is almost paternal as he twiddles once more with the mysterious engine, pushing his spectacles incongruously up his nose.
As the ravens swoop down, he nods approvingly. "Kill them or drive them off. Meddlers."
Morthalat uses all his actions to operate the Engine.
Round 1
Theren - taken start of turn attack from S1

Father Theren |

Theren seems to fade slightly as he throws himself off of the stairs and dashes towards Morganthalat.
(Note: IC is down and DMTools isn't loading, so no records of these rolls.) Activating Ghostly Vengeance (Phasing and take half damage from OAs), jumping off the stairs, ending my movement at E7 (Acrobatics check to reduce falling damage: 25), then charging M. (Attack roll: 39, 16 damage if it hit, Stealth to get CA: 29. I officially hate the Wizards online dice roller.) EDIT: Taking OAs from T2, T7, M and possibly S1

Rev DM |

Everything is home rolled.
Plummeting from the stairs, Theren sprints past the ravens and thralls to finish next to Morthalat who brushes off the attack and barely deigns to notice his arrival.
"I told you not to interrupt me," he snaps, glaring through his glasses at the elf.
OAs from S1, T2 and T7
S1 (ref) 1d20+30 = 34. Hits. 3d8+4 damage and 1d8 necrotic = 13, 2: halved = 7hp damage to Theren. 6 untyped, 1 necrotic
T2 (AC) Double scimitar strike 1d20+25 = 28 (miss) and 1d20+25 = 36 (miss)
T7 (AC) Double scimitar strike 1d20+25 = 29 (miss) and 1d20+25 = 41 (miss)
Most of the thralls wait patiently for their foes to descend, but three of the more optimistic move to surround Theren and hack happily at his virtually impervious armour.
Oh yummy. Cascade of Steel (4 scimitar attacks each, all with CA).
T1 (AC) 1d20+27 = 35 (miss); 1d20+27 = 44 (hits); 1d20+27 = 30 (miss); 1d20+27 = 44 (hits). 10 damage from T1
T5 (AC) 1d20+27 = 37 (miss); 1d20+27 = 29 (miss); 1d20+27 = 45 (hit); 1d20+27 = 28 (miss). 5 damage from T5
T7 (AC) 1d20+27 = 29 (miss); 1d20+27 = 45 (hits); 1d20+27 = 42 (hits); 1d20+27 = 37 (miss). 10 hp damage from T7.
Total damage Thralls to Theren = 25 + the addional 7 from the swarm OA = 31hp untyped damage and 1 necrotic.
As Lurean prepares to attack, the raven swarms flap dangerously around him.
Aura attack S1 (Ref). 1d20+30 = 40. 3d8+4 + 1d8 = 17 untyped damage and 7 necrotic damage to Lurean
Aura attack S2 (Ref). 1d20+30=47. 3d8+4 +1d8 = 7 untyped damage and 4 necrotic to Lurean. Total for both attacks 34 (23 untyped and 11 necrotic)
Times like this I really miss IC, hateful though it is.
Round 1
Lurean - has taken attacks from S1 and S2 at the start of his turn (aura effect)

Li'remean Lurean |

Lurean leaps through the feywild away from the crows. "This is rediculous." Turning to face the creature, "You are mine!"
Move: Fey Step to G9
Minor: Inspiring Word on self regain surge value plus 5d6=19
Stand: Bane Blade vs T2's AC 1d20+28=42 3d8+14=27; Effect: Lurean's attacks do +2d6 dam vs. huminoid until end of encounter.

Rev DM |

Lurean - please can you confirm your position and your target. From G9 you couldn't have hit anything. I've put you at G7 and taken your target as T2, but please correct if I'm wrong in your next post.
The thrall collapses under Lurean's furious assault and the warlord's blade hums with concentrated power as it takes on a particular venom for humanoids.
Ravens flock and peck around Tavar as the cleric makes his move.
Home rolled: 1d20+30 (Ref) = 45. 3d8+4 + 1d8 = 7 untyped and 6 necrotic damage (13 total) to Tavar. Bugger. Three 1s in a row for the damage.
Morthalat looks irritably at the incoming heroes. "You do realise you are interfering in Orcus's business? I don't take kindly to this sort of interruption."

Genryu Yeegar |

Genryu flashes away and appears next to Theren
"HMPH"
A swirl of wind and a rise of wrathful sprits surround the old wardenn and mark his enemies.
Earthstride to G14 (move); Natures Wrath (free), marking T5, T7, M and E
"Ancient one! Flesh of ironsand, a priestly pagoda, glowing ironclad fireflies. Standing upright, silent to the end." Genryu lets an incantations flow from his lips. As it ends the old goliaths form is replaced with that of a towering stone beast.
Form of the Stonecrusher (minor) +2 bonus to AC. If I'm pulled, pushed, or slid, I can reduce the distance of the forced movement by 2 squares. Also attack on T5, T7, M and E (encounter, close burst 1), IC is still, 1d20+26=37, 45, 45, 33 vs AC; Damage 2d6+41=49 and thet are immbolized; Miss: Half damage=24, also Hammer Rhythm=8 damage Effect:you knock the target prone.

Rev DM |

Tavar's divine light does nothing to deter the flocking ravens.
Do you want to move anyway Tavar? You'll provoke an OA if you do.
Genryu (aura attack from S1) 1d20+30 (Ref) = 39. 3d8+4 +1d8 = 20hp (15 untyped, 5 necrotic) damage to Genryu
Brushing off the ferocious ravens, the old goliath chants, leaps and destroys two thralls while overturning both Morthalat and the engine.
Morthalat rages as the engine topples. "That is delicate equipment and it's taken me weeks, weeks, to set up ..."
His words are cut off by an explosive noise as the Engine takes its own revenge for the rough treatment, sending out a shower of sparks that slam into Genryu and Theren and obliterating another thrall.
Immediate reaction (free) when Engine or pylons are attacked. Close burst 3 centred on a square adjacent to the attacker. +33 v Ref. Hits Genryu, Theren and Morthalat. 4d6+8 damage and target is stunned to the end of its next turn.
Genryu: 1d20+33 (Ref) = 43
Theren: 1d20+33 (Ref) = 40
Morthalat: 1d20+33 (Ref) = 41
Damage: 4d6+8 lightning = 20hp damage each.
Seemingly restored by its outburst, the engine hums placidly again as the lightning plays merrily around the pylons and the symbols on the seal glow slightly.
Morthalat himself seems more menacing close too. Surrounded by mournful whispers, Theren and Genryu are dazed by the unexpected horror of the sorrowsworn.
Morthalat has an aura 1. Enemies starting their turn in his aura are dazed to the start of his next turn. It's not that relevant since you're all stunned at the moment anyway, but just so you know.
Round 1
Lavender
Lam - will take attacks from S1 and S2 at the start of his turn (aura effect)
*Raven Swarm 1
Raven Swarm 2
Morthalat - prone; marked by Genryu; stunned to end next turn

Lavender Glow |

Lavender opens, as he is wont to do, with a spray of light engulfing the ravens but leaving his allies untouched.
Prismatic Burst vs S1: 28 vs Will; vs S2: 34 vs Will; add 4 to one of those if it makes a difference. 24 area radiant.
He then appears on the excavation floor and gestures, enveloping himself and all of his allies in a faint purple glow.
Dimension Door to E9. Mass Resist on all for Resist 18 Necrotic through the encounter.

Rev DM |

Lavender's attack hits S2 with a little help from his previous lifetimes and the deva vanishes, only to reappear in the middle of the battlefield, well able to survey the turns of events.
Even as a few birds fall around him, Lam is assaulted by many more.
S1 (Ref) 1d20+30=36. 3d8+4=20 + 1d8= n/a due to Lav's mass resistance.
S2 (Ref) 1d20+8=38. 3d8+4=16.
