I will give you a beer at PaizoCon! You better be there.
Sorry, Zuxius. There's two problems there. One, I don't drink (yeah, I'm a tee-totaler, unfortunately). And, two, I can't make it to PaizoCon.
I will be at GenCon, however. And you could always give me a soda or something. :-D
Thanks,
--Neil
P.S. I do promise to be at PaizoCon in spirit, if you like. It would actually be nice if they could integrate some kind of web presence...chat, telepresence, whatever...for the online community who can't make it.

I too will not be at Paizocon, but will be a Gencon. My best good friend is getting married on June 13th and to tell the truth I wasn't liking that 13 hour flight on my short weekend; extra days off or not. Maybe next year. At Gencon however, I would love to meet you fellows in person and chip cups together (no matter what's in them.) I'll be the half-bugbear that looks lost, so keep an eye out for me.

Definitely. I'll probably swing by Paizo's booth like a thousand times while I'm there. So I'm sure I'll run into you eventually...well, not literally, I hope...but...well, you know what I mean.

That and the proverbial pile of baked goods - or a near-carpet of crumbs leading from all points towards your seat - will tell me you're Lilith :P

Considering that my avatar is blue and naked, it is probably a good thing I won't be coming :)
Oh, come now! You could totally re-use any Halloween costume of Mystique from the infamous X-men villains. ;-D
Me, on the other hand...well, how exactly would one show up as a silver dragon?

You'd have to spend a freakin' dragon's hoard just to buy that thing! No thanks.
How about if I just flap my arms and move around the room making "dragon roar" noises? No? It always works for my little girls while chasing them around the house. :-D
Or, how about if I just wear something really cool and claim I'm a silver dragon using its alternate form ability?

That's even more ridiculous than I thought originally. I read it as $120, probably because my mind couldn't comprehend the Lovecraftian horror of spending $1200 for that costume.
So, yeah, alternate form, good idea.
Worse ... that's the SALE price! It was originally $2250 ... though reading it, it is a mascot's costume, so designed for reusability and much action strain.

One, that is just too bad. Two, I can slip something in your Soda that will do the same thing. :)

Hmmm...you know, in that case, maybe I'll just worry about my own drinks. Oh...and I'm reconsidering a possible trip to PaizoCon. Mostly, it depends a lot on:
1) the ability to save money by sharing a room with someone,
2) a decision between PaizoCon and GenCon if I can't,
3) my wife being open to the idea of skipping town both before and after our 3rd baby is due, to attend both conventions, and
4) whether the 250 PaizoCon tickets sell out before I can reach a final decision.
So stay tuned,

3) my wife being open to the idea of skipping town both before and after our 3rd baby is due, to attend both conventions,
Neil,
I have chosen a career which garuantees, as one wise man put it, that I "will miss many important family events." I don't want to miss any of them, but it goes with the territory. I have been lucky so far: I've missed a few weddings, but I got to be around for the birth of my first child and most of her "firsts." However, I have also seen colleagues who were forced to miss the birth of children (some 1st, usually 2nd, 3rd, or 4th). I saw the looks on their faces when they opened their emails to see pictures of their newborns: joy from seeing the child, mixed with bitter disappointment at not being there in person. I watched them ride emotional roller-coasters as they met their children for the first time days, weeks, or months later. They had no choice in the matter, but you do.
I certainly understand the concept of "What will my wife let me get away with?" (like missing important life events, asking that question is common where I work) but this should not be one of those instances for you. Instead, you should be asking, "If I miss this, will I be kicking myself for the rest of my life?" I can tell you this: if I showed the above quote to one of the guys who missed the birth of a child, he would punch you in the junk without a moment of hesitation, for squandering a gift he was denied.
If you have a private jet to zip you home in under an hour if your wife goes into labor while you are at the con, then by all means, attend. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and stay home. There will be another con next year, but your child is only born once.

Thanks for the advice, Lucas. Actually, my wife is more supportive of me attending PaizoCon than GenCon at this point. She's not due until well into July. And, experience with our first two children indicates she's been very accurate in terms of her delivery dates. So, the risk of missing the birth of our 3rd child isn't anywhere near as high as maybe I led you to believe with my potentially "flippant-sounding" comment.

Just reread my post and realized that it may have come off as being rather aggressive, which wasn't my intent. I just hate to see guys go through that, is all. It sounds like you have a solid plan in place, and so I wish you luck and hope you enjoy the con.

Thanks for clarifying, Lucas. I admit, I was a bit worried that you seemed personally affronted by my comment. But I realize it's just something you feel passionate about...and you wanted to convey that in the event I hadn't considered everything in my decision. So thanks for your concern. I definitely take your advice in the serious spirit that you offered it.
