Female Utaku Battle Maiden 1

Tides of Battle: 1d10=5

Yukari's voice rose over the fog again. "You *will* unhand her!" the battle maiden exclaimed, the noise of her horse's hooves clattering on the wooden bridge accompanying her words.

Everyone except Heichachi:

Spoiler:

It quickly became clear to Yukari that the Tonbo would not listen to the group. Talking was no use - they would have to use force.

Guiding Arashi with her knees, the Unicorn attempts to manoeuver around into a position where she can act. Sliding her katana free, she strikes at the flying shugenja.

Attack: 8k4 = 26
Damage (if needed): 6k2 = 25
Ouch.. that's going to hurt if it hits..

Heihachi doesn't think so...

1d10=1

heh.

female Akodo Bushi 1 - Insight 123

Ume was still a bit unsure about the exact going-ons, but with her blade in hand, and the seeming enemy in her sight, she didn't second guess her instinct to strike out at the enemy. She merely lashed out, and hoped to connect despite the disadvantage of lower ground.

1d10=1

Everyone except Heihachi

Spoiler:

Trying to ignore the rumblings of Fuguki the Mirumoto bushi looks for a good place to strike but not seeing any it becomes apparent that he will not be able to strike his crazied clansman without the risk of hitting his companions. The fog was unnatural for sure as fast as it came up on them and Heihachi confirmed it but who was responsible for it. His clansman? He couldn't watch the state of his clansman and the sure death to come as his companion protected Ryoko from him. He faded back into the fog another few steps back towards Fuguki until he couldn't see the Hida anymore.

What is your action this round?

GM-Edonichi:

Spoiler:
I think he already took his action for this round with the continued Strength/Agility to hold on to Ryoko. Correct me if I am behind and need to take another action.

Nagatsuna

Spoiler:
No, you are right. Sorry!

Heihachi moves toward the edge of the fog on the bridge...

"where is he? is he in the fog with you?"

Initiatives:
Megumi 31
Ukiyo 29
Umasu 26
Yukari 26
Ume 21
Nagatsuna 19
Daichi 16
Ryoko 15
Heihachi 12

Megumi's voice rings out through the fog once again. "There is no love here, only a madman trying to steal away an innocent samurai! Utaku-san do your best to strike him down!"

"Quiet your fool's tongue, Crane!" retorts the apparently mad Dragon. "I will do whatever I need to to speak with the lovely Ryoko-chan without your interference!" Then his voice grows quiet as he begins to speak in a reverent tone, not much more than a whisper.

Yukari's voice rose over the fog again. "You *will* unhand her!" the battle maiden exclaimed, the noise of her horse's hooves clattering on the wooden bridge accompanying her words, followed by the sound of tearing silk and a barely muffled grunt from the Tonbo.

A series of almost bestial growls comes from the Matsu, and the Tonbo cries out in agony, his dishonor proven by the sound of blood splashing on the bridge.

"I believe you can set me down, Hida-san," says Ryoko with a strained voice.

From behind you, the voice of Heihachi cuts through the fog, "Where is he? Is he in the fog with you?"

Megumi:

Spoiler:
As you contemplate leaping from Yukari's mount and striking the flying madman, you notice a naginata strapped to the horse's saddle. I'm a fan of cinematic storytelling, and reward a good stunt with raises. ;)

Yukari:
Spoiler:
Your strike is met with satisfying resistance as it rakes across the Dragon shugenja's abdomen. He is able to move away from the strike, reducing the severity of the wound, but you notice that it buts him directly into the path of the advancing Lion Bushi.

Ume:
Spoiler:
As you approach, you see Yukari's blade sweep across the madman's abdomen, slicing silk and flesh alike. In his attempt to avoid the strike, he moves just close enough that you are able to land a vicious blow to his leg. His scream drifts off as he loses consciousness and *thuds* to the wooden platform,I went ahead and rolled for your attack, 5k3+ 2FR=28 which JUST hits, but the damage roll was pretty mean.5k2=28. I didn't do anything fancy.

Nagatsuna:
Spoiler:
You are caught slightly off balance when the Tonbo releases his hold on Ryoko, and the two of you almost tumble groggily to the ground. Before you can topple, however, you sense a presence behind you and see Kakita Umasu coming to lend his support.[ooc]I need another raw Earth roll, as a second wave of fatigue washes over you.

Daichi:
Spoiler:
As you move back towards the Monk, the form of Kakita Umasu moves past you towards the huge Crab. You hear the strange ramblings from Fuguki, but it isn't loud enough to drown out the scream of your other seemingly mad clansman. Suddenly, Fuguki stops talking, and grabs his bald head.

Everyone except Heihachi:
Spoiler:
A resounding *thud* shakes the wooden planks beneath you, as the Tonbo crashes to the deck of the Bridge.

Heihachi and no one else (hah!):

Spoiler:
You hear a shriek followed by the distict thud of a body falling to the ground. At the same time, there is a low, rumbling growl followed by two muffled screams coming from behind you.

Edonichi:

Spoiler:
Raw Earth roll: 2d10.open(10)=28 OMG! That's an amazing roll! I'll write up a description as soon as you tell me what happened :)

Hida Nagatsuna wrote:

Spoiler:
He cast Windborne Slumber on you again. You are once again able to fight off sleep, but you have an aditional +5 penalty to your skill-based TNs.

Everyone except Heihachi:

Spoiler:

Ryoko's words seem to fall on deaf ears as Nagatsuna shakes his head repeatedly and then falls to one knee as he repeats in almost a whispering chant to himself over and over, "The......mountain.....will......not.....fall...." Through some herculean effort he manages to stand again and gets out, "There are....more.....of them....must....get out..." His eyes harden in determination as he staggers through the mist.

Ouch, a +15 TN. I think the big berserker is on his last legs here. Can he tell who attacked him again?

"He has fallen on to the bridge Kuni-san-" Begins the Crane, while continuing there is a tinge of worry in her voice. "But your cousin has sensed others and we are not safe yet."

Everyone except Heihachi, we're so exclusive on the bridge! :P

Spoiler:
The Crane begins searching with her eyes while sheathing her sword. With the fog still choking any vision she begins to back off slightly.

"We must retreat from this fog, back to where we came from. Hida-san are you all right to walk?" She asks the towering Crab seeing the strain in his body.

After waiting for a response Megumi begins heading toward the foot of the bridge. One hand reaches for the unloved yumi on her back.

Go me! Forgetting what Megumi had! Also, is Nagatsuna visibly wounded?

GM-Edonichi

Spoiler:
I'll keep the naginata in mind and you'll probably get lots of cinematic moments from me if I can think of them.

DM ONLY!!! Rar!

Spoiler:
Heihachi spins ready for something to be charging him, that growl and two screams I suspect something nasty

Kuni Heihachi wrote:

Heihachi Only

Spoiler:
As you turn, the sight before is exactly like something your sensei tried to frighten you with as a boy. The merchant - you notice it's the exact same merchant from the Inn a few days ago - is standing over the limp forms of the two ashigaru guards, and lifting the thrashing body of the tax collector above his head. His face and arms covered in a sticky red mess, the cultist cackles as he tears the screaming man completely in half, blood and gore raining down over him, and into his open mouth.

The bloodspeaker turns towards you,a sadistic smile spreading across his face as he licks his lips and steps forward.

Everyone:
A sudden, terrifying scream erupts from the start of the bridge, where Heihachi is.

It will take 2 rounds to return the base of the bridge, unless you happen to be mounted

female Akodo Bushi 1 - Insight 123

Ume's lips pulsed with anger as she kept her blade at the ready to strike at the man one final blow. "Tell me, now, why I should not slay you like the common brigand you proved yourself to be."

It seemed she took the assault in her own homeland somewhat personally.

GM-Edonichi, anyone else moving to get off the bridge except Heihachi of course. Have to be snooty about it :P

Spoiler:
In the obscuring mists Megumi could barely make out her companions and navigating it was no small task. Every step had to be carefully measured, she might get lost and possibly fall off the bridge otherwise. But once she heard the scream coming from the base of the bridge the Crane threw caution to the wind and hastened her footsteps.

If there's a way I'll move quicker than normal to attempt to get off the bridge faster even if it means risking some unpleasantness. Otherwise assume my next two rounds of actions are getting off the bridge.

"NO! Bloodspeaker!!!!"

Spoiler:
Heihachi casts Jade Strike on the tainted individual. Is this the same merchant from the inn? What do I need to roll free raise on known shadow tainted opponents. Spellcasting, anything else?

Matsu Ume wrote:

Ume:

Spoiler:
The unconscious shugenja does not respond, though based on his answers to Megumi's pleading, you can probably guess at the nature of what his words would be otherwise.

It will take two rounds for those of you on the bridge to reach the base of the bridge. This can be reduced to one round at a flat run, but you would not be able to act when you arrive.

GM-Edonichi wrote:

I'm fine with that, especially given Heihachi's latest warning.

female Akodo Bushi 1 - Insight 123

The Kuni's call took Ume's attention from the defeated Shugenja for a moment. She had to make a snap decision, and it was that the lusty Tonbo wasn't going anywhere for a moment.

She kept her blade ready, and tried to gauge where the Kuni was standing. A bloodspeaker in her homeland was bad enough - letting him get away wasn't going to make it any better.

Female Utaku Battle Maiden 1

"Kuni-san! Are you hurt!?" the battle maiden shouts back over the fog.

Spoiler:
As the Dragon shugenja crashes down to the ground, the group only have a few moments of respite before another threat seems to present itself. With the scream and Heihachi's shout, Yukari calls out to the Crab before urging Arashi back down to the start of the bridge. While anxious to reach Heihachi as soon as possible, the Unicorn is still all too aware of the fact that if she pushes Arashi too hard, they may find themselves running off the side of the bridge before they realise what they have done.

Yukari will move back down the bridge as fast as she thinks she can safely go. Not sure how quick that will be in terms of round movement.

"I am, two ashigaru are not!"

Spoiler:
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. Spellcasting in 3ER is one of my weak-points, rules-wise. I will get back to you on your roll once I have a chance to look at my rulebook, which will hopefully be later this evening.

GM-Edonichi wrote:
Things. Sorry for the Delay!

Heihachi:

Spoiler:
You would be rolling your School rank/Spell Ring to make this roll. In the case of Jade Strike, you count as 1 rank higher because of your affinity to Earth kami and you would also get 1 Free raise. You can have an additional free raise if you want to use use a scroll, since you already have the spell inherent. If you choose to do this, your total roll would be 5k3 with 2FR to use however you wish. Please make the roll at your earliest convenience.

Everyone: Thank you for your patience. I'm still getting the hang of this PBP thing.

GM-Edonichi wrote:

It's cool, take your time to get comfortable.

Heihachi launches a shaft of jade at the bloodspeaker

Spoiler:
Just using the raise for the +5 5d10.open(10).takeHighest(3)=25+5=30

Kuni Heihachi wrote:

You succeed at casting - please roll your damage!

anyone have the damage for that spell, I didn't have a chance to even get online last night

Jade Strike:
3d10=11

Just wanted to let you know I'm still lurking around these parts, keeping tabs on the game.

Ditto! Been waiting for a response to my last action.

Sorry, think my spell casting threw our NewGM for a loop...heh

Heh, now your just being cruel ;)

Thanks, Shisumo! I apologize to all of you for dropping out of sight. Between busy season at work, the sudden appearance of a new supervisor, and four small monkeys having eaten my already less than encyclopedic knowledge of the L5R rules-set, I got a little lost.

I will write up a recap and bring everyone up to date as by the end of this weekend, and I promise to be more attentive from here on out. Thanks for your patience

Yay! Kakita Megumi offers tea to everyone in celebration of the rebirth of our L5R game!

Of course, by "end of the weekend" "I mean "Monday Night or Tuesday.."

GM-Edonichi wrote:

Initiatives, kept from before:

Megumi 31
Ukiyo 29
Umasu 26
Yukari 26
Ume 21
Nagatsuna 19
Daichi 16
Ryoko 15
Heihachi 12

For a split-second, the dense fog takes on a brilliant green hue that is followed by a sound that can best be described as some sort of creature cackling in pain. Using this light as a beacon, those of you on the bridge can determine which way to move.

Megumi:

Spoiler:
With the flash of light as guide, you are able to move at a less cautious pace. You are still in the fog this action, but you know where you are headed. Please make me a Perception/Investigation (Notice) roll.

Yukari:
Spoiler:
Arashi, eager to be free of the fog, answers your urging with a burst of speed that has you quickly out of the mist. Once free, however, you are almost tossed from the saddle as the powerful warhorse comes to a rearing halt as the smell of blood fills your nostrils.

The scene before you is pure nightmare. Two ashigaru guards lie in a motionless heap on the ground, their heads ripped from their necks. Your eyes immediately move to find the monster responsible, passing over the remains of a third peasant – this one torn completely in half - and settle on the beastly form of a blood-soaked man. He stands just over 8 ft tall, muscles bulging impossibly, and his face is the image of insanity. You only have a moment to soak this in before the fiend is bombarded with a fountain of green light and shards of what appears to be jade.

Advancing on the one responsible for his pain, the Bloodspeaker cackles in glee, even as smoke and the stench of charred flesh drifts from the wounds caused by Heihachi's spell.

Ume:
Spoiler:
Using the flash of light as a guide, you move towards the foot of the bridge. Based on the sounds made by the hooves of the Battle Maiden’s steed on the bridge, you can assume that you are pretty close to being out of the mist. Please make me a Perception/Investigation (Notice) roll.

Nagatsuna:
Spoiler:
”Allow me, Hida-san” says Kakita Ukiyo as he takes the weight of the drowsy shugenja-ko from your shoulders. “Go see to your cousin, and I will make sure that nothing happens to either of the priests.” [ooc]Please make me a Perception/Investigation (Notice) roll.[/oop]

Daichi:
Spoiler:
Just as you come upon the place where the big Hitomi had been standing earlier, it takes a moment to locate him. Fuguki is curled up in a ball on the bridge, clutching his head and rocking softly. He whispers to himself so softly you can barely make out the words “blood madness fear soft math magic letter kill lust mother crush” being repeated over and over, along with other non-sense ramblings.

Heihachi:
Spoiler:
You let loose a burst of green energy from your palms that coalesces into razor-sharp shards of pure jade that slam into the chest of the hulking mockery of a man. The blood speaker – clearly the merchant from the inn earlier – moves towards you as patches of his skin bubble and smoke. An evil laugh escapes his lips as he draws a fierce looking dagger from the remains of his belt and you can’t be sure, but it looks like he continues to grow larger with every step.

Fortunately, you see the Unicorn burst through the wall of fog, and more help is on the way by the sound of approaching footsteps from the bridge.

Edonichi:

Spoiler:
Perception/Investigation: 2d10=6 With the drowsy modifiers that has got to be abysmal.

Seperate question. Who is Kakita Ukiya? There was the Tonbo Ukiyo but he is bleeding out on the bridge I think?

Not even looking toward the man speaking to him, "No.....the fog....still dangerous....get the dragon...out too." He staggers forward with his increasingly leaden burden, unwilling to relinquish it, the single-mindedness apparently the only thing keeping him standing.

His objective is to get Ryoko out of the fog and not let anyone take her from him. He continues moving toward the green flash.

Edonichi

Spoiler:
Perception/Investigation (Notice): 2d10=6 I can't recall if untrained checks can explode or not and forgot about Void usage until it was too late. I'm a little rusty :P

Ok, no problem. Changes nothing. Can't trust a Crane to do a real samurai's job ;) I reality however, Nagatsuna doesn't know this guy well enough to trust him. Just FYI.
