"Well how, won't this be fun." Eglantine raises a quizzical eyebrow at the group and moves protectively towards Bren.
"You, my lamb, are going nowhere until you've slept. I'll guard you."
Despite the deepening gloom one can almost, just almost, make out what could be a blush on Bren's face.
"Eglantine. I'm not a child. I'm just tired."
"You're not a child, but you are an idiot. The point is, you're our idiot, so it would be nice if you stayed alive a bit longer."
Eglantine wanders away from the warrior and cleans her dagger, humming quietly to herself and seemingly satisfied with something.
"Two things I'll never understand. Elves. And women," mumbles Bren.
Elias laughs, "Well now, it seems you have all heard many tales of the fey folk. Let's see what's true."
"A sound plan." Catriana follows Bren downriver, looking for any settlement, sentient creatures or simply a place to camp for some time.
More tired than she'd ever care to admit, Eglantine follows along silently.
Yomi limps along after the others, humming to himself.

As you are walking along the river, twilight seems to last longer than it should, and it is not full dark, but you have seen no settlement. At last, you see motion of a humanoid figure walking slowly through the woods, ahead of you and away from the river.
Yomi, Catriana:
Catriana whispers: "It's some kind of plant. We could try and communicate with it. I've always wanted to talk to trees."

Catriana:
"Catriana, do you think now's the best time to try talking to a tree? I thought we were looking for a place to rest."
"Of course, the tree should know this area better and would be able to direct us to some place to rest in."
Catriana advances toward the tree-like creature, calling it to stop and talk.
Bren slaps his forehead.
"Why, of course!"
And shrugs.
Elias looks on with a smile and grins at Bren.
Eglantine suppresses her eyebrows and exchanges a small smile with Bren and Elias.
Catriana sighs, then returns to the group.
A thought strikes Eglantine.
"We'd better be extra careful about how and where we make a fire. Living trees might object."
She pulls her cloak around herself, aware that she's still extremely wet.
Elias nods "Yes, it pays to be careful."

It is finally growing dark as the small troupe arrives at what appears to be a ford in the river, with a wide spot of grassland on either side of the ford. Nobody else is in sight. It is the only site you have found clear of the large trees.

Eglantine gazes around cluelessly.
Elias bends down and examines the ground, "Hoofprints... Several days old, by the looks."
"I wonder..."
"Somehow I have a feeling these aren't horses but probably centaurs. I say we camp here."
"I don't care if they were centaurs, satyrs or the god of goats. As long as they're not here now and let us catch our breath, they can do what they like."
"They wouldn't be satyrs, Eglantine, as these are quite clearly four-footed beasts. Satyrs, as you know are two-footed."
"I remember them well. Drunken idiots. Oh - that reminds me..."
She pulls out the bottle of dust and spider-web encrusted whisky she picked up in the bar a lifetime ago.
"... I was going to try and bribe them to push off with this, but things got a bit out of hand. Want some?"
For Pat:
"Well, I think a fire would be nice. I'm still wet from earlier, and if I'm not mistaken most fey have low-light vision anyway."
After saying that, Catriana starts up a fire using her Prestidignation power. Sitting down next to it, she pulls out her flute and plays an old serene lullaby.
"I'll take first watch."
"I'll share it with you. You shouldn't stay awake alone. Besides, I'm too wet to sleep yet."
