Here’s a little bit of fun for everyone. I’ll post the answers on Christmas Eve.
There is one trick question amongst the following, but it does have an answer.
I do wonder if 28 and 29 are too obscure, but I’m sure that someone will know the answers.
Question 30 isn’t a D&D question, but most of you should know the answer!
If anyone wants to, please post your entries below in one spoiler post. Hopefully nobody will feel the need to cheat (by looking at previous posters' answers), but looking up various answers by yourself is fine.
Good luck! The prize is:

Wow, the ones about old school modules and adventures threw me, I haven’t played most of those. For what its worth, here are my attempt at answers:
1. Legacy of Fire
2. Varisia
3. Ed Greenwood
4. Drizzt DoUrden (I know I’ll lose points for spelling and lack of apostrophes…)
5. They are called Gish if they are multiclass warrior-type / arcane magic user type (classically fighter/mage) – was this the trick question?

19. I should know this… Is it Black Razor?
20. Ygorl and …Ssendam
21. I seem to think it was Roger E Moore, but I could be way off (for all I know its James or Erik)
22. I’ve heard of the adventure, but never seen it, and can’t remember the name

26. See above
27. Satan. Officially? No, I don’t think so.
28. Um…
29. Um…
30. What has he got in his pockets Precious? (You have, of course, the Precious).

24. Where the heck is Orlane?

26. Lefty and Righty?
27. Satan; there is a fleeting mention of him in the back of the BoVD, and since 2e was known for moving away from using actual demons and devils, I'm going to make an educated guess and say "Yes, in 1e."
28. The one which made Tolkien roll in his grave? (I hear he got a 20!)
29. A Christmas one?
30. Not fair! Not fair! It isn't fair, my precious, is it, to ask us what it's got in its nassty little pocketses?

29. In which magazine and issue number did an adventure appear that included Santa and Frosty the Snowman as NPCs?
30. What have I got in my pocket?
Okay, I'll bite and see how I can do without googling or looking at any books:
2. Varisia
3. Ed Greenwood
4. Driz'zt Do'Urden
5. Gish
6. Dragonlance
7. Zuggtmoy
8. Sigil
9. ? I know his bastard son is the Gorgon but I can't remember. I haven't looked at my Birthright stuff in a while.
10. ?
11. Tasha's uncontrollable hideous laughter (which doesn't beat Leomund's lamentable belaborment for most esoteric old-school D&D spell name EVAR)
12. In 2E, which monster healed all hp damage at the end of each round?
13. Sammaster
14. 128
15. In 1st Ed, it really was just the Elder Elemental God. In 2nd Ed it was Ghaunadaur. In 3rd Ed it was really secretly Tharizdun.
16. Orcus
17. ?
18. Graz'zt and Iggwilv
19. Blackrazor
20. Ygorl and Ssendam
21. I'm going to guess Kim Mohan but I'm not sure. Might be Roger Moore (but not the James Bond one).
22. City Beyond the Gate in Dragon #100
23. ?
24. Explictica Defilus, a spirit naga
25. This must be the trick question, because the location of the sunblade depended on the cards you drew to determine its location (along with the icon of Ravenloft and I think one other thing.
26. Oh crap. The adventure is A Paladin in Hell, which I ran, and I can see the map of the dragon's lair in the giant moat surrounding Straoth's Tower in the demiplane inside the Demonwing in my mind but I can't remember its name. Do I get half credit for pointint out that it was not technically a two-headed dragon but a dread linnorm?
27. Satan, and yes, he was statted up in an article entitled "The Politics of Hell," which I don't know the original issue but was reprinted in Best of the Dragon #2.
28. ?
29. ?
30. Presumably the One Ring of Power. That or pocket lint. Or, to use Gollum's guesses: "Knife; Handses; string or nothing," the last being a cheat, as it was two answers in one.
Not bad for not looking anything up.
6 clear "I don't know"
A couple of guesses or partial answers.
About 20 right. Pretty good I think.

The Black Bard |

Haha! I loves me slaad lords! I know that one!
Edit* Meh, I thought I was the first to know that one...curses. Oh well, I know about 20 of the 30 off the top of my head, but the rest are completely clueless, not even a cobweb covered box in the back of my brain.
Does anyone remember, back around 1995 or so, there was a second edition product that had a big (I mean like 100+ questions) quiz very similar to this? It might have been a promo handout or something, and it may be from even earlier (I'm peicing it to a time by the surroundings I remember reading it in, but thats a 8 year span).

Yeah, I think I still have that somewhere. It came out in 1995. It was some kind of free promo thing. It was coolio!

Here are the answers:
1. The fourth Pathfinder AP is called what? Legacy of Fire
2. The Rise of the Runelords and Curse of the Crimson Throne APs are set in which part of Golarion? Varisia
3. Who invented the Forgotten Realms? Ed Greenwood
4. What is the name of the well-known Forgotten Realms character that wields two scimitars and has a panther companion? Drizzt Do’Urden
5. Multiclassed githyanki (and only multiclassed githyanki) are called what? Gish- nobody else can be called one. Multiclassed githzerai are zerths. Non-gith multiclass arcanist/warriors are merely… multiclassed arcanist/warriors.
6. Which campaign setting featured Tasslehoff Burrfoot? Dragonlance
7. Who is the Demon Queen of Fungi? Zuggtmoy
8. The Lady of Pain lives where? Sigil
9. What was the name of the last Emperor of Anuire? Michael Roele
(Jason, The Gorgon was the illegitimate great-uncle (with quite a few greats) of Michael.)
10. Which adventures in Dungeon magazine involved problem solving and no combat? Challenge of Champions
11. What was the full name of Tasha’s well-known 2nd-level spell, prior to 3E? Tasha’s Uncontrollable Hideous Laughter
12. In 2E, which monster healed all hp damage at the end of each round? Greater wolfwere, from the Ravenloft Monstrous Compendium I. They used to have “8+3” HD, meaning that with an average of 39 hp you’d have to deal more than that much in one round, or it would be fully healed… :-) And they appeared in groups of 1-4. :-)
It’d be great to have these brought back, especially if you added a few levels of barbarian… but then I can be a vicious SOB. :-)
13. Who created The Cult of the Dragon? Sammaster
14. How many hit points did Tiamat have in 1E? 128
15. The Elder Elemental Eye was really which god? Tharizdun
16. In 2E, one well-known villain was reborn as Tenebrous. Who was the villain? Orcus (I’m happy to have asked about your favourite demon lord then, Saern!)
17. Which adventure in Dungeon magazine was inspired by The Tomb of Horrors? The Mud-Sorceror’s Tomb
18. Who are the parents of Iuz? Grazz’t and Iggwilv
19. Which sword was inspired by Elric’s Stormbringer? Blackrazor. This was introduced in S2: White Plume Mountain. It reappeared in the late ‘90s 2E adventure Return toWhite Plume Mountain, although I’m not sure if it appeared in 3.x.
20. Who are the two Lords of the Slaad? Ssendam and Ygorl
21. Who was the longest-serving editor of Dungeon magazine? Barbara Young
22. In one issue of Dragon magazine, there was an adventure which sent player characters to London; what was the adventure called? The City Beyond The Gate (Dragon #100).
23. In one issue of Dungeon magazine, there was an adventure which sent player characters to London; what was the adventure called? London Calling (Dungeon #83)
24. (Two part question) Who and what was the villain troubling the village of Orlane? Explictica Defilus, a spirit naga in N1: Against the Cult of the Reptile God.
Incidentally, this was also the first adventure I ever played, with my first (A)D&D character, Ericthecleric, who died shortly after botching a turn undead roll against some ghouls.
25. In I6: Ravenloft, the sunblade could be found in which room? This is the trick question! It could appear in one of six locations, depending on what was randomly chosen.
26. One adventure featuring Emirikol the Chaotic also features a two-headed dragon. What is the name of the dragon? Kroth.
(Jason, you get half a mark for the answer, for remembering the adventure name and those other details. Dread linnorms have two heads. The Monstrous Compendium Annual Volume One entry listed them as “Dragon, Linnorm, Dread”, so they are technically two-headed dragons!)
BTW, if any Paizo staffers read this, I’d like to see a proper updating of linnorm dragons at some point; the ones in the 3.0 MM2 were an embarrassment IMO. In particular, dread linnorms are tougher at every age category than red dragons, and Corpse Tearer should be even more deadly than a great wyrm dread linnorm.
27. (Two part question) Santa is an anagram of which fallen angel; have gaming statistics for this creature ever appeared in D&D form? Satan; yes- Dragon #28 in the article “The Politics of Hell” (reprinted in Best of Dragon 2), by the dubiously named Alexander Van Thorn. (He had 333 hp.)
28. In which magazine and issue number did an adventure appear that included the Fellowship of the Ring as player characters? White Dwarf #38. In the adventure Khazad-Dum, the PCs had to escape through the gates of eastern Moria.
For those who are interested, the Fellowship PCs were as follows (I’m listed the class names in their 3.x terms): Aragorn, human 7th-level ranger/paladin; Boromir, human 7th-level fighter; Gimli, dwarf 4th-level fighter; Legolas, elf 4th-level fighter; Frodo, Halfling 2nd-level fighter; Sam, Halfling 2nd-level rogue; Pippin, Halfling 2nd-level rogue; Merry, Halfling 2nd-level rogue; … and Gandalf, human 8th-level cleric (!!).
29. In which magazine and issue number did an adventure appear that included Santa and Frosty the Snowman as NPCs? Imagine #21; the adventure was called “For Whom The Bell Jingles”.
30. What have I got in my pocket? The “I” in the question was Bilbo Baggins, with the question being asked in The Hobbit. Saying The Master Ring, The One Ring, Sauron’s Ring, The Precious, or anything like that will do, including giving a Gollum-like answer. It refers to the last “riddle” Bilbo Baggins asks in the riddle contest when he can’t think of any more!
I hope people enjoyed the quiz! To those who entered, thanks again!

9. What was the name of the last Emperor of Anuire? Michael Roele
(Jason, The Gorgon was the illegitimate great-uncle (with quite a few greats) of Michael.)
I knew he was some kind of relation. Just not quite right.
Whoever answered the Midgard Serpent also gave a very close answer, since in the 1st Ed. Deities & Demigods the MS's body had infinite hit points and its head had 300 hit points, all of which would regenerate at the end of every round. Just it was 1st Ed and you asked for 2nd. I was kicking myself for not remembering it when I saw (after I had posted my answers) that someone had given that as their answer.
Thanks for the quiz - fun!
