This is a long shot, but maybe we should take inventory and see if anything has been stolen? If something has, I'd actually feel relieved, because it would imply that this "Ellisia" is just an honest thief. I doubt that's the case, of course, but it wouldn't hurt to check.
Heren Andercrote
'Alas I am not,' Heren says as he returns. 'Not much news on the ground, seems the canal is heavily taxed, and with little trade going to Casssomir even bandits are light on the ground out there. I'd reckon we should just take the wagon and head straight for our goal.'
'Oh,' he laughs 'and why is our marital status being called into question?'
Adjunta Paul
|
Adjunta's expressive eyebrows raise as he turns toward Heren.
"Someone will need to keep a watch on Ianthé and her maps," Adjunta says turning back to the others, "there is a question of her safety now, and I would ask that any married men volunteer for the task. We would need to ensure the lady's privacy for sure, and obviously we would wait outside while the lady attends to . . . hmmmm, when she attends to her personal matters, but the inn keepers isn't going to tolerate people sleeping the hallways."
Heren Andercrote
'Too true! Though I certainly trust the Adjunta, and he certainly trusts the tenets of his faith. Seems though,' he turns back to Paul, 'that you're the only married man. So if Ianthé agrees you'll be bunking with her for the rest of our inn time, which may not be much at all once we're on the road again.'
Adjunta Paul
|
"I think it would be acceptable for another man to share in the guard duty," Adjunta sighs, "as long as I'm also in the lady's room to chaperon, but I would have preferred another married man to share in the guard duty. It is unseemly for me, a priest and married man, to always be in the ladies bedroom. People might talk."
Heren Andercrote
"People might talk."
'I'm sure no-one will think ill of you Adjunta,' Heren says with a wide smile, I myself have no problem with the chivalrous duty of protecting a lady of course.'
'Though after tonight we may not have to worry about staying in inns very much at all anyway!'
Shall we all retire and get started on the next leg of the journey? In interest of expedience?

Yes . looks like a good idea
In the morning , you resume your travel .
And indeed , if in the beginning , there are still some inns , you soon begin to see that the area you are travelling in begins to be less rich
Bad roads , Inn with only a common room to sleep in , poor villages
sometimes , you sleep in barns .
you finally arrive at the junction of the canals to discover that the canal north of there has fallen into disrepair while the one east west is more used .
One night at a good inn makes a good change. Your questions about Brandon's bridge finally find some replies. It seems the village is in the outskirts of the Verduran forest itself and is thriving .
any special questions ?

Heren enquires after bandit activity in this region of Taldor, but is otherwise all for pushing forward to Brandon's Bridge.
robin
There are certainly bandits in the region but they attack merchants and isolated travelers rather than a well armed group like yours
Tou continue your travels but when the night falls , you did not find any place to pass the night and are forced to sleep outside for the first time ...
so how do you organize yourselves for the night ?
Ianthé Jack
Ianthé is relieved to be outside for once, their camp arranged and with night falling, she sat on her bedroll, content. Most certainly after this was all over, she would not mind having to walk anywhere. Looking around at everyone, she grinned wryly. "So, watches singly or in pairs?" Eyebrows raised, she turned her attention to Adjunta, who she was beginning to understand a little more of, to see what he would say.
While a decision was being made about it, she dragged her pack closer, and flipped it open, reaching in with one hand and rummaging around, verifying again that her spellbook was still in there, before pulling out one of the '--ever so lovely--', she thought with resigned distaste, standard travel rations. 'Note to self--Learn dinner spell.' Unpacking it, she took a bite, immediately washing it down with a swallow of water.
Heren Andercrote
'Pairs, I'd suggest lady, we haven't had bandit trouble yet, put their out there, and they know the land well enough to get close. I'll take whatever watch, I don't mind. Though as a non-spellcaster, I should probably take the middle watch, as my sleep needs not be uninterrupted. Yes? Either Malgasir or Mel can keep me company perhaps?'
Adjunta Paul
|
Adjunta nods, "pairs would be best," he says, "Hasim, Ianthé, and I are spell casters and will need our rest. With us doubling up and there being only 6 of us that would be three watches. First watch is best, I would guess that whoever is lucky enough to draw that watch should also be saddled with the task of looking after the horses and gathering the firewood for the midnight watch. Third watch is also quite easy so whoever draws that would also be responsible for starting breakfast and feeding the horses. The Midnight watch is the hardest obviously, and I imagine we'll need to draw straws to see who get's that watch."
Heren Andercrote
'Hopefully, the Church of Abadar lauds good cooking as conducive to a happy settlement! Upon breakfast, shall our expedition live or die.' Heren says in a serious voice, though he is unable to hide a smile.
'So divide up the watch, and me, the lad, and whoever's accompanying Paul had best get to sleep.'
Adjunta Paul
|
"Sadly no," Adjunta says, "but I do know how to boil water and cut oat cakes. Nobody will starve but hopefully whoever shares duty with me will be more knowledgeable. I moved from my mother's house to the seminary then back home. Regrettably the opportunity to learn the culinary arts never presented itself."
Ianthé Jack
Almost done with the travel ration, Ianthé swallowed before chiming in. "I'll take the first, since I'm already up and used to it." Rising, she stood easily and stretched, looking up at the sky. her bedroll lay near the firepit, and her pack lay at the head of her bedroll. Picking up her staff, she leaned on it, looking around at the rest to see who would be taking the first watch with her.
Hasim Bin Omar
I'm surprised. I never thought taking middle watch was such a big deal. It only means the spellcaster needs 1 extra hour of rest. But since it seems so important to some people...
"No one seems to want the final watch, so I'll take it... although perhaps I should warn you. I was once hired as a cook for a caravan... and after tasting my cooking, no one else would accord me with that honor."

... Hide 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 191d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Malgasir's perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Ianthe's perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
... 2 initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Ianthe Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
The first guard begins quietly enough , Malgasir and Ianthe exchanging some words to keep awake when suddenly ...
Attack against Malgasir 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 61d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Attack against Ianthe 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 71d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Both Malgasir and Ianthe are attacked from behind and a creature tries to bite them from behind happily without success !
For Ianthe [/ooc]
The shouts of surprise from Ianthe wakes everyone , Time for initiative from everyone but Ianthe
Hasim Bin Omar
Initiative = 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Vagrant-poet, the reason Adjunta is level 2 is that he's a veteran of this campaign, having gone through the first adventure - over 800 posts' worth. He EARNED his XP.
And the same goes for Mel[issa]. Although the character is technically new, she's played by Wellard, who played through the first adventure as Ewald Salodar.
Ianthé Jack
Fie, Fie the lot of you! There's a reason the OOC thread exists! The non-relevant blue goes there!
Dancing back out of immediate reach of the man-thing, she was already intoning words as she drew her staff across the area in front of her, then planted the end of the staff in the ground, completing the spell.
Casting Shield, then moving a few steps towards Malgasir, fending off the thing.
robin
End of surprise round.
Malgasir's initiative 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
first creature initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
So initiative by order
First creature (attacking Ianthe) 21
Mel initiative 18 (better dexterity)
Second creature initiative (attacking Malgasir) 18
Malgasir 15
Ianthe 12
Heren 11
Adjunta 8
Hasim 3
Hearing Ianthé shout, the first creature withdraws into the darkness
I 'm assuming the fire is not blazing and only shed light equivalent to a torch so the creature is indeed with its double move no longer visible to you .
For those who were sleeping, remember that stepping up from prone IS a move action .
Mel turn's to act ...
For myself
Melissa Evendale
Mel moves swiftly to come up behind the creature attacking Malgasir lunging smoothly with the rapier and chosing a vulnerable spot
Attack(+2 for flanking)1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Confirm critical 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Damage..3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5) = 12
wow..an impressive start..
robin
not really ...
Mel's actions standing up from prone (one action ) , moving up to the creature attacking Malgasir (one action ) => no more action for attacking. Happily being a 2nd lvl Rogue, you do have a +1 BAB so your rapier is in your hand. I'm sorry but I'm a stickler for the rules .
Being flanked by Malgasir and Mel and left alone by his friend , the second creature also choose to withdraw . It's nonetheless forced to pass near Malgasir since Mel does have its weapon ready. so its flight is not in the same direction as the other one even if it change direction after its flight . so one has gone north and the other one has gone west.
Heren move towards the creature going west . He is now in the zone of twilight from the fire , the creature should be 30' ahead.
robin
I must not have been clear enough there
The creatures are no longer visible . It's night and their double move means they have gone out of the radius (even increased) of the light given by your fire. This means than if Heren continues his action next round he 'll be in total darkness and that none of you can target them anymore .
Of course, given the way the creatures have moved , it is clear they do not operate under the same restrictions and must have infravision .
Hasim Bin Omar
'Can someone magically illuminate my shield, if you wouldn't mind?'
"I can," says Hasim. He does so, unless someone objects first.
(Of course, it would take a move action to stand up, and another move action to walk to Heren, unless Heren happens to be within 5 feet, so I might not be able to cast the spell until the NEXT round.)
