I recently loaded my old microprose disc, the one that's labeled Magic the Gathering.
God, it was a mistake.
I haven't been able to keep away from MtG for a week now. I've purchased 2 ten edition starter sets, 4 booster packs and have allowed my older brother into the dueling me.
Is this a problem? Am I selfish and rotten? Can I go cold turkey?
Let the snide comments and character assassinations being.

I vote for selfish. ;)

[nerdrage] Take a look at their rules. The real rules, which come in depth with various subsections. Then try and work out why an Ovinize played on a Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, whilst Kormus Bell is in play, according to official Wizards of the Coast rulings doesn't make any difference to the status of lands which would not be swaps but for the Urborg TOY, in BREECH OF THEIR SO CALLED 'GOLDEN RULE'. Then take a couple of nice, deep, disillusioned breaths and walk away for another half dozen years. [/nerdrage]
Edit:
Oh these are the guys who when 'cleaning up' old cards (presumably for their online version) decided to rule that 'Reveka, Wizard Savant' (Homelands Expansion), IRRESPECTIVE of the picture and the flavour text was in fact a 'legendary human wizard' and then took several months, in despite of the fact that this mistake was obvious to everybody else, to fix it and decide Reveka was in fact a 'legendary dwarf wizard'.

About every four or five months I find the game manual for my copy of the same game. About that time I think to myself "man I wish I could find that CD." Then I see a post like this, and I remind myself, not being able to find the CD is probably for the best.
Man do I miss that CD :(

You shouldn't had brought out your MtG stuff in the first place. I keep mine out of sight gathering dust in the toolshack. I think the last time a bought a booster was in the Saga of Volrath, can't remember the expansion...
The only thing I keep at hand is my Angels collection and the cards done by Rebecca Guay. Beautiful!

BluePidgeon,
Remember: You will never again be a M:tG non-player, you can only ever hope to be a M:tG EX-player. Huge difference.
A Non-player can bum a duel from a friend every now and then and have no problem. They can even look through a whole booster pack, or two. They can be casual without becoming a full-blown player.
But you... You have been a full-blown player. You know what it's like. You've feverishly pawed through a booster and evaluated every card. You've put together ingenious and impossible combos. You've felt the frustration of the mana hose. You've watched your opponents fall before the unstoppable might of your weenies. You know.
So you will never again be able to casually thumb through a booster pack. You can't install the game on a lark and play "a couple of quick duels". you have tasted the fruit, and now you can only ever be an Ex-player, or a full blown player.
Sorry.

Hey Cos, wanna play some MtGO tonight? Just one game won't hurt. We won't play for ante, it'll just be a friendly game. I'll even lend you some of my cards. No big deal. Just a casual game between friends. It's more for socializing than anything else...

There is a free downloadable version on the web with patches for both windows 95 and XP. Just use your searcfh engine.

Don't they have a 12 step program for this kind of thing?
We used to call it "cardboard crack". Kids always coming into the shop and buying it. You never know how they get the money for it, but they come in every week.
Was the same thing with Pogs. Remember the 6' florescent light tubes that were FILLED with those things?!

I have always thought it would be kind of cool to create a fantasy setting based on Magic: The Gathering. Use the cards for spell ideas. Using Hero, I thought that, to be a Mage, you would need a Base (land). That Base would provide the Endurance Reserve to power your spells.
I don't think anyone mentioned this. Someone did make a campaign based on MtG. It is called "DUSK". They called the world "Carthasana". Use those key words for a Google search and I think you will find it.

Only a poodle would think that was cool. Oh I guess that makes me a poodle, Um, move along, nothing to see here.
