Agun: Killing the hag covey has stopped the magically-induced precipitation. Using your runestone, you can summon a runehound into the empty circle to get the dam to "click on" enough to alleviate the pressure and keep it from breaking. That would buy you more than enough time to get back to the University of Hylore and commission a scroll of lesser planar binding to put a longer-term "battery" into place (enough to power the dam for a few seasons).
I'm glad you and Agun thought of that, because I never would have! Agun will talk to some of the higher-ups at the academy explaining that for extra credit he is submitting the discovery of a new source of near-renewable energy AND a unique situation to provide specialized training to young summoners. Ignoring any horrified looks he is given, he'll say the colloquial school slogan (i.e. "go <mascot>") in place of his standard "You're welcome," and walk out.
Also, Agun's been attending the University for two years now; it's reasonable to assume that he's taking electives as well as applied wizardry classes. You can therefore take 1 level of Expert (the NPC class) without it affecting his CR (much like Cadogan has that 1 near-useless level of psion). That'll give you something to do while you're out!
Sweet! Skill points, hit points, and a +2 to my will save!
P.S. Merry Christmas to you and the wife (and I assume the baby by now as well)!
Nope, no baby, yet. Still playing the waiting game. Christmas Day was the due date, but the doctor won't let him stay in there for longer than a week past that. I'm hoping that he's out before the new year. Will let you guys know!

The hardest thing about this game is playing characters with IQs several points north of 200. Occasionally, in response to questions like the one you asked (and when he has time to think about stuff), I'll let Agun deduce things that you or I otherwise wouldn't have been able to piece together. NPCs with outrageously high Int scores can likewise figure stuff out that almost starts to venture into metagame knowledge.

Oh gods yes. This is why I don't consider ability scores to be concrete things. Except for Strength, none of it really has a visible effect on the game world. So it's really more of a comparison. 'NPC A is smarter than NPC B'. 'PC X is wiser than PC Y'. That way your 7 Int character isn't a retard, he's just slow compared to the rest of the party. And your 23 Int, 14 Wis wizard is smart but still makes the occasional unsound investment.

I have a gaming friend that moved to Houston about a year ago. He says he has not found a group yet. I do not suppose any of you gentlemen could point him in the right direction.
I know he is familiar with 3.5. He knows of Pathfinder, but I am not sure he ever got around to picking it up. I also know he is familiar with Hero and old Traveller.

Hi do you need another player for pathfinder or DnD? I've moved to the Montrose area of Houston recently.
Quite possibly! Would you be available to meet for a beer or something at some point? Houstonderek and I are fairly paranoid about screening applicants before inviting them to join full-time.

Did you tell him about the 42 page questionnaire in triplicate, DNA testing and Level Three NSA background check?
Just to get on the waiting list?

Hahaha... actually "her" is the proper pronoun there, I wouldn't mention it, but you'd probably find out after the DNA test anyway.
Of course I wouldn't mind meeting up first, it's kind of expected. It's incredibly important to actually like the people you're intending to spend hours at a time with.

That reminds me... if I happened to travel down there during a game session, what kind of hoops would I have to jump through to sit in? (Hell, I'd just hang out and watch if the plot didn't have an opening.)

Hmmm, e-mail me? I figure that's enough of a hoop if you're coming all the way down from there.

To save you scrolling through this thread to find the pertinent e-mails, mine is hatheg at hotmail dot com. I'll forward it to Kirth so we can get this ball rolling ;-)

No shame in it... some of my best friends are female (da-dum!). Seriously, though, feel free to shoot me an email if you get a chance:

Recent announcement:
After a very successful interview this afternoon (anyone who drinks Blue Moon by the pint can't be all bad!), I'd like to officially welcome Mundane to the Aviona home game, by unanimous decision of those attending.
Look forward to having you at the table -- and can't wait to see what we can come up with for a schizophrenic secondary character!

Kirth Gersen |

I would feel better if you guys started without me. I literally have no idea how the next few weeks will pan out.
Understood. Hopefully TOZ and cyzy will be able to come down one more time -- that would give us 4 players, as opposed to two (three is about optimal, for my DMing comfort level -- two is like watching a ping-pong game, and five means that someone isn't getting heard).

Cadogan |

Ok, I redid Joaquim and Cadogan under v.2.0. Posted both characters under the appropriate alias. I juggled a bit in the skills to make fluff = mechanics (took two of Cadogan's free skill points and threw them in Profession (Gambler), for instance, to reflect all the gambling he does, instead of just relying on Sleight of Hand to cheat).
I'll keep them updated here so you have access to their sheets at all times.
I haven't finished Fiacra yet, still fiddling with a thing or two to make the mechanics fit the fluff.
Here's Cadogan.

Kirth Gersen |

Here's Cadogan.
Minor error: rogue's canny defense only applies if not wearing armor. With a chain shirt on, Cadogan therefore gets the benefits only of his fighter levels for canny defense, capping the bonus at +2. Taking the Martial Outlaw talent would bump his sneak attack to +3d6 and also allow the full +3 bonus for canny defense, but he'd have to trade in one of his other rogue talents for it.
Otherwise he looks very good. The stats (with canny defense at +2) have been entered into the central character registry for the campaign. He's official!
