Dark Archive

Also just wanna double check how this sidequest thing works is it for idea's we pitch or do we ask for one and Patrick comes up with something?

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Pitch me something! Shadow did, and Hamar got laid. I did Justin’s from a convo we had about a side quest we had discussed years ago. Dave’s was a quick way to get him some absolutely crucial gear to travel with.

The only rules are:

1. Try not to get in fights. I don’t want to retcon the fact you have one eye now.
2. Remember this is a solo piece within a past timeline (this time). I plan on doing this whenever you’re in Sigil from now on to give y’all some depth to your character in relation to your ‘home base’

Right now there is a two-day window from when you were preparing to take off from Sigil. I’m cool if you want to explore back story or do something interesting with your character.

I work for a University in Lousy-Anna. I run the Auditorium there.

So I am the Technical director, Facility Manager, Stage Manager, Office Staff, and anything else they can find to throw at me. (Which is a LOT, believe me.)
;P

And of course since we deal with live performances,... it is very hard to do anything (except basic office work, emails and such) from home. :(

Of course, MOST everything is either canceled or at least on hold til further notice, BUT we have students in musical performance degrees that MUST perform to graduate.

So,... solo student recitals allowed, BUT no audience, No teacher in the room, (live stream via Ipad or whatever)
But HEY WIZZIE! YOU can make sure all of this happens and the tech gets set up right?!? RIGHT? Good!

Oh, So NOW I'm indispensable (IE=Disposable);P

Yes, University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
What department your friend in?

By the way Dungeon Monkey,
NICE work on the doorman! I will remember Chert for a while. Dont know why, I just like the way you did it.

Might just be the idea of a 'retired' barbarian doing a doorman gig. (I have an image of Schwarzenegger's current face on the description you provided) or just the way you write. Or both! ;)

I was going to add in, “I was an adventurer like you once, but then I took an arrow to the knee”. But I thought better of it ;)

Bonus Easter egg nerd points if anyone knows where I got the name Chert from

Dark Archive

out of curiosity is the current adventure a homebrew or planescape module?

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

The side quest to the mineral is homebrew. It’s something I’ve been thinking on for a long time, ever since I read an article in Dragon 174(?) about Ioun stones naturally forming at the radiance/mineral border. Pando is the name of the stand of ancient aspen trees in Colorado that is/are one of the oldest/biggest living organisms on the planet. Owen K.C. Stevens once mentioned he’d used Pando as a multi-dimensional being in a game, and I thought that was a really cool concept, so I stole it shamelessly.

The actual long-ass quest you are on is a super-modified version of Monte Cook’s Planescape adventure Dead Gods. But it’s mutated a lot.

MAn, I am seriously losing my 'Nerd Cred' here.

Nope. Not a clue. I even Googled to see if I could figure it out. All I got was a LOT of articles about a mineral called "Chert", some kind of a silica-based Flint-like mineral?!?

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Gary Gygax wrote a book that was a Fafhrd and Grey Mouser rip-off with two adventuring characters Gord the rogue and Chert the barbarian.

OH!
My goodness, I actually have one of those!
"GreyHawk Adventures, Book 1, Saga of Old City" (Just found it on my shelf)

I recalled the name of Gord the rogue, but it has been too long since I read it, didn't remember Chert. :)

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Yeah, Gygax was a good game maker, but a middling author.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Yeah I'm not in any hurry to replace them

Hey,
Just as long as Justin has meat shields, I mean GOOD, BIG, STRONG friends to hide behind,.,.. erm, ASSIST with his spells, all is good!

(THAT'S my story, and I'm sticking to it!) ;P

I think you called it right.

(Well, at least Karrin's AXE is about to be very happy!) ;P

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

It's cool. You've already started without Sophie (which I understand, I was rather lax getting back to it), so I can sit out this section and come back in when you come back to Sigil.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Well, this is the first scene where we are fighting. If you want in, roll initiative and I’ll plug you in

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Also, on the map:

The orange hexagons are standing in for the large stalagmites the xorn were hiding in. The ‘ W’ symbols are the xorns with the two wands in their hands. The others are carrying three large clubs each. The clubs look to be made of some sort of black metal, and are studded with various sharp crystals at their tips.

There should be. When I made it, it was fairly large

I don't see any zoom function on the page, and when I open up the image itself in my browser, the biggest I can get it is around 600x800px.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

If you are on desktop, double click on the image. Photo bucket has such a large thumbnail a lot of folks mistake it for the actual pic.

Cool Cheers

I've got the list of Magic Items she bought sitting here, I'll add them into her character sheet tomorrow. For now, they are:

Quick Runner's Shirt
Handy Haversack
Bracers of Falcon's Aim
Gorget of Umbral Hunger

Patrick Curtin wrote:

Tried that. All it does is open the image in a new browser tab at ~1.5x (~600x800px) of the preview.

Let me see if I can change the image size in the address bar. Sometimes that works.

Nope. No matter what size parameters I plug in, it stays the same size, which isn't the size specified in the URL. I bet this has something to do with the ludicrous level of copyright protection Photobucket has been implementing recently--when I tried to save the image, it would only let me do it as a low-res .webp file.

I'll just zoom in on my entire browser window if I have to, it's just kind of annoying.

If that last attack is confirmed it would be the first time I actually used a Vorpal feature on a weapon as a player in D$D, in 32 years of playing. Though I do mostly DM...

Looking forward to leveling. At 11th level I will take the Feat Improved Skirmish and then whenever Hamar moves at least 20' his Skirmish Damage will be 4d6+2. :-)

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Yeah it’s been a while. After this dude quest I’ll likely give you guys a level

Hmmm. Is there a photo upload service you’d prefer. I’m happy to reload it. Actually I’m likely going to have to update it today with Sophi in

Come to think of it,...

I've been playing (off and on) since I was 11 or so, and I'm not sure that I recall anyone actually confirming a Vorpal hit.

(I mean, MAYBE back in 1st ed, when a hit was auto confirm? maybe??)

Not super worried about it; maybe post a backup on FB:tMT just in case (no pun intended).

OH yeah, every time I write more than a sentence (Which is,... always?!?)

I NEVER regret having made a 'COPY' while typing.

I ALWAYS regret having NOT done so. :(

That glitch seemed to be gone for a while. I think the Post-monster has returned. ;P

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Dave, I put a copy on the Treefort. See if that works.

I am chuckling to think this party just found the equivalent of King Tut’s Tomb (at least relatively recently in game) and Justin is still scraping to find 10 Gp to pay a swanky bar’s cover charge.

LOL, that's our wizzie.

On the other hand,... SHINY NEW TOYS! ;P

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Ok, here’s yet another corner case. I don’t know why I gotta get these ... but...

OK- you cast Spiritual Weapon. The blasted thing scores a nat 20. Can it crit? It’s a spell, but also a weapon. I can’t find any help on the Internet

Yes, it can crit, and it has the same threat range and critical modifier as the ordinary weapon it's a spiritual form of.

Oh, and Sophi, you get a +2 AC bonus because Mel is using his Saving shield feat to partially shield you with his ...umm shield..lol

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Well, I feel accomplished today, I got Mel’s character sheet sorted out somewhat. I just need to do his gear and he’ll be all set. Only took me a year and a pandemic to get it done, lol

Do the forums still re-roll dice if you edit your post? That formatting error is killing me, but I don't want to lose those insane rolls.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Nah it’ll keep them. I usually have to go back and edit constantly, but they have a no-cheat failsafe. Even if you erased the rolls and redid them, the site always keeps the last roll, even if modifications are changed.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Plus that crit you rolled does double the level drain. Just looked it up, I remembered something like that happened to Karrin. I think she ended up four down.

David M Mallon wrote:

Apparently the answer is no, they don't re-roll. Looks like they finally fixed that one at some point over the last 4 or 5 years.

Oh f&~!

That seems unbalanced.
