But you'll lose all the beautiful typeset fonts! How can we sell this to our gaming groups if it does not have beautiful typeset fonts?

I would like to add my voice to the chorus.
Also a "light" version would also make paging through the pdf much faster.

There may also be a way to set up the PDF with layers you can turn on and off. Throwing the text on one, the illustrations on another and the background image and yet another would solve the printing problem.

Work-around found here ...
All I want to do is hit print on the pdf and have my network printer spit out the pages - not choke and die which it was doing repeatedly yesterday, even though I tried some tricks and even tried printing only a few pages at a time.
If you have lots of spare time, yes, sure, you could spend some hours copying, pasting and reformatting. Unfortunately I don't :|

Opening up the base document and stripping out the background can't take that much time and will collectively save us a lot of man-hours. Besides, they are republishing this thing fairly frequently; implementing a print/browse friendly version when they do this shouldn't be too much of an additional chore.
Alternatively YOU could make your word version available.

Im copy-pasting everything to Word, if is ok with Paizo and someone has somewere to host the file I can share it when I finish it, or I could send it via e-mail.
Good Man !!!
See if you can upload it to these guys at RPGenius.
Good luck,

Please don't share versions of the playtest documents. We want to make sure we keep everybody on the same page (literally and figuratively) throughout the playtest.
We'll probably make this happen, but the art director for the project is on a well-deserved vacation at the moment.
Ok, Ill just then use it on my game, I was just trying to help those that want a more printer friendly version.

I must be dense . . . but this "printer-friendly" version looks exactly like the regular version. How is this new version supposed to be eaiser on my printing needs of not wanting to use up so much black or colored ink?

It is a subtle, yet very large change. The background was removed, which is the largest change I can find. It means you now have a white background which would lead to a large change in the amount of used ink. There's still pictures, but overall I think it would take a lot less ink.
When I used to participate in playtests for Hero Games, their playtest docs were just two column text. Tables were really hard to read and it was quite in-elligant.

Bah . . . I guess this just falls into the catagory of "Can't please everyone." I was expecting the "printer-friendly" version to be art free.
I mean, I can understand having the art in the beta release. but I don't want to have to buy a new ink cartridge every time they release a new set of updates. I'd planned on printing off a cpy of the rules for each of my players . . . Ah well.

Take it to Kinkos and photocopy it in B&W, even if it's straight text kinkos copys are much cheaper.
Personally I like the printer friendly version a lot, the old version took about 45 minutes to print for me while the new one was spit out in about 5.

Another request I would like to bring up would be to have each section sperated in the print version, including each class. I know it seems a burden but it would be nice to print just the sections I want so I don't have to waste paper when it comes to having to print extra pages if I only want the cleric or ranger or whatever for players.

In your Print dialogue, just specify the range of pages you want to print!

I was hoping to hear a report like that!
In addition to removing the background, we also reduced the resolution of the images (though you shouldn't see much difference on the printed page), which should help reduce print time for printers with low memory or slow connections to the computer.

Would it be possible to upload a version with just the text? It does worlds of good to the people who print it out. When the RPG is released I, of course, want a version on glossy paper with color and all that, but printing out all those pretty pictures now is rough on cartridges everywhere...
