Alpha Playtest Feedback General Discussion

Just wanted to post and say I'm very pleased with this.

Thanks guys.

Thank you everyone. I honestly cannot thank you enough. This has made Pathfinder my main 3.5 setting when I'm not running my homebrew.

I'm shocked and impressed! I will continue supporting Paizo.

Same here. Way to hold your own Paizo. I couldn't be happier

Alright, now I really need to get off my butt and subscribe!

Me too! My wife, on the other hand, isn't too happy because I just pre-ordered a ton of stuff to show my appreciation to Paizo.

Good for you Paizoites! I'm sure you'll make the best d20 fantasy game out there.

Congratulations for this courageous move and all the best wishes. I am staying with you as long as possible.

Hmm ... now to figure out that 'charm wife' spell so I can order more stuff ...hmmm consults spellbook

I'm thrilled beyond belief - way to go Paizo!!

I am not sure about yours but mine will usually buckle after a good hour long Bigby's Massaging Hands spell.

Shadow Lodge

I'm speechless. In the best possible way.

This is great news and im super excited

Hoody Hoo! I like the system as is and will continue to support it in any way I can (including running it via any means possible - Fantasy Grounds, stores, etc!).

Good on ya Paizo

YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

What an unexpected and awesome surprise!

I applaud this courageous decision, and pledge my support. I am over the moon - I have a big 3.5 library, and I'm thrilled that I can keep adding to it.

This is a brave and positive move for Paizo and I wholeheartedly support it. I was about ready to give up on you guys. After all these months, I was sure you'd eventually go to 4e and I'd miss out on all the cool stuff you had in store for Golarion.

Now I needn't worry. I'll be making good on my promises to subscribe to Pathfinder and your other lines if you stayed with v.3.5. I'm in for the long haul now.

Thanks for making my day.

Flippin' great! This is what I wanted from you guys. You just got yourselves another subscriber!

Love it, love it, love it!

I would be dancing with happiness right now, except I'm a) sitting down and b) reading through the Pathfinder RPG alpha; sadly, each of these would be disrupted by happiness-induced dancing.

Will Kobold continue, or some other 3.5 monthly PRINT magazine?

The rampaging goblins had me worried - now I'm relieved!

Consider yourselves supported.

Best. News. Imaginable. :)

Thank you Lisa. I was so excited that I was beside myself!

YAHOOOO!

This is the direction I was hoping they'd take, but I never dreamed it would happen! Already preordered the new system and looking forward to continuing my 3.Paizo game for as long as I can pick up a die.

Thank you for taking this step, I know it wasn't an easy decision.

Well, now you guys went and freaking did it. I was all prepped for Paizo to go to 4e, and I was satisfied with my future situation of not being interested in buying any more products.

And now Paizo has gone and made me want to go crazy buying their products again.

Curse you Paizo! Take my money. Take it! ;)

First of say, allow me to say

WOOOHOOO!

I think it's called Mind Bondage - though I'm not sure whether it works on wives. It does work on fathers and is good for 200$ worth of RPG stuff per casting.

Well, my wallet isn't happy--but I sure as hell am. :D

If you're asking about Kobold Quarterly, we can't speak to that because we're not the publisher. It's put out by Wolfgang Baur's company Open Design. (Also, it's not monthly—it's quarterly.)

2009 will likely mark the end of Pathfinder for me, I already know none of my friends are going to go with a third option. It's either 3.5 or 4.0, not 3.Paizo.

Standing ovation

Shocked but delighted.

Kobold Quarterly is not a Paizo product, it's done by Open Design. They have no plans of stopping production.

This will save me a lot of money on buying those pesky 4e books from WotC. Which is good, because between Pathfinder and its associated lines, Paizo is really cutting into my budget.

I have to admit I'm a little numb and giddy and...well I can get new pants later... It's like in A Christmas Story when Ralphie finally gets his Red Ryder BB Gun.

I am so going to shoot my eyes out for years with Pathfinder!

Grats on the decision guys and I'll be shoveling money at you like a mad man.

Mmmmmm-hmmmm!!

Testify, testify!

:) :)

Looking forward to spending ludicrous amounts of (spousal approval pending) cash on Paizo in the wake of this decision!!

Cheers,

Congratulations, guys! I was afraid that you were going to go 4e (and I, after pondering a while, would probably not continue with a 4e Pathfinder), but this is great news!

Good luck.

I just have to say that I am absolutely ecstatic about this. I had absolute confidence that this would come to pass, well more like I was crossing my fingers and praying that it would. ^^;

You've got my business.

((And from the wife))

Dear Paizo, thank you for not letting us down. We love the D&D game and have been dreading the approach of 4.0 like a vampire fears the approach of day. I cant' thank you enough for listening to the fans and improving the game instead of remaking it. Thank you from the bottom of my little gnomish heart.

I am thrilled beyond words. My hat is off to Paizo, and my wallet is open . Thank you for keeping my version of D&D alive.

I salute you Paizo. I salute you.

This takes great courage, and I have great respect for what it takes to attempt something like this. You continue to inspire me and reinvigorate my love for this game. Thank you Paizo. Thank you.

Hey Guys, Thanks a lot!! I am really excited. I was hoping and praying you would keep Pathfinder 3.5 based, but I was preparing for the worst. I am proud to keep supporting you in your ongoing endeavors. I have been looking at the Alpha stuff and I like what I am seeing. I think its great you are doing this with fan input. Hazaaaaaa! Organized play as well! I can't wait.

SirUrza, I for one will be sad to see you go.

I hope you'll at least download and read the various Alpha playtest releases as they come out. We knew this wouldn't be for everyone. I'm sorry its not for you and your gaming group.

Maybe you won't have to. The editorials do mention that backwards compatibility is going to be a consideration right from the start. Hopefully that will be enough to keep your group enjoying Pathfinder.

THANK YOU PAIZO!

Just downloaded it and reading it eagerly. So far I like what I see -- the only suggestion I have right off the bat, and you may have done this already, is to look to Star Wars Saga Edition's philosophy re: simplification of the rules. One of SWSE's great strengths is that monsters and even complex, high-level, multiclassed NPCs can be built in a fraction of the time that they can under standard 3.5.

For example, retrofitting stat increases should be as friendly as possible. Y'know the way you get free hit points if your Con goes up at 4th level fer instance? Trained skills should go up if your Int goes up instead. That kind of thing.

For another example, dump skill synergies, jump bonuses for movement, and stuff like that. Massive min/max headache juice, for no real in-play benefit.

Like I say, I've just started skimming the book, so if you've done these already, cheers!

Thank you for getting me excited about (d20 fantasy roleplaying) again! :D I've been in a depressed slump about it for months until today.

-The Gneech

EDIT: ONE MORE THING! Please base everything on CHARACTER LEVEL, not CLASS LEVEL, plskthx!

SirUrza wrote:

Oh, that's certainly the same with us. We have absolutely no intention whatsoever to purchase yet another set of rules that "fix" what my group and I consider to be entirely mythical "problems" that only seem to exist on the internet. This Pathfinder RPG is a no-go right from the start for my group.

But it's the backwards compatibility that's for us - I'll certainly be keeping an eye on this 3.Paizo to see if it really is backwards compatible enough for my friends and I. If I can run the NPCs and monsters from the Pathfinder modules against 3.5-made PCs without a lick of work on my part, I'll keep buying.

At first glance at the Alpha, it looks like I pretty much can (except for the goofy skills - sorry guys... the 3.5 skills are still the best list I, and more importantly my players, have seen yet out of any game). The NPCs look like they'll just have some nifty abilities [and may actually be worth their CR *ahem*].

Yeah!!!!
