Quiet Saturday night in chaps?

Cheers

p.s. just like me. Watched a great game of rugby, Wales vs Ireland down to the last kick of the game to win the Grand Slam in the Six Nations. Am I speaking a foreign language? Mothman, surely you know what I mean.

Sounds like a good game, though I'm surprised neither Australia or South Africa were in the final. Of course, I haven't watched much rugby for about 10 years, so the balance of power might have shifted a bit. Who won?

Speaking of sports, the college basketball tournament's upon us Stateside. I won the office pool last year, but with a couple of upsets this year, my predictions look a bit off. Blah!

I'm waiting for football season. We should rename it Tebowball cos football is soccer.

Just to let you know, my posting might be a bit disrupted for a few days as I am on business in Scotland.

Liberty's Edge

You sure seem to get to travel a lot in your job. Do you consider that a perk or a hassle?

To Scotland?!? PERK! :)

The Exchange

Not so sure, my wife has been to Edinburgh and Glasgow four times this year on business and she just wants home life now. The gloss has gone off the travel for her.

She was almost slated for Belfast too. It fell through.

Travel with work is not that much fun - as Wolfy says it the excitement palls quite quickly. But some people love it - including my boss, so we are hauled off to an "off-site" event in Stirling (nice town, by the way, from what I have seen) to pointlessly chin-wag. Beats working for a living, I guess.

I'm lucky we go nice places when we do go places - Hong Kong, Singapore, Chicago - but I react badly to jetlag. And I'm not terribly gregarious so the party-party aspect down-route also doesn't do it for me. All I really need is a chat with colleagues during the working day and to go home and see my nearest and dearest. But I'm lucky - the job pays well, seems reasonably secure in the short term and I don't really work very hard. I also travel much less than many others.

Wow,...
Where can I sign up Aubrey!?! ;)

The Exchange

:-) Have to do all the exams first. And I'm doubly lucky that my bosses don't understand what I do, so they leave me alone and assume I'm some sort of genius.

But the travel stuff is a double-edged sword. You can be in nice places (like I go) or you can be doing jobs in Argentina where you have to flee the country in fear of your life because you have found a fraud that local management were up their eyeball in (like a friend of mine did - they were followed down the road by cars with tinted windows, had to play cat-and-mouse across Buenos Aires, and only relaxed when the plane back to London finally took off). It's not all that great.

But more generally, you are not there to have a good time but to work - you see offices and you see hotels, and not that much in between. Travel is tiring, even if you are just hanging round airports. I got to do a secondment in Hong Kong for a few months so got more of a feel for the place, but I was out there alone because my wife had work commitments so that basically sucked, on balance, too.

Wow. At least your not bored! (dodging terrorists in Argentina might be a bit more than my constitution can handle though!)

What, Exactly, is it that you do Aubrey? If you don't mind me asking?

I'm a contract assassin.

Portmerion I believe is where the Prisoner, and his big rolling balls, were shot.

Wiki says they're remaking the prisoner....I don't know how I feel about that.

The Exchange

Yeah, the old version is on TV still.

I believe you mean blancmange?

Don't make me start the marzipan thread up again.

And, yes, Portmerion is still there, on the western coast of Wales.
It's not a purpose-built set, it's a real place, built by a nutter, or an 'eccentric', as we British call them.

Anybody heard from Kruelaid, or have his email or anything? Just worried, on account of his recent accidental poisoning incident.

He posted on Thursday to our Z Day game, saying he was still feeling a bit under the weather, and that there was some work craziness. Don’t have his email address.

Good to have you back Kruelaid. Has someone put a hit out on you? Maybe a rival mapper?

Hey Heathy, have you checked out the new Mastodon album? I just got it, and it is rather excellent.

I have been hearing a Mastadon song on the radio a bit lately, Divinations, is that from the new album? Sounds pretty good.
