Obvious sign that the Apocalypse is upon us: I got a recruitment letter from the US Navy today. They offered to help me get a BA and then become an "object of awe" (seriously) serving on some ship somewhere. Nevermind that I'm not American, a veteran of the Norwegian army and almost done with my PhD. Don't these guys do any mass-mail screening?
An 'object of awe'?
LOLThey want to turn you into a lantern archon!

From this Friday, I'll be mostly offline for a week (I have a big week-long take-home exam; I'll probably check in every once in a while) and then completely offline for another week or so (going to a conference in New York; no internet while I'm there).
If Heathy just wants to stash Altai away somewhere, that's OK - if not, that's OK too. Just don't sit around and wait for me.

Wellp, I might have a considerable amount of utter bullshit to deal with starting this Friday night involving a longish road trip etc....etc....I too might be off the radar this weekend, loathe a prospect as it may be. Not altogether sure yet how I shall proceed.
Long, boring story and all.....

I might not have to go; if I do it will be zero fun. But I'll try.
Long story.
If I don't go it will be apparent by my usual posting patterns being in evidence.
I'm around; prolly going tomorrow.
I'm kinda distracted with this bullshit right now, so I think the best thing for me to do is cop out of gaming tonight, and I'll maybe be back in a couple days.I love youse guys, though.

Right on; sorry to lay a trip on you or anything.
I really don't get into that, but I was wondering how cryptic my previous posts sounded.
So, in essence, I guess my life, job, and health aren't in jeopardy, maybe my sanity is, but that's nothing new.

I'm an only child, so sibling stuff.....it's like some form of alien culture off of Star Trek, with trippy social systems that demand your death if you step on somebody's lawn or something. Siblings freak me out.
"You do the dishes this time!!!"
"No."
"I always do the dishes....You do them!"
"No."
Heath-"hey, guys...I've been hanging out for a couple days,...I'll do the dishes."
Both brothers...."NO!!!"
F&&* me.

Hey, I'm back.
Had crazy week/weekend myself.
MArdi Gras party in my auditorium,... yippie,...
Will be busy this week with a musical a high school is putting on (Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat) SO I'll pretty much be unavailable at nights, but should be able to keep up during the days.
Family,... DOn't get me started.
I love mine & my wife's, don't get me wrong.
But the older I get, the crazier they all get!
They're starting to make me look positively normal!
Ain't that funny?!?

I’ve got two brothers and a sister. Used to fight with my brothers all the time, but D&D (etc) brought us together … get on fine with them now, and still game with them. My sister … she’s cool you know, but I don’t get her. She … kind of gets really obsessed with things. Causes, TV shows, people, organizations, whatever. That’s all you hear about for a year (until the next obsession comes along), and she doesn’t rest until everyone around her is as into whatever it is as she is (which never happens). It can be … tiring.

And right now I'm having one of those "my mouse broke and now all I've got is a trackball" days.
f%&*.
Hehe.
I have a 9 x 12 WACOM board.
When I'm doing research I need to do some serious high speed document browsing and I just can't get the twitch happening without a high resolution mouse.
You know those kids who hack 3D shooters and hotkey like a motherf~@!er while point and clicking with merciless accuracy and they rack up 100 kills to every death? THat's me except for I'm old.

How are you going over there Aubrey? I hear its pretty bad in the UK at the moment - any flooding near where you are?
Yes, FW has a point. I was concerned you were toast - quite literally - though I guess Sydney is not near the fires? The weather situation here is, shall we say, fluid. Snow, rain, gales, ice, flooding - we have it all, in various parts of the country. Last week was a nightmare as I couldn't get to the office twice (well, not so much a nightmare, but it became increasingly annoying as the work piled up) due to the snow. This morning I fell over on the ice, even as it warms up (a bit). But I'm OK - I live on a hill, so the floods really need to be biblical to get to me.

That’s right, momentarily forgot that you were in the UK too FW (the “French” bit always throws me).
Yeah, the serious fires are nowhere near us thank the gods (nowhere near as in hundreds of kilometers away). It is seriously bad down there, 180 people confirmed dead so far (they are expecting death toll to reach 300 or so) and whole towns literally burnt to the ground. Astounding and horrifying. And to make matters worse, they reckon that several (most?) of the worst fires were a result of arson. What kind of complete psychopath (and I can only surmise that they are psychopaths) deliberately lights a fire in bush fire season and territory in an area that has seen 40 degree + temperatures for almost two weeks and no rain for almost two months?
The only good about the whole thing is that people around the country have really come through with help, I think they have raised about $30 million in donations to help so far.
We've had bush fires in Sydney too this week, but nothing very serious ... and it's been cool and raining over the past few days, so that's good.
