"How is everyone?" Chloe asks, wiping the sweat from her brow sheathing the scimitar. "By Desna, we will see this through. Bowen? You look hurt. I'm still not myself either. Let's see if we can ask for Desna's luck just once more."
Channel positive energy... 1d6 ⇒ 4
That's going to leave Chloe with one last channeling available today.
Bowen Quaid |
Bowen stretches his shoulder and looks at the newly closed scars he has aquired. "I'm better but not full strength, but I think I can survive a little longer. Is this where you were being held? Do you have any information on what ahead?"

Chloe looks around and frowns.
"I'm...not sure..." she sighs, "It's really confusing down here. When we escaped, we ran as fast as we could, just hoping to find a way out."
I'll leave it to Wicht if there's any clue that might jog Chloe's memory.

"Some chanting ... I think," whispers Rall. "Chanting would not be good, right."
The Chronicler |
Chloe dimly remembers running through the room of the battle but it was dark and she had not stopped to take it all in. She has a dim recollection of coming through the northern tunnel, having fled through a throne room of some sort.
As the party moves into the cavernous tunnel, northerly, they move through a kink in passage and can see flickering torchlight ahead. There appears to be a room some twenty feet further ahead.

"Wish we had Balnar to run in there for us. Or maybe Fee's constant talking to take my mind off what is in this next room. Seems we've lost an awful lot already. Let's hope we can save this last kid." Bowen lets out all his emotions in a worried storm in case he doesn't get the chance to do it again.

Rall puts his hand on Bowen's arm. "If the child is there, one of us take him to safety. The rest of us will keep her from being followed. Chloe? Arla? One of you grab the child."
The Chronicler |
At the end of the tunnel is a large room. A kobold sits upon a curious throne, fashioned from the body of a giant centipede. He is a large kobold and there is a spiked crown atop his head. Two torches burn on either side of his throne and two other kobolds stand menacingly before the throne, well armed and armored. The kobold leans forward as the party enters the room and opens his arms in greetings.
"Greetings pale skin ones," says the kobold king, "well have you done to make it this far. And now I honor your courage. You may submit yourself to my priest who will cut out your hearts for me to consume into my self, thus giving you a place in my august dynasty."
The kobold seems quite sincere in his offer. There is chanting coming from a passage to the right of the party.
Chloe "Clover" Verjust |
Chloe looks at Rall like he's crazy. But rather than contradict the possible distraction he's creating, she takes advantage of it to peer around the chamber for any sign of the child or Tynan.
Then, she readies an action to cast a spell at the first sign of combat.
The Chronicler |
"Very good!" says the kobold king to Rall.
"Come forward then that my warriors might bind you."
The two warriors step forward. It is clear that while Rall can approach the two warriors the kobold on the throne is not so foolish as to allow the party near him while still armed. Nevertheless, the kobolds seem to fully expect Rall to lay down his arms and they have expressions on their face that might appear joyful.
Rall Kirnast |
Rall turns the motion of lowering his sword into a wide arc that brings it over his head and back down. He swoops forward as he does this hoping to get the kobold king.

Initiative if that was a surprise round: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Seems the king has gotten to straighten his red carpet a bit. Rall tripped and is considering a lawsuit.
The Chronicler |
"What!" The king shouts.
The guards react almost immediately, bringing their weapons to bear on Rall. The king himself springs up, making it clear that, for a kobold, he's big and muscular.
Kings Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Guards Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Rall acted in a surprise round, taking everyone a little off guard. Round 1 begins as soon as initiative is rolled. If you beat a 10 go ahead and post an action.

If I'm standing in front of the king, am I threatening the space the guards are in?

Initiative check... 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Chloe cries out a warning as Rall gets himself surrounded. Unable to really target the kobold king or his guards with anything specific, she chooses instead to try and bolster her friends with Desna's blessing.
Casting bless to improve everyone's attacks and saves vs. fear by +1.

Bowen rushes the first guard swinging high with his axe and stabbing low with his klar.
The Chronicler |
Bowen swiftly drops one of the kobolds to the floor with a single well placed blow.
The Kobold King hefts a large looking axe (for a kobold) and swings it at Rall. The king swings it two handed and even though he looks strong, the strength of the blow still surprises Rall.
Attack on Rall: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

The other guard also attacks the poor deputy.
Attack on Rall: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Both weapons hit. Rall needs to make a fortitude save.

Where in this 42 pages does it remind me how to spend an action point?
Check the OOC discussion thread...
Even if you can't save yourself, spend as many action points as you can to improve your attack roll and then spend a hero point to make it an automatic critical. ;-)

Oh, pooh. I just figured ... none of that mattered because my con was still down from the stirges. The kobold king got me with the 13 points of damage. hehhehe. There's nothing I can really do, action points or no, is there?
Rall Kirnast |
Didn't we rest another day somewhere in all this time and you would have recovered another point of ability damage?
I think I took 4 con damage from the stirges and got one back when we rested. We didn't rest two days since the stirges, did we? Nope, I think Rall is down.
The Chronicler |
If you have a hero point you can use that to keep Rall on his feet with 1 hit point and then use your action point to try and increase your attack. I'll assume that this is what you do as it seems the only real option to passing out.
Rall is clobbered by the kobold king's assault but he somehow manages to keep his feet, and with a rather impressive bit of twisting and footwork he plants himself next to the other kobold guard and sinks in his blade. The guard drops to the ground, his life draining from him from his wound.
Arla and Ash both manuever themselves on the other side of the kobold king, and though they don't actually attack, they provide flanking opportunities for both Bowen and Rall.
Chloe "Clover" Verjust |
With Rall falling away from the battle and seeing the kobold king surrounded by her friends, Chloe throws herself into the battle with fervor. The blade of her scimitar ripples with arcane energy in the hopes of ending the monster's life as quickly as possible.
Melee attack with scimitar, modified by bless and flanking bonus... 1d20 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 1 + 2 = 21

EDIT: I'd also like to spend the hero point for an automatic critical, if I can...

The Chronicler |
Bowen and Chloe, between them, manage to clobber and slice the kobold king, sending him to the floor before he can attack Rall again...
Rall has 1 hit point, all the hero points are gone,...
The chanting continues from the corridor going out of the room's eastern edge. There is a suggestion of flames flickering at the end of the cavernous tunnel.
Suddenly there is a tremendous scream from that direction.
Rall Kirnast |
"Rall do we have any of those potions left for you to try? You really aren't looking good."
Bowen moves into the next room ready for more danger.
"I'll be okay," Ralls squeaks. "Go with Chloe."
Rall begins to search the corpses of the kobolds.
