Bowen Quaid |

Balance
1d20+2=12
Bowen rises to his feet trying not to think of the slime that covers his back side.

Chloe "Clover" Verjust |

Chloe summons her arcane energy to empower her scimitar once again, hoping to end the toad's life with Arla's help.
Melee attack with scimitar using Arcane Strike... 1d20+2 = 19 to hit
Damage... 1d6+2+1 = 5 hp

Rall Kirnast |

The Chronicler |

Arla, Chloe and Rall all surround the toad and as it manages to shake off Ash, they pierce it through, their combined attacks ending its life.
Bowen stands up just as the kobold raises his crossbow and once more fires - this time at the ranger, standing lone and slime covered.
Crossbow at Bowen: (1d20+7=27)
Confirm threat: (1d20+7=26)
Damage: (2d8+2=15)
Bowen, caught off guard can do nothing and then there is a crossbow bolt in him.
Rall needs to make another fortitude save. We are back to Arla and Ash and then the new round.

Rall Kirnast |

Arla Kalandras |

Nothing I can do to help Bowen unfortunately - just wasn't sure if he needed stabilised or not
"Bowen!" Arla yells over the chaos as she sees the ranger struck by the crossbow bolt. Realising that the kobold needs to be dealt with as swiftly as possible, the druid spins with a scowl to face the little creature and darts over to confront it.
Balance checks: Arla 1d20+2 = 21, Ash: 1d20+2 = 8
Unfortunately, Ash slips on some of the dead toad's slime and skids astray...
..as does Arla's spear.
IC really doesn't seem to like me much these days :(

Chloe "Clover" Verjust |

Chloe tries to close on the crossbow-wielding kobold as well, but finds herself tripped up by the skidding Ash.
Balance check... 1d20+2 = 4

Rall Kirnast |

Whoops. Sorry. Didn't realize I was up.
1d20+3=16, 1d8+2=5, (Fortitude) 1d20=10
Forgot to reduce my strength bonuses. This should be 15 to hit and 4 damage.
Rall, disgusted and nauseous, attacks the kobold.

The Chronicler |

Rall's attack is thwarted by the kobold's armor. Meanwhile the kobold drops his crossbow onto the ground and draws a handaxe which he swings viciously towards the deputy.
Reflex Save: (1d20+6=17)
Axe Attack at Rall: (1d20+4=24)
Confirm threat: (1d20+4=24)
Damage: (1d3+1d3=4) (+2x2=+4 for favored enemy)
The kobold keeps his footing and the blow is well placed. Rall takes 8 points of damage.
This is one lucky or talented kobold.
Meanwhile Rall continues to feel sicker and weaker. (Another -2 to strength; One more round of saves and thats as bad as the poison will get.)

The Chronicler |

Arla and Ash are up and then the next round.
And on checking - that damage is enough to drop Rall isn't it?

Chloe "Clover" Verjust |

I'll go ahead and post Chloe's next action, because...
1) I'm going to be a bit tied down in the coming days in terms of posting frequency, and...
2) She would take this action regardless of what Arla and Ash do...
Seeing the success the kobold has had against both Bowen and Rall, Chloe calls upon Desna's aid to bolster everyone.
Channel positive energy... 1d6 = 3 hp
Chloe also uses her Selective Channeling feat to exclude the kobold, but that should grant 3 hp back to everyone, including Ash if he's wounded. Does it also automatically stabilize Rall?
Lastly, I completely agree this adventure is not for beginners. It's also very frustrating to have virtually every encounter (or maybe, every other encounter) deplete so much of the PCs' resources and yet we're under such an in-story time-crunch to try and save the kids. I respect the entertainment value of Logue's adventures, but this one is far too deadly/challenging for what the PCs are asked to do. And that strips the fun out of the roleplay and makes this thing far more tactical and rollplay-oriented (for me, at least).
But that's just my two-cents,
--Neil

Arla Kalandras |

Ouch..
Frantic now, the druid stabs at the kobold, attempting to bring him down before he can do more harm. Ash, managing to scramble back to the fight again, also lunges in to attack.
Unfortunately, the slippery floors seems to still be affecting the pair, as neither can land a hit on the little creature.
Ash's balance check: 1d20+2 = 13 (Accidentally typed 1d20+1 instead of +2 into IC - have corrected it here
Arla's attack: 1d20+2 = 12
Ash's attack: 1d20+3 = 6
...This fight really isn't going well. :(

Chloe "Clover" Verjust |

And if we're having this much trouble with this guy, imagine what it would be like trying to face the Kobold King after having used up most of our spells and healing before we even got to him. That's what puts this adventure's encounters at odds with the plot of needing to push through everything in order to save the kids. It's just a total meat grinder. And that's assuming the players don't have a run of bad luck. :-[

Rall Kirnast |

Rall will use his hero point to stay at 1 hp.
I'm on the road a bit the next couple days so I'm posting my next attack as well.
Rall's next attack, assuming he lives long enough:
Rall, in a last desperate surge of adrenaline, throws himself, longsword first, at the kobold.
1d20+3, 1d8+2=[19, 3], [8, 2]
Confirm Crit:
1d20+3=8, 1d8+2=4 No love.

Chloe "Clover" Verjust |

Everybody's surrounding him except for Chloe. So that's you, Rall, Arla, and Ash. I think he's bound to be flanked by someone in all those squares. :-)
Also, FYI...Chloe's going to have to wait until next round to take her next action. But it'll be casting daze (DC 13) while staying out of the way. That way, maybe we can slow the little fighter down and keep him from further attacks. We'll worry about burning more healing resources once this encounter is done.

The Chronicler |

I forgot about the channel energy above.
Chloe calls upon higher powers and channels positive energy through her holy symbol, controlling it tightly as it tries to burst forth so that only her friends are touched.
Each of them feels just a little stronger.
Kobold attacks Rall: (1d20+3=13)
The kobold, sensing a potential turn in the battle, becomes just a little more cautious and that caution serves him poorly, for his attack comes short this time of opening up Rall's belly.
Back to Arla and Ash and then everyone else.

Chloe "Clover" Verjust |

"Thank, Desna!" Chloe exclaims dropping her hand and allowing the arcane energy she was about to hurl at the kobold to diminish.
"Is it just me...or are these things incredibly resilient and dangerous?" she asks, "Not your average kobolds, I think. Is everyone okay? Rall? You don't look too good. Maybe you should sit down for a bit?"

Rall Kirnast |

"I think ... I should stay here and guard our exit," says Rall on the verge of passing out.
Sorry for my absence the last few days. Nerrat and I needed to go on a roadtrip and the public library we used for Internet access blocked Paizo with its "child safety" filter. When we got back, Paizo was offline.

Chloe "Clover" Verjust |

"I don't know how much further we can go," Chloe worries as she checks on Rall and Bowen's injuries, "Desna can only favor us so much before our luck runs out, I'm afraid. Let's hope it lasts a little longer."
She helps Bowen remove the kobold's crossbow bolt and then offers up another prayer to her goddess.
Channel positive energy again... 1d6 = 6 hp

Rall Kirnast |

Bowen lets out a small cry with the removal of the bolt then tucks it away in his pack as a reminder.
"I don't know if I feel right leaving you alone here Rall, but I'm beginning to lose hope in this trip myself."
Rall, bolstered by the positive energy, pulls himself to his feet, "How much further ...?"
I think I'm at 7 hp.

Chloe "Clover" Verjust |

"Wait...wait..." Chloe advises, "Before we all just go blundering right into the next deadly trap, why don't we take stock and rest a bit. Some of you guys don't look well enough to continue."
Chloe's okay. But what's the hit point "meter of life" indicate for Rall and Bowen? I think that last burst of healing has Arla at full. Probably Ash, too. Bowen may be back to half-strength. Same goes for Rall? Should I hit everyone with another burst or save it?

Chloe "Clover" Verjust |

Chloe peers at the bottle for a second.
Appraise check... 1d20+5 = 6
"I got nothing..." she shakes her head, "It's probably either poison, like what they've been putting on their weapons. Or, something they figured would help them. Maybe a healing potion. Maybe not."
Chloe can't do much to assist anyway. She doesn't have detect magic prepared.

Arla Kalandras |

Arla examines the bottle carefully for a moment. "Hm.. I wonder if there's magic involved? It's a strange colour.." She then waves a hand over the bottle and mutters a few words.
Arla will try casting detect magic on it. Don't think she'll be able to get very far though - she can tell if there's magic around, but due to a distinct lack of spellcraft, she's unlikely to be able to tell what it is :D

It takes Appraise now, in conjunction with detect magic.
