"No, but I'm getting the sense we should have brought him as well..." Jessa smiles.

"Okay, let me see if I can get this spell straight..." she turns to Kenzo, "Hold still now. I haven't practiced this one in awhile...well, not since I used to have whispered conversations with the boys I used to like back home in Magnimar."

'Mensagem-sussurro!' Jessa whispers as she cups her hands to her mouth and then points to Kenzo, "That ought to do it!" She realizes that last bit might have sounded a little loud to the monk's ears, so she tries a little more softly. "That ought to do it," she smiles.

Casting message on Jessa and Kenzo. Since I can cast this cantrip at will, I can presumably cast it multiple times for everyone in the party...but any replies would probably only reach my ears...not everyone else.

Male Human of the Shoanti Shriikirri-Quah Tribe Barbarian 3

Mitnal takes the enlightened stone out of his pouch again and looks at it fascination and then puts it back into his pouch. Then he hears his name somewhere in the endless stream of speech that seems to pour out of Jeslara and perks up his ears. "Dagger. Got it. Hit Whatzit with the dagger."

'Was that so hard? I am so much more succinct,' he thinks to himself.

The spell is cast. Any more plans before continuing on?

Nothing more from me. Though I will note that I'm bringing Blackwing with us this time. He'll stay with Jessa to help warn or defend her, as necessary.

ready to go here

as ready as i'll ever be.

What is your marching order? What portion of the complex do you want to head for first? And roll perception checks.

Male Human Fighter 1

As usual my head is somewhere else entirely
perception (1d20=2)

i can head first if nobody else wants to, but kenzo or somebody maybe ought to be up there as well

Male Human of the Shoanti Shriikirri-Quah Tribe Barbarian 3

Mitnal will go where he's told but assumes he's up front unless someone tells him otherwise.

Since we put the message spell on Kenzo, he'll be our scout up front...and able to whisper back anything he might see or hear to Jessa. He can stay about 10 feet or so ahead of us. Then, Eugen and Mitnal side-by-side...followed by Gyorgy and Jessa side-by-side.

Perception... 1d20+5 = 7

"Let's head back to that strange temple and the well," Jessa suggests, "Even if we don't find the quasit there, maybe we can gain an advantage by learning everything we can about the well and prevent her from using it to summon more of those monsters to defend her."

As the party moves carefully through the tunnels and then into the complex of halls, everything seems quiet and deserted.

But not everything is as it was.

In the room with the statue of the angry woman, there are some fairly fresh apple cores as well as a strong pungent odor, similar in nature to week old cat urine, though much stronger.

"It's been outside. Damn!"

I narrow my eyes; "Hold steady for a moment my friends."

I look across the passageway and leavings as I cast detect magic

Nothing in the room radiates magic.

"Sorry, my friends, just being cautious. I can't sense any magic directly ahead; which is probably a good thing."

I waved everybody onwards.

"Still...whew!" Jessa waves her hand at the pungent odor, "If I'm going to explore this place and whatever secrets it holds, I could do without that smell!"

"Propeus ara" she announces with a wave of her hand, "There, that's a little better..."

OOC: Casting prestidigitation to clear the air a bit. ;-D

'Somebody's never skinned an auroch,' Mitnal thinks as he continues onward.

There are fish heads in the hallway south of the statue.

When the party makes it through the halls to the sanctuary, the doors into the sanctuary are closed.

"Sealed," Jessa whispers to the others, "Gyorgy? Do you detect any wards she may have left behind?"

I cast detect magic again, across the entrance. If I detect anything I'll concentrate.

The doors are not radiating magic, nor do they appear locked, just closed.

Male Human of the Shoanti Shriikirri-Quah Tribe Barbarian 3

"Pssst," whispers Mitnal. "Open the doors. Oh, and, pssst, why are we whispering?"

"So the quasit won't hear us," Jessa explains, "It could be invisible and watching us..."

Then she whispers ahead for Kenzo's sake. "Go ahead and open the doors," she tells him, "Gyorgy says they're not magical." Or, at least, I'm assuming he does.

"If it is watching us, then wouldn't it just be watching us whisper?" Mitnal says before remembering Jessa is smarter than him. "Never mind. I'll be quiet now."

The doors remain close, waiting for a brave volunteer to shove them open.

Heeding Jessa's request, Kenzo opens the doors as quietly as the ages-old iron will allow.

OOC: Thought I'd keep things moving in Bill's absence.

Male Human Ki Mystic Monk 4

Kenzo opens the door just enough to slip inside, stepping to the side in an attempt to conceal himself in any shadows.

Thanks, Spicer. Merry Christmas, everyone. I hope Santa was good to ya'll.

Kenzo wrote:

Spoiler:
Santa was very good to us this year :) I got the family a Wii. My wife got me a wireless router and talked me into switching over to high speed internet. My daughters pooled their money and got me an ipod. The new edition meant that we had something like twenty new 3e gaming books between what the kids got me and I got them. Other loot of interest to me (though not necessarily given to me) included a kitchenaide mixer and attachments, various novels, hand held sudoku games, a karaoke system, a Critical fumble deck, new socket wrenches, 10 days in Africa, Yetisburg, and sundry other little toys (the paizo d20 is a very nice die). And even better, the day went smoothly and our travels the day after went well. All in all a good holiday. Hope everyone else's was just as good.

Now back to the narrative. :)

As soon as Kenzo sticks his head through the door, the room beyond appears at first exactly as it was left. The two pools are still there, the one atop the stage at the back of the room is still glowing.

Then as Kenzo slides into the room, he realizes that it is not empty. There are goblins, four of them, on each side of the room, flanking the door (two to a side). They are carrying javelins and dog slicers and as Kenzo sees them, he realizes that hiding is out of the question.

"Get him boys!" shrieks the invisible quasit from somewhere near the ceiling.

Initiative and initial actions? The goblins are going to launch their javelins at any target they see (currently Kenzo).

"Frakk," Kenzo mutters as he quickly steps back through the door, slamming it shut behind him. Forgetting Jessa's spell, he turns his head and yells, "goblins!"

Male Human of the Shoanti Shriikirri-Quah Tribe Barbarian 3

"Goblins!" Mitnal repeats joyfully. Mitnal tightens his grip on his warhammer.

"Goblins?!" Jessa seems surprised, but then considers she really shouldn't be given that the quasit's tunnels had been used by such creatures to invade Sandpoint.

"Blast! I don't think I prepared anything to deal with more of those foul things!" she complains as she readies herself for the first surge of enemies to come through the door.

Blackwing squawks in agreement, and flaps his wings in agitation from his perch upon her shoulder.

'Oh well,' Jessa shares her thoughts with the raven, 'At least we brought along Mitnal. He seems pretty good at fighting goblins...'

OOC: Jessa's action is to ready an action to cast a spell on any goblin that emerges from the temple doors who isn't immediately cut down by one of the big, burly warrior-guys.

Male Human Ki Mystic Monk 4

Wow, Wicht, Santa was very generous. You must have been very good this year. BTW, when you get a chance, I'd like to hear your thoughts on 4e in the discussion thread.

"What, oh, hang on..."

I curse under my breath and then swiftly lay a mage armour spell over Kenzo.

I then step back toward Jessa; "You next."

Someone can roll Eugen's initiative if you want and he doesn't. I think he may be traveling from WV to Boston today.

Male Human Ki Mystic Monk 4

Kenzo shivers as Gyorgy's spell falls over him. "I like your friend, Jessa," Kenzo says with a grin and his back against the door. He looks like I just said, "Free beer." Looking at the others, he says, "Well, should we oblige them?"

Eugen: Initiative - 25
Gyorgy: Initiative - 18 - Cast Mage Armor
Goblins: Initiative - 18
Mitnal: Initiative - 17
Jessa: Initiative - 16 readies self to cast a spell
Erylium: Initiative - 7

As Kenzo steps back and swiftly slams the door shut, the goblins within shriek in delight. There is a sound suggesting that a couple of them threw their javelins at the closed doors just for the fun of it.

The voice of the quasit within rises and falls as well, suggesting that she is casting spells even as she shrieks.

I cat mage armour on Jessa and step to the back.

Female Human Wizard (Diviner) 2 / Cleric 1 of Sivhana

"Through the doors!" Jessa shouts, "While the goblins have parted with their javelins and before that quasit can prepare anything worse for us!"

She waits for Kenzo, Mitnal, and Eugen to press onward, readying a charm to stun the first of the ugly creatures to show its face.

Strategy:

Spoiler:
The spellcasters are pretty much in support until the big guys start engaging in melee. But I'm using Jessa's action to once again ready a spell for the first target that presents itself. She's planning on using daze to keep one of them from attacking. She and Gyorgy have put such spells to effective use before. If we can keep stunning them so they can't attack, Mitnal, Eugen, and Kenzo should make short work of them so we can all focus on the quasit again.

Male Human Fighter 1

i'm back today, sorry for the absence!

Male Human of the Shoanti Shriikirri-Quah Tribe Barbarian 3

Opening the door counts as a move action, right? Who's going to open it up?

Mitnal wrote:

Kenzo, Kenzo, he's our man! If he can't do it...well...umm, I guess there's always Gyorgy or Jessa so the rest of you can rush through...

Male Human Ki Mystic Monk 4

Kenzo motions for everyone to flatten against the wall and draws a dagger in a throwing grip before opening the door. Once everyone is ready, he grins and winks at Jessa, yanks the door open and throws his dagger at the first goblin he sees.

Opening the door with one hand and throwing with the other so as to have partial cover from the door.

1d20=15+4=19, 1d4=4+1=5

Male Human Fighter 1

let me know what happened in response to kenzo's move and i'll let you know my actions as soon as i can

Male Human of the Shoanti Shriikirri-Quah Tribe Barbarian 3

If there is at least one goblin visible, Mitnal will rush in and attack. If he can do so without an attack of opportunity, he will rush in, step to the right, and attack to leave a path for whoever is coming up next. Mitnal will focus on the goblins.

1d20+4=13, 1d8+2=5

Kenzo knocks the doors open and his dagger flies from his hand into the throat of a surprised goblin.

There is another goblin within sight, a small furtive looking fellow still gripping his javelin and a buckler. He prepares himself to throw through the once more open door.

Mitnal will be able to charge after the other's before him have acted.
