"Hashek Karema." My eyes roll back for a second and my arms stretch out in a gesture encompassing the entire room.
The immediate threat banished, I drop a detect magic across the room.
"Wow, good work Eugen."
I look pensively at Kenzo but say nothing, aware that I have already healed him with my divine fire today.

Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |

"Well done everyone!" Jessa looks surprised and impressed with Eugen's well-timed blow. She hurries to Kenzo's side to examine his injuries. "We sure could have used Magazin at a time like this..." she notes aloud, "Not that Gyorgy hasn't helped a lot already."
She looks about the room. "Perhaps we should have a look about, but make ready to withdraw and regroup?" she asks, "We've certainly dealt Nualia's plans a significant blow if we've eliminated one of the goblin leaders here at Thistletop. But if we press onward, we might lose someone if we dar face her directly while weakened as we are."

DM Wicht |

Gyorgy's scan of the area for magic reveals that both the chief and his warchanter were wearing magical items.
The chief's well honed dog-slicer has a magical aura about it. Unfortunately, it is, of course, too small for anyone in the group to use with any degree of comfort. The chief also has two undrank potions on his person.
Of more mundane interest is the chief's battered crown and a large key ring on his belt. His breastplate is also of superior quality and it is doubtful that any goblin had a hand in its making.
The female bard has a necklace about her neck and a potion that both register as magical as well.

I put the breastplate and crown to one side: "We can collect these when we leave."
Then I pocket the key ring: "That might come in handy."Finally I gather up the necklace and potions and approach Jessa: "Any idea what kind of magic these possess."
Need to put identify on my spell list...

Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |

I put the breastplate and crown to one side: "We can collect these when we leave."
"We may not get the chance," Jessa remarks, "If another goblin wanders through here, he may try to claim the crown...and breastplate...for himself. Perhaps we can hide it somewhere?"
Then I pocket the key ring: "That might come in handy."
"I wander what it goes to...?" Jessa asks, "Is there a door somewhere that requires a key? Or some kind of strongbox?"
Finally I gather up the necklace and potions and approach Jessa: "Any idea what kind of magic these possess."
"Given enough time, I can prepare a ritual that should tell us," Jessa says with a nod, "But I'll have to study my spellbooks before I'm ready. Do you think we should withdraw until I can?"

Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |

Something about the necklace in Gyorgy's hand draws Jessa's attention. What it is though is hard to say. The necklace looks to be a simple red stone in a silver bell cap, attached to a silver chain.
"Wait..." Jessa says, peering more closely at the necklace.
"This...seems odd," she notes, half talking to herself as well as everyone else, "It's pretty, but...unusual. Definitely magic of some kind. I should probably examine it first."
OOC: If this necklace is what I think it is...we definitely need to pause long enough for Jessa to 'divine' its nature.
How best should we do that? If we pull back across the rope bridge, more goblins could strand us on the other side. (Although we do still have that spellcasting goblin strung up out there.)
If we try and stay on the island, but outside the fort, the goblins could once more barricade the entrance and give us a lot of trouble getting back inside.
And, if we try to stay inside the fort, we'll need to find a defensible position (maybe this throne room if we can still bolt the doors?).
Basically, we should only need enough time for Jessa to prepare detect magic and identify a few times...cast the spell to learn about these magic items...and then reprepare some spells to see us further into Thistletop. According to the Beta rules, it takes an hour to prepare all of a wizard's spells. And it takes a minimum of 15 minutes to prepare a smaller allotment. If Jessa casts identify it will last for 6 rounds and grant her a +10 bonus on Appraise checks to discern each item's properties. She already has a +10 with Appraise as long as Blackwing assists her. And the DC would be 15 + the item's caster level.
Suggestions anyone?

Kenzo |

Kenzo collapses on the ground next to the dead goblin chieftain's body, and examines his injuries as the others look over the bodies of the dead goblins.
"Hey," he calls out half-heartedly, "I think may be we should find a place where we can safely rest a bit. I need to tend to my wounds."

Gyorgy Elberion |

Growing weary of holding out the pendant for Jessa I gi ve it to her and start experimentally sniffing at the potion bottles to see if I can tell what they are.
Can I make an appraise check on these?

DM Wicht |

Gyorgy: You can make an appraise check on things that you have cast detect magic on to see if you can determine what they are from their auras.
Jessa:
As Jessa takes the necklace into her hands, the room is suddenly flooded with positive energy. Wounds knit and each of Jessa's companions feel strangely invigorated. For a moment Jessa's hair crackles with energy and then as suddenly as it manifested, it is gone.
One time heal. All wounds are gone and each party member recieves a +1 morale bonus to rolls for 24 hours. Enjoy.
I will try to get a map up in the next day or so for you guys. Its on my to-do list.

Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |

Jessa covers her mouth as she giggles in delight.
"Oh...now that is a well done trick," she says, smiling as she looks around the room, "Our wounds are but an illusion. Or the healing of them is..."
She contemplates her words for a long moment. "But does it really matter?" she asks aloud, "If we believe strongly enough in anything...that's what becomes real. And I, for one, choose to believe in this..."
She holds the necklace aloft and then slips it around her neck. "I believe this will most definitely help us against Nualia. Perhaps in more ways than simply mending our injuries. But it will take time for me to assess what else this 'necklace' hides."
I'm afraid Jessa's all out of 1st level spells. She needs to stop and reprepare them anyway. That should take an hour...which is still probably more than we can spare right now. Maybe we should press on until we can clear the fort and determine where Nualia and the rest of her minions await?
Note to Wicht: I really like how you worked that in. Perfect. :-D

Gyorgy Elberion |

three appraise checks (1d20+2=9, 1d20+2=7, 1d20+2=12)
Startled by Jessa I nearly drop the potions. Then I recap them quickly and forget about guessing what they are...
"How the, what, um..." I gather myself; "That's some impressive magic, Jessa."
I think we should keep going, pockets of resistance are better for us than a single, erm, rucksack...

Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |

Jessa laughs with delight.
"Yeah, it was me...sort of..." she replies, still examining the necklace and finally placing it around her neck for safekeeping.
She looks past Gyorgy at the rest of the group. "Well, let's see how much more trouble we can bring these goblins."

Kenzo |

Kenzo feels a wave of energy pour over him, and watches, slack-jawed, as his wounds heal before his eyes. Looking up, he notices everyone looking at Jessa, as she looks astonishingly at a necklace in her hand.
"Well done and well timed, Ms. Jessa," he says. "It seems there is more to you than even you know."
Raising to his feet, the young monk stretches his arms high overhead, and then twists a few times to either side before he slashes at the air with his sword a few times.
"Wow, I feel perfectly fine & well rested! Should we move on? Does you all feel as good as I do?"

DM Wicht |

For your viewing pleasure: a little map.
There are four doorways in the throne room, including the doubledoors in the southwall that the party came through.

Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |

"Well...we haven't gone through that one...that one...or that one there..." Jessa notes, pointing out the three other doors leaving the room, "Perhaps we should try the one to the north? It is after all, the direction that first brought us to this island. So, perhaps it leads deeper into Thistletop? And from there...to Nualia?"

Eugen Enescu |

the room on the side meaning not the direction we were heading although my character wouldn't really know if it was a single room or two rooms, and exit or etc.
"aha, this one seems like a possibility!" I attempt to open the door.
does the third door in the room show any signs of being barred?

Gyorgy Elberion |

If these doors can be barred so that people don't come into this room... then maybe we should bar them ourselves? Make sure that nobody can sneak up on us while we search down one pathway."
I look around the group: "What do you think?"

DM Wicht |

The northernmost door on the eastern wall is indeed unbarred (but so is the door on the northern wall.
Opening this door to the east, Eugen sees a room containing a small armory. Weapons (mostly dogslicers and shortbows) hang on the walls and are stacked on the floor. There are also several small goblin sized suits of studded leather armor and a pile of dented shields fill the room. A pair of workbenches stand against the southern wall in the armory, piled with tools and weapons in need of repair.

Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |

"If these doors can be barred so that people don't come into this room... then maybe we should bar them ourselves? Make sure that nobody can sneak up on us while we search down one pathway....What do you think?"
"Sounds like a good idea," Jessa says with a nod, "If nothing else, we should re-bar the main entrance in case more goblins come this way."
She then aids Gyorgy in securing all the doors except the ones Eugen seems interested in exploring. But Blackwing accompanies the warrior, hopping and hovering near him to peek into the room as well. Jessa trusts the bird to alert her if anything dangerous threatens them.

Gyorgy Elberion |

"If we get a chance we should heave all of that goblin kit into the sea."
I look around again: "So, if we've barred those doors... should we investigate the doors we passed over earlier?"

Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |

"If we get a chance we should heave all of that goblin kit into the sea."
"I'd like to do the same," Jessa replies, "Just to make sure it isn't used on anyone from Sandpoint ever again. But it would take quite some time to carry it out of here and dispose of it all. Time we may not have..."
"So, if we've barred those doors...should we investigate the doors we passed over earlier?"
"Not yet," Jessa advises, "I think we should follow Eugen's lead and examine what's behind each of these other doors first. For now, at least we've barred the way behind us and each of these other passages so nothing else can sneak up on us. We should be able to focus our attention only on what lies ahead...for now."

DM Wicht |

The armory is ten feet wide and fifteen feet in length. There are no other obvious exits from the room. On the back wall (northern) of the armory room a lone dog-slicer hangs in a place of honor. Unlike most of the other junk in the room, this particular weapon looks well made, well balanced and crafted from superior steel. A quick search of the room reveals nothing else of obvious value in the room.
The dogslicer on the wall is masterwork.

Eugen Enescu |

"Oooh, cool..." i grab that one for the group to split and look around to see if there's anything else worth taking.
I head back out, "Just an armory guys, nothing much there but I found a... I never thought I'd say this... a really nice dog slicer that we might be able to sell."

Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |

"Hmmmm...you know what?" Jessa says, "Let me see that..."
She takes the dogslicer and then focuses her concentration for a moment to send it spiraling and swinging through the air.
"Do any of you wish to wield this weapon?" she asks, "If not, I think I'd favor turning this against these goblins rather than continuing to sully my dagger with their blood."
OOC: As a Small weapon weighing less than 5 lbs, I think Jessa can wield the dogslicer with her hand of the acolyte ability. It should do the same damage as a dagger (i.e., 1d4), but at least it's masterwork and should grant a +1 bonus to hit. Unless anyone else wants to use it, Jessa can wield it for now and then we can sell it later. But if one of you combat-heavy guys want it, go for it.

Kenzo |

"Good idea," Kenzo says to Gyorgy as he helps bar the various doors. Passing the crown, he picks it up and carries it about, turning it over in his hands as he walks about. He looks in on the armory for only a brief second or two before turning back in to the main room where he waits for the others. Once they're done, he points at the northern door and simply asks, of no one in particular, "Shall we?"

DM Wicht |

The room beyond the northern door is ten feet by twenty feet with no exits but the one door.
There are several rugs, likely horse and dog hide rugs, strewn over the dirt floor of the room. Nailed on the north wall are a plethora of horseshoes, perhaps over a hundred of them. There is a desk shoved into the north-eastern corner, it might once have been a high-quality antique but it looks to have been gnawed, carved on and scratched into almost worthlessness. There is a battered and padded chair next to the desk.
To the west sits a canopied bed covered with silk sheets and sporting a once impressive carved headboard that is now bashed and battered. The bed's sheets are covered with dirt.

Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |

"Well..." Jessa deadpans, "Someone had a horseshoe fetish."
She joins the others in looking around. "Silk sheets, rugs and other 'finery'...according to goblin standards, at least," she says, "Do you think maybe this room belonged to the goblin wearing the crown? If so, it looks like we may have eliminated Thistletop's leader. Or, at least, their leader before Nualia stirred them up."
"Gyorgy? Do you think there's anything useful here?"

Gyorgy Elberion |

"Gyorgy? Do you think there's anything useful here?"
"It depends... how many horses do you own?"
I shrug at the feebleness of my own joke and cast detect magic across the room.
"It is weird though, what humans did he learn this behaviour from? Where did he get the idea that silk sheets and heavy wooden desks were good?"

Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |

"It depends... how many horses do you own?"
"No horses...just one irascible bird," Jessa quips.
"It is weird though, what humans did he learn this behaviour from? Where did he get the idea that silk sheets and heavy wooden desks were good?"
"I'm not sure you have to be human to appreciate those things," Jessa remarks, "Silk is silk." She runs her fingers over the dirty sheets. "I wonder if these are salvageable?" she asks aloud. She pulls them free from the bed and contemplates the magic she has available.
"Propreus-desalle," she intones with a wave of her hand across the fabric.
Casting prestidigitation to clean the soiled silk sheets.
"Hmmm...not bad," she notes, "I wonder what else the goblin chieftain may have around here. Maybe there's something that will let us know where we can find Nualia...or what to expect from her."
"Everyone look around!" she suggests as she begins folding the silk sheets and stuffing them into her pack.
