Beatles: I know the songs, don't have the albums.

I am a decade older than Ross, my generation must have skipped the beatles. I understand Ross decision though, nothing good is being produced nowadays ;>

Dethklok? :P

Oh, there's plenty of good music nowadays. You just need to know where to look. I suggest starting in England with projects involving Jarvis Cocker.

I love the item. It has all kinds of nasty uses. Drop it in a treasure horde and watch the fun!
Unfortunately, without the aforementioned association with the box, i still feel that this is a monster, not an item (but then again, i'm not a judge am I!!) LOL!

Good luck!

The Exchange

Well, y'know, it's evocative, but I'm buggered if I can think of any use for it.

I was gonna joust and tilt with you, saying "freaking out p.c.'s ain't a use?" But your Marqee de Sade or whatever ended up freaky AND useful, so.... ;) I must quit the field in that regard.

How would you use it as a character,

Kewl Item, lots of flavour, But it seems more like a cursed item than anything, not to mention nigh useless.I am a fan of useless items so I was gonna drop one in my (online here at paizo) game, but I wanted to consider first. How would you use it, at best I can think of is as a moving carrier of object (Darkness , Silence , etc) but even t hen its about as useful as "Kick the stone"

So what do you do with it, I've heard lots of "An experianced player will know what to do" and not a whole lot of uses, what makes the creepykitty golem/lich worthkeeping around except for the flavor

L

indestructable action at a distance with a fire and forget creature that is small and has immunities.

The Exchange

Yeah - but what action? It is a cat, basically. No opposable thumbs to carry stuff. Maybe you could tie a Delayed Blast Fireball to its tail, but that's all I've got so far. Presumably (it isn't clear) it also has no INT or WIS score, so it isn't going to think its way out of trouble? I don't mean to be overly critical - it is well described, and I'm glad it went through because the author's country is my favorite so far. But 32 big ones for a cat? As a PC I simply could not justify that expenditure.

I thought as a creature it should have to have a wisdom and charisma score generally wis 10 cha 1 for constructs but i could be wrong.

Most things you could tie to it that would be super kewl (wards and such) can't be used offensively. In which case wouldn't it be just as useful as a rock and mage hand or afore mentioned kick the rock. Perhaps a pixie mount? What would really rock is if this thing could eat corpses and grow bigger (Reset with every death of course), that huge mountain lion with a face that was eat villagers? well its really just a migrus let loose by someone unsuspecting.

If any Judge should read this, can I make some clarifications on the item since this item is 'old'? Or does the below rule apply for old entries as well?

"Contestants are prohibited from posting in their own entry threads
beyond asking for feedback and requesting your vote. Such discussion
may not add to, expand upon, or clarify the content of the
submission. Doing so may result in disqualification, in the sole
discretion of the judges and/or Paizo."

I'm pretty sure the rule only applies to entries in a round that's currently open for voting. Since there was no public vote on round 1, you can pretty much say what you like here. And once voting closes for round 2, I expect you'll be able to comment more freely on your round 2 entry.

Rinse and repeat for future rounds.

Right-O, thanks Gary

The Migrus was never really intended for the PCs to create, in fact I was uncomfortable assigning a price to it at all(it was mandatory). As for it's uses, drop it in the party's lap and see what they make of it. Just remember that while it obeys the commands of its owner it takes a very literal and brutal approach to problem solving.

A couple suggestions to mull over since I ran it in a campaign and it was continually referred too over the course of the game. The group used it to set off lethal traps, an impromptu torch, scare the local peasants, test the effects of a Maggot golem, etc - also I used it for a couple of plot hooks. It is pretty easy to have the Migrus drag home some dread trophy one evening, or come back half digested after some horror living in the walls of the inn got to it. Likewise you could simply have the Migrus get the party into trouble and they have to try to get rid of the thing.

For my games, it's going to have to be a monkey. this thing just has "evil monkey" written all over it for me.

I'm also going to have to either require it's construction to need something foul (like killing a child or somesuch) or make it a minor artificfact. I like one or two. At any price, I hate the idea of a dozen.

And my players can destroy armies with an indestructable cat golem, so I need to keep them rare.

Good one Dungeon Grrrl, now I am thinking of a construct version of the little monkey 'Jack' from Pirates of the Carribean. This item also caught my attention. Its not powerful or PC boosting. The benefits it give are completely commesurate to how creatively your players utilize it. Just for that reason alone I think it needs the solid price it is at.

Samuel, I absolutely love this item. Much like Clark I have been thinking of it at odd times...I have geckos you see...thoughts of little mummified Golem Geckos are dancing in my head.

I am going with Watcher.

This is a creature not a wondrous item.

I would argue that this item is just as much a magical item as a Figurine of Wondrous Power. In fact without more detailed mechanics that is essentially what it is - if not on the lower end of the power curve (generally speaking).

I plugged the migrus locker into my game the other day, in the possession of a swamp hag. The PCs have encountered what appeared to be an undead cat twice now; they're not sure what to make of it. Eventually, they'll run into the owner of the migrus and things could get ugly.

I just dropped ol' Migrus into my game -- in the possesion of a True Necromancer and his boat full of zombies. My players are thouroughly creeped out.

They're 6th level which would seem to be a bit low by the gp cost of the item, but if it happens to wind up in the players' hands, I'm fine with it.

Right on. Cool! I couldn't hang out that long on THAT item!!!

I was incredibly sad that use of RPG Superstar 2008 material was not allowed in the last few rounds of 2009 competition.

The creep factor and uniqueness of this item is amazing.

Glad you liked it. I did submit but did not get in this time - congrats btw Matt.

I am currently creating a setting for a cousin who shall be in Iraq soon. If you wish to take a look, here ya go:

This just got opened in my game. I put it in 3 months or more ago, but it was wrapped in anti-magic chains, with a DC 40 lock that the "locksmith" rogue had to work up to opening (now level 10). Inside is a "V udra ni C at- Mo nke y" (separating to hinder searching (he already admitted he looking for a picture of this thing)).

Thanks!

The rogue dandy, Costello, in my Council of Thieves game is now cavorting around Westcrown with his Migrus herking and jerking on a leash behind him (kind of a disgusting version of a Westcrown Paris Hilton).

All his team members are freaked out and waiting for the hammer to fall, especially after seeing the Migrus's creepy smile.

In response to some of the old posts above I just wanted to point out how much fun I'm having with this item and how to use it in interesting ways (as a DM):

1. With the caveat that the Migrus is old and has a creepy alien intelligence and has had many masters - you can only imagine all the arcane knowledge locked away inside those smiling little eyes. But how do you communicate with the thing?

side note: I think it's okay for detect magic not to give you every detail regarding powerful or old or alien magics. Mystery is good, I think - never let your PCs get too comfortable.

2. The Aspis Consortium is VERY interested in an item this old and this strange - and so is The Pathfinder society. Both organizations have taken notice and are watching Costello, one with possible violence in mind.

3. The Migrus has its own agenda. Just like The One Ring, it has a corrupting influence - not like a curse but in the sense that it will always fulfill its orders in the most horrific of ways...Costello will be implicated in anything his pet does.

4. The Migrus itself has regenerative powers that some powerful people interested in immortality would be equally interested in this thing. Specifically, an ensouled flesh golem has been searching for the Migrus for years just for the purpose of studying how it can die and return time and time again. Costello may soon meet this ancient being.

And there you have it! Fun in a box!

Yeah, this one is much more flavorful than crunchy. Speaking as a judge, I am very excited to see what the mind of this author can put forth in the next (and perhaps forthcoming) rounds.

Is it just me, or is this philosophy less prominent these days in the Superstar lineups?

I ask because it seems like "good rules crunch" gets pushed way above "concept" nowadays. Maybe the Migrus was just that good, though—good enough to be an exception to prove the "rules focus" rule.
