Portal Chronicles - An Age of Worms Campaign

Liberty's Edge

Let me start with a bit of background on the game. This is a weekly game played Tuesday nights for about 3 Hours. It's also of note that this is the first time I am playing with this group. I'm starting this Journal well into things. Thats because up till this point, it was a fairly straight forward Age of Worms Campaign. I say that because this is the second time I've run the AoW. Or, at least the Whispering Cairn, since my last group didn't get much further before jumping... no, leaping off the path. But I digress.

Party as it is consists of:
Ironhound - Dwarven monk exiled from his ancestral home.
Duri - Cleric of Hieronious, student of the Diamond Lake Chapel.
"Wraith" - A rogue who seeks to leave this retched town.
Talc - a student of Alluston focusing on the art of Necromancy, and a worshiper of Wee-Jas.
Gracknor - Half-Orc Barbarian looking for a quick buck.

The story so far:
The party formed to explore the Whispering Cairn. So far there were a few close calls, but they were able to explore most of it until they ran into Alhister Land, a ghost with a deal. The deal was for the party to bury him with his family, and He'll unlock the door leading forward. So last week the party traveled to the Land farmstead to find an Owlbear (which they killed), recently emptied graves, and an arm with a tattoo on it. They know their next task is to recover the missing bodies to put the Ghost at ease. So they return to town for answers. Last week Wraith also noticed an Elven woman checking out Gracknor's silver seeker ring he insisted on wearing despite the parties warnings.

Note: Some of the names might be spelled wrong. I'll fix them later when I have my notes handy. Also, next adventure later tonight.

Liberty's Edge

As they return to town the party scatters for maximum efficiency.

Wraith and Graknor head to the Ferrel Dog. There Graknor hits the sauce, while Wraith notices the Elf from the previous day slipping out the door.

Ironhound tries to find a home for the baby Owlbear. First he tries the monastery, then the Bronzewood lodge. The lodge gives him a bit more of a useful answer, but due to language problems he's not sure of the druid's true intent.

Talc first headed to the graveyard to talk to the priests of Weejas. They were horrified to find there are grave robbers about, and quickly did what they could for Talc. A few spells later Talc found out the offenders were still in town. They still didn't know who, but town isn't too big. With that he headed over to his master Alluston's.

Duri went to Alluston first. He explained the story about what they found and who was there. Alluston, taking all the info in, did not like the fact that there could be a necromancer other than Talc in town (since he knows Talc is not evil... but many are). He agreed to cast some spells, but needed time to prepare them.

So the party met up at the Ferrel Dog. There, they all share tales while the baby owlbear cries in the corner. Duri and Talc notice that across the bar there is a half-orc with the same tattoo as the arm they found. But before they can act on this information three walk into the bar. After a quick survey the elf points towards the party. They walk over and the largest of the three introduces himself "I am Auric, Champion of the free city. You seem to have a ring that does not belong to you. Tell me where you found it." Graknor and Auric bark back and forth at each other until Auric says "Very well, then I challenge you to a fist fight, winner ..." but before he could finish Graknor flips the table and pulls out his sword. Auric goes two rounds with just his fists, backing towards the door. Graknor slices at the champ with precision, forcing Auric to draw his own sword. A round later Auric is backing off "I yield, I do not want to fight with swords" as he drinks a potion. But it is too little too late as Graknor cuts him down. Meanwhile the party and Auric's companions are heading for the door. Wraith uses this time to stab at Auric's wizard companion, while Talc casts a spell on the Elf. This causes the wizard to cast invisibility and the Elf to leap out a nearby window as everyone looks in horror as Graknor finishes Auric off.

As the dust settled, Duri and Ironhound stood speechless while Graknor took Auric's belt. Wraith and Talc looked for the other two, but they were long gone. The party doesn't know what to say, except for Graknor "Drink now!"
