As a DM running D0 as part of free RPG day, I was allowed to thumb through it when it came in today at my FLGS and having looked at all of the free RPG day stuff - I think that you may be raising the bar for them for next year. Hollow's Last Hope is Beautiful! that art is great, same with the layout. and the little pathfinder chronicles blurb made me smile. Very nice on the eyes. My one question - will we be seeing more Tatzlwyrms (no idea if I spelled that right) in future gamemastery/pathfinder?

By all means, please let us know how that goes!
My one question - will we be seeing more Tatzlwyrms (no idea if I spelled that right) in future gamemastery/pathfinder?
I'll let somebody else answer that, 'cause I have no idea.

You can betcha! Tatzlwyrms and lots more. Just check out the Pathfinder Cryptozoology discussion over here.

Glad you liked it. As Vic said, be sure to let us know how it runs this weekend. As for more Tatzlwyrms, the Pathfinder folks are looking into all sorts of crytozoological creatures (as Wes mentioned). As for more powerful versions of this particular beastie.. I think that is pretty much certain.

What's a tatzlwyrm? What other creatures appear in this module? I'm wondering whether it will fit smoothly into my current campaign, which, coincidentally, currently is at level 1 and involves finding a cure for a deadly plague.
Also, does the adventure primarily take place in a forest?
I'd be grateful if someone would share some spoilers... thanks!

I'm looking forward to this, but I'm pretty frustrated right now. I drove to 3 FLGS today in hopes of scoring one. Two had specifically told me they would have them and did not. One said he had missed the cutoff by 2 days and was told he couldn't get anything. The other said, "What free gaming day?". After spending 2 hours and over 40 miles of driving I am extremely cranky.
I really didn't want just the pdf and I also don't want to pay for something I thought I was getting for free but have already paid for with gas.[/rant]

Okay so I rushed out (and way across town) this morning and picked up D0: Hollow's Last Hope. I have to say that this is one of the highest quality modules I've ever had my hands on. In addition to the pretty full color layout I really like the statblock, trap and magic item layouts.
I'm looking forward to running this as a one shot (currently running SCAP) and as a preview of the Pathfinder campaign I'll be running next. I'll let you know how it goes.

While I'm glad for you and hope you enjoy it immensely, this just makes me more frustrated that I couldn't get mine. I was so excited. :(

Locke, can you tell a fellow DM a bit more about the creatures and locations in the story (in spoilers, of course)?

Well, I stopped by my FLGS to grab my copy. Haven't had time to read through it in detail (have to save that for after work), but three first inpressions:

cthughua |

I got it too! My FLGS was only allowing 2 modules per customer so D0 was one of my picks (the free WFRP adventure was my other FYI).
All I can say is: Absolutely amazing! High weight, high gloss paper and fabulous art and a simple yet engaging plot! Everything you could want from a first level adventure. If this is any indication of what future Game Mastery modules will be (and I think that is the point) then I am very pleased to have subscribe to them and know they will not disappoint.

D'oh! You know, in all of our blogs and posts supporting Free RPG Day, we forgot to encourage folks to *buy* some stuff when they get their free item. If retailers see that today's sales are over the top, they're more likely to sign up next year!
<heh heh> I was the guy who turned my FLGS on to Free RPG Day. When I stopped by at 12:30, the owner greeted me by pointing out the sales directly tied to the event from people who'd never been to the store before.

I got a gift cert for father's day and I intentionally held out on buying Expedition to Undermountain (and a new box of AT-43 figs) so that I could support Free RPG day. Hopefully my contribution helps.
For what it is worth my FLGS was going the extra mile and putting up some of their own stock for free as well, a lot of great OGL content out there for free as well as a few packs of CCG and CMG stuff.

My "F"LGS was already "out of it" 10 minutes after they opened, mind you htere was NO one there just the working, which makes we want to call Bull$#!& since it takes more time then that to get in out out of Old Towne.
Half Expect that they are selling them on Ebay
That or they're keeping them. Never doubt that possibility.

Sorry I would have posted sooner but saddly I had to work.
According to the sidebar in the book the tatzlwyrm (or "clawed worm" in German) is of Austrian, Bavarian and Swiss decent--related to the lindwurm or linnorm.
I hope that helps. I know it's not alot but I haven't read much of the book yet and I'm leary of giving away too many of the books surprises even under spoilers.

I have to agree- the book is absolutely beautiful. It has some of the highest production value I've seen in a standard module. Haven't read it yet, but looking forward to it. :)

![]() |

I agree with what everyone else here has said - the production values for this adventure were extremely impressive, especially when compared to the other companies' offerings. Kudos to everyone at Paizo! This adventure has certainly increased the chances that I'll be picking up more of the GameMastery line in the future.

I'll chime in as well. I knew I wanted to look this over, as I am truly tempted by the Pathfinder series.
If the Pathfinder is half the quality of this little intro module, we'll be in for truly great gaming this year.
I want to also sing praises for the stat block layout. Love it. Abso-positively love it. Easy to find the stats I need, without fumbling for them.
Now if your player's guides are as good as Malhavoc's... I'll be a subscriber for life.

The store was out of D0 by the time I arrived. GRRRR!!! D0 is the ONLY reason I went. But two other items caught my eye, so I took them (the worker told me to take as many as I wanted) and started to leave. The worker then gestured toward the rest of the store and said, "Aren't you going to buy anything?" I replied, "I've spent TONS of money in this store already, and today I'm just leaving."
Let me make a point here: If I have to buy something, then it is NOT free!
Now a question: Who foots the bill for free RPG day, the stores or the publishers?
???

Now a question: Who foots the bill for free RPG day, the stores or the publishers?
Both. According to the website, the Game Store pays for the S/H of the package. The Game Publisher obviously pays for the product.
As a former owner of a local game store, there's more cost than just the purchase of the product. If you have something like a Fee Game Day being promoted, you're going to stock up on product so that interested people will at the least look around.
Additionally, they may take the time to set up a runthrough of the game (I know we did when TSR put out their version). Therefore, time and money on the merchant's part should also be considered.
Even if you're not going to spend money, at least look around. There may be other people that are new to the genre that could always use a person that knows the system. One less CCG player is a boon to RPGs : )

I know that the reason for Free RPG Day was to attract more bussiness to the shops holding the event and promote the products being given away. That being said, the store that I happned to go to was more interested in holding the Warhammer league than promote the products being given away. The other thing that I found was that the Gameastery D0: Hollow's Last Hope was not even out for anyone to get, I had to ask the clerk for it spacifically and he went into the box behind the counter and pulled one out and gave it to me. They still didn't put any of the rest out to be given away. I really don't like to complain and I don't want to see something like Free RPG Day to not go on but if the store dosn't want to promote the thing let another store in town have it and promote gaming.
P.S. I purchase most of my Paizo prducts from them along with other gaming supplies. Now I will be aking another store in town to carry more of your products and hope that they will be able to put on Free RPG Day next year and maby I can GM the Gamemastery module for the event.

That helps alot, Locke... thanks for taking the time to post that info! I've ordered the print version of the module, and from what you've told me, I think it should fit in very well with my current campaign... perfect timing!

Unfotunately, it's up to the store to police themselves. Face it, what do you think would get people's attention? A bunch of guys sitting around a table for 4 hours, or shiney painted miniatures and dice rolling on an open table? Warhammer's a cash cow, if you can get people into it. D&D? Three little books, only the PH is needed.
To truely do a RPG Day, you need the space and the "privacy". You're better off doing a 30 minute demo and passing out "prizes" than running a 2 hour adventure where 4-6 players are there. That requires at least 4 GMs if you cycle on a 30 minute round (5 really, don't foreget breaks) and just as many rooms/tabls (which can get loud if you don't have rooms).
I applaud the effort, but I'm not sure that it'll catch on if you don't have the support it truely needs.
I'll get off my soap box now. : )

Well it got me and my brother into the store that we would have otherwise not bothered with. Since I had already ordered D0 I bypassed picking it up. We did however get some nice intro games (The changling one is interesting). As a nod to the store owner I bought $25 worth of stuff (I almost bought Saga edition too) to show my appreciation that he was hosting this event. But yeah, they had tables of warhammer going on and he said he wasn't really a RPG shop per se. He hopes to change that with some expansion plans.

Awesome!
However, the page sequence seems a little off with the last 4 pages. :-)

I ended up spending about $70 on stuff, impulse buying mostly. Got Gloom, they didn't have the Magic Item Compendium.
D0 rocks. I might start a once a month group just to run these myself. One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is there's very little white space in the module.
I'll look at the pre-gens when I get home.

Is the page order towards the end a bit out of order on the PDF? Pages 15 and 16 were after what I consider the last two pages of the book. Not a big deal to me, I just edited them to the correct order but thought it odd.
I like the layout of things, I dig the new statblock with the tactics section, really helps me to understand how it should go down better. I also really like you the magic items are presented, with a nice physical description in the first half of the description, and the second half being the actual powers.
Must... read... more... before... lunch... over...
