We've put up the cover for D1: Crown of the Kobold King, which features cover art by Matt Cavotta.
(To be honest, it's not *quite* final, but it's very close.)

When I saw this cover yesterday, I went around the editorial bullpen telling my staff that FINALLY we have kobolds that I can take seriously. I have always thought that the old kobolds in D&D were just too pathetic looking to take seriously. But one look at this cover, and I can tell you that guy means business. Brings a smile to this old grognard's face. :)

For or against?
For. Any chance of saving on the shipping with a subscription? Could they be mailed like magazines?
It seems wrong that shipping alone on 12 seperate Gamemastery adventures might come close the price of a subscription to one of the magazines, but of course I don't understand the finer points of the USPS pricing system.

Is it possible that a subscription to these modules will become an option for those of us with remaining issues? If so I will wait to decide.
Pathfinder looks cool but doesn't fit my needs, so I was about to take the store credit. But if you could put together a similar value deal on a subscription to these modules I would go for that in a heartbeat.
And if the quality remains as good as that of Dungeon magazine I would continue my subscription past whatever my credit would earn.

I take it by your question that you would be interested in such a service. Anybody else? For or against?
Strongly in favour. Even more in favour of a combined subscription to both Pathfinder and GameMastery modules, to save on shipping costs.

Are these modules set in the new Pathfinder world, and specifically is "Kobald King"?
Yep indeed. Though, as James J. pointed out elsewhere - the campaign setting is GIGANTICUS!!! Kobold King takes place far away from Varisia (the region where Rise of the Runelords is set).
While these modules are set in the new Paizo campaign world, they are not at all "campaign specific" and the design goal I was given was to make it as Classic and suitable to any DM's game as possible even while exploring new territory. This, and actually all of the moduless from my understanding of them so far, are the best of both worlds - a new campaign setting with its own unique flavor and amazing creative forces at work behind it, but catered to be usable in any generic D&D game. I'm sure someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure this is what all these modules are shooting for.

Now there is a nifty ass idea. Hats off to you sir.

Nic, since you are going to be running this at Origins, I have two questions...
1) how do I get a spot at the table? I will bring you Pett's head on a silver platter (although I don't think you want me dressed as Salome...probably thanks to too much Salami) or whatever else you ask.
2) I've never been to a con so I don't know what the standard conventions are for what kinds of charaters you can use. Can you bring them from home? Use the LG build? Since this is a whole new world that is opening up to us, I'm doubly uncertain.
Thanks, just wanted to get my questions out. Sorry for the ignorance, but it is just that... a complete lack of knowing.

You answered your own question! ;-)

I'm not certain on all the details of the delve event at Origins yet, but as I plan on spending ALL of my time at Origins running this (and I the Paizo Masters are running it too), I'm sure you'll get a chance to play it.
Normally for cons the DM brings pre-gens (saves on any time-consuming confusion about character gening, and it allows the DM to really cater his quick one-off event to the specific PCs he brings to the table), and I'm pretty sure we'll be doing this for the delve too.
Look forward to seeing you there Gav, can't wait to get some game on with you!!! Don't forget Pett's head! :-)

Keep in mind that this is going to cause some logistical problems if you are planning on flying in to the event as the good folks with Homeland Security feel strongly about the transportation of human (presumably) heads.
This means that you will likely have to come up with some strangely elaborate and evil scheme to trap Pett while at the Con itself... and watch out for those meddling kids!

I would be in for a subscription to the Gamemastery Modules. Unfortunatly, I am thinking about going to my FLGS to get them, since they will be loosing my money once Dragon and Dungeon meet their end.
This is also a great idea. Support FLGS! Also, make sure they carry these modules!!! I asked around in Hawai'i and I was shocked by the owners response: "It's OGL, not official, we probably won't carry it." After a long sell, I got a couple of them interested in giving it a shot, but I was really taken aback that they wouldn't have carried them otherwise.
In other words: Speak out. Talk to you local game stores and tell em you want to see Pathfinder and Gamemastery on the shelf, and do support them for doing so. Good-o to you Sharoth!

Nicolas Logue Contributor |

I am planning to do so, Nick. They treat me well, so I take my buisness to them.
Oh, btw. Nick, if you ever pass through Savannah, GA, give me a heads up. Perhaps I can treat you and your fiance to dinner here.
Thanks Sharoth! I've never been to Georgia, and I'd love to go sometime. I was born in North Carolina and spent a lot of my youth traipsing around the South...truth be told, I miss Dixie often. Mighty kind of you to extend the invitation! I'll let you know if my travels get me down to Savannah! I'd say shoot me a holler if you hit Hawai'i, but I'm leaving so soon. Who knows where I'll land. NYC I hope, but it all depends on me altering my unemployed status. :-(

Nicolas Logue Contributor |

I wish you the best of luck, Nick. Have you tried Geaorgia Souther U or Georgia State U? They might be hiring.
I've foolishly limited my resume bombings to New York...mostly cause my fiance really wants to move back there.
Although I did sneak a couple out to Seattle, but I didn't tell her...ah to live in D&D central!!! Might be worth the pain she would inflict on me

Hey there all,
For those of you who might have missed it, you might want to check out Tuesday's blog post, as it concerns a surprise prequel adventure to this very module (Crown of the Kobold King). Check the blog for details on how to score one of these adventures.

If Logue, Pett, and Jacobs are writing them, I'd for sure be interested!

Ok. I just can't stand it anymore and have to vent!
I mean you guys are just too much. I have had enough and want it to stop right now, buster.
This art you keep posting... come on, what are you guys thinking? It is WAY TOO GOOD. Stop it right now. I demand that all art return to pencil line art the way it always was. You are going to spoil us and that is not a good thing. You tell those overachieving artists you work with to just stop showing off.
Thank you very much.
:)

Although I try to listen to fan feedback and take all good ideas into consideration...
I am going to have to disagree with you Krome. The great art will continue unabated, whether you like it or not. I am afraid your poor eyes are just going to have to put up with our fantastic artists and their techno-color dreams.

Hmmm... the more I read about Gamemastery, Pathfinder, and Paizo in general, the more I like. (Not quite prepared to "give up" on all things WotC... still like my FR and Eberron... although "Cormyr" did disappoint some what) anyway... a subscription service to the Gamemastery modules... Hmmm.... I'd have to say Yes... Yes I'd be interested in that. And I'll talk to my FLGS as well... to at least get my "free" D0 module on Free Game Day (June 23rd.)
Cheers!

Hmm.. Take seriously? I think the TPK the King inflicted on us yesterday was pretty serious.. *wince*.

My group had a great time in that adventure, but the most difficult encounter has been "Glimmaxe" combined with those bloodthirsty ones in the other room after running low on healing, but continuing on anyway, as one of them got infected in the "magnetic" room.
I ruled, that there was a scroll of the remedy with the body of Marten, the cleric of the previous group, now in the hands of some hungry ones.
That scroll (or even two of them) in the mod would have really helped (that plus a mention of the big bad later being a member of that group, but disappearing in the lower level - the rescued bard may tell of that).
Btw. I even made a third verse for the Ballad of Glimmaxe (plus a haunting melody).
3rd verse:
So many heroes have followed this tale,
Venturing forth in sun or in hail.
None have returned, their prayer’s been spurned
How many faces will his shining axe pale?

Well, I just had a near-TPK in this one with the PC (a Bard 8/Rogue 1/Fighter 1) and her Pseudodragon Dragon Shaman 1 and two Warrior 1/Expert 1 Falcon's Hollow cops. The PC picked up four kobold mooks and the discontented shaman as well. She went through the dungeon in the maximally efficient manner to get to the big bad. And I threw in six cure light wounds potions that weren't there in the module.
The save-the-kids adventure hook, when taken seriously by the players, jacks this module way past 2nd level. It just strains credulity that any party would rest the 3-4 times necessary to complete this module safely.
Edit: And by near-TPK, I mean that everyone was knocked unconscious at the end and I'm doing some fancy narrative-adjusting to prevent a total campaign reset.

At the back of the module booklet I read about the iconic cleric 2nd level kyra and she had a healing wand with 25x cure light wounds charges. Should I assume that this item is necessary for the players to survive this obviously dangerous adventure or is it playable with a standard 2nd level cleric with his 2x cure light wounds/day? thanks for your tipps.
