M Dwarf Monk 1 (Tetori)

I think it is me.

Dorhlok attempts to punck one of the kobolds as it attempts to stand, but misses. Surprise! Once it regains it's feet, he attempts to grapple it. ANOTHER NATURAL 1! GODS, WHY DO YOU MOCK ME!?

Here's a repost of the Initiative
Scrumble 22
Anarath 20
Dohlrok 9
Corvin 8
Gawlak 5
with kobolds scattered in there at various intervals.

NPCing Corvin
Corvin charges the black robed kobold with a viscous cry, attempting to smash him into jelly but the kobold step aside and Corvin barely manages to avoid slamming into the wall in front of him.
Scrumble's up. There's only one kobold left on the ground and the four archers up on the roof.

Male Kender Rogue/ 1

Is Scrumble in the room? If so, he is going to take a look around for anything interesting.

Yes, you are in the room.
Dohlrok, Corvin, Scrumble

Spoiler:
It is a hall, about 30ft long and 20 wide. Smashed statues lie to either side of the room and at the far end another large door stands. It is elaboratley wrought of black iron, although something in a strange language (that none of you speak) mars the surface of the door.

Male Kender Rogue/ 1

Okay, he looks closer at the door and searches the room more thoroughly.

Viscous cry? Is that a really slimy yell? ;}

By the way, what the hell is a hoopak?

I just realized I forgot the other two kobolds' turn. I don't know whats wrong with me. Sorry if there are some minor inconsitencies; the last couple of days I've been kind of out of it.
Both kobolds stand up from where Anarath's spell left them lying. One stab at Dohlrok as he launches an ill timed swing but misses. The other moves towards the apparently oblivious halfling and hacks at him with his massive greatsword, which Scrumble mostly dodges. He's still cut a little as the sharp steel bites into his arm.
Scrumble, you take 2 points of damage.

Anarath’s turn?

“Ach, missed,” curses Anarath. “My parent’s would be so proud.” He aims, and fires again at the black robed kobold. His aim is better this time, but will it be good enough?

11+3 = 14 to hit. If it hits, 5 points of damage.

The arrow slams into the kobold's chest, knocking him backwards with a cry of pain.

Dohlrok, you're up.
I'll let Lord Hyrax describe the hoopak.

M Dwarf Monk 1 (Tetori)

Don't worry about it - I missed yet again. Dohrlok flounders about, not hitting anything and wondering if his father was right that he was better off as a mushroom-tender.

Corvin turns around and charges one of the remaining kobold warriors, screaming a stream of profanities. He slams full into the kobold, which squeaks pitiably as it dies, smashed to paste by the human.
I'm going to give Gawlak until tonight to post.

(Sigh...) Haven't you ever read the Dragonlance books?!

Well, it's like a long willow branch with a forked end at the top and a sling in between and tapered bottom with copper plating for stabbing. That cover it?

NPCing Gawlak
Gawlak charges into the room, morningstar ready, but can't quite make it into range of the sole suviving kobold. The kobold starts chanting in a language that none of you understand. Theres something eerie about the strange syllalbes that echo weirdly around the stone hall.
"DIES MIES JESCHET DOUVEMA DOESEF BOENE ENITEMAUS!"

Oh Scrumble...

NPCing Scrumble:
Scrumble turns around and nimbly tumbles away from it.
Anarath

Male Kender Rogue/ 1

How does it keep getting to my turn so fast!? I thought I told you what I was doing! And also what am I dodging nimbly around? I'M SO CONFUSED! WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!![/crazy]

Concerned at the chanting from the remaining kobold, Anarath again tries to target him with his bow… an unfortunate choice it seems.

Rolled a 2 to hit.

It keeps coming around to your turn becasue there's one kobold and only three players. Corvin is on a temporary haitus and Gawlak seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. Dodging nimbly away from the kobold means that he had you cornered and you succeeded on a Tumble check.
Dorlok

M Dwarf Monk 1 (Tetori)

Dohrlok punches out at the kobold - rolled 16 + 2 = 18 to hit (at last!), damage = 1 + 2 = 3, initiating a grapple, roll = 18 + 2 + 4 (Imp Grapple feat) = 24 - connecting with a firm blow and holding it tightly.

"Shall I kill it or should we hold it to question it?"

"KILL THE SCALY BASTARD!"

I'm going to sound like an impatient n00b when I say this, but shouldn't we be leveling up soon?

By the way, I want to multiclass at second level, but I don't know which class to choose: barbarian or rogue. Any suggestions?

Male Kender Rogue/ 1

It depends, do you want to be powerful, or do you want to have an interesting character? I would go with the rouge myself but, whatever.

By my count you're about half-way to lvl 2. Patience is a virtue. To the dark side impatience leads! Barbarian would certainly fit his character nicely, but so would rogue.

M Dwarf Monk 1 (Tetori)

There isn't anything intrinsically interesting about any of the PC classes, it is in the playing IMHO. If we have a rogue already, and you are not very sneaky (which you aren't) I would go with barbarian, as you are certainly crazy enough. But whatever suits, really.

“Question it, if we can,” answers Anarath.

Is the critter that Dohrlok has grabbed the last one left? Is it a black robed one? If so, Anarath will move forward into the hall to question it. Also, what is the description of the hall (?) we are now in?

Shiny, Corvin sounds like a perfect barbarian candidate to me.

I hope you meant rogue. ;}

Apologies for my absence this last week. Glad you're back Shiny.
Yes the Black Robed Kobold is the survivor.

The hall you're in is about 30ft long and made of gray granite blocks. At the far end of the room there is an iron-bound door with a defaced coat of arms and a newer mark that you don't recognize carved into the iron. On the floor there are the cracked remains of statues that once must have resembled human wariors but now are mere chunks of stone. Under the stone and bleeding kobolds are the remains of a grand rug. The ceiling arches into a slight dome above you, mostly obscured by the darkness. As Dohrlok hits the kobold in the black robe it slumps to the floor, bleeding from a broken nose and quite unconcious.

I hate myself. Anyway, Scrumble is going to look under the rug.

Under the rug there seems to be nothing but dust, tatters of the ancient rug and clumps of dust. A few spiders scurry out from underneath the rug into recesses of the room.
Search 22

Spoiler:
Hidden under a peice of the moldy carpet is a small golden necklace of good quality. Hanging from the golden chain is a large pendant in an arcane shape that you don't recognize immediatly.

If you succeeded on the Search check and a DC 20 Knowledge (Religion) or a DC 20 Knowledge (Arcana) check:
Spoiler:
The symbol is that of a godess who is known only to a small number of mages, mostly summoners. Her followers are often evil, although more than a few good summoners claim her (Illaydren) as their patron). She is also often associated with madness and mysterious creatures.

Anarath aids Scrumble in searching the chamber.

Aid Another: 8+5 = 13

Male Kender Rogue/ 1

Natural 20! Can I just take it? Cause I will.
"Hey look I found something!"

“Give me that!” snaps Anarath, trying to snatch the pendant from the kender’s fingers – or at least get a good look at it.

Knowledge, religion: 4+6 = 10. Knowledge, Arcana: 13+7 = 20.

“hmmm…. It looks like the symbol of Illaydren, a rather obscure deity of summoning, madness and mystery. Somewhat evil reputation…”

M Dwarf Monk 1 (Tetori)

"So, er, what about this guy?" says Dohrlok, who is pinning the struggling kobold.

Dohrlok, Stone Fist wrote:

According to Arctaris, your last punch actually knocked it out.

M Dwarf Monk 1 (Tetori)

"I didn't think it was putting up much of a fight," says Dorhlok. "Do we want to keep it, or shall I just strangle it?"

As you discuss the kobold's fate th massive iron-bound front doors begin to swing shut with a loud grinding noise. The crack of daylight that lights the room with its dim light thins. Soon you're left in a pitch black hall, shut in Grimmbold Manor.

Male Human Fighter 3

"Aw s#+#," mumbles Corvin. He gets a running start, smashing into the iron-bound door. Colliding with a resounding crash, the fighter crumples to the floor. After a few moments, he whispers "I think we're stuck in here."

M Dwarf Monk 1 (Tetori)

"What's the problem? I can see perfectly."

Male Human Fighter 3
Dohrlok, Stone Fist wrote:
"What's the problem? I can see perfectly."

"Why? An't nobody can see in the dark... Unnatural, it is."

Male Kender Rogue/ 1

The Kender gives up the thing to Anarath
"Well there has to be someway to open the door!
Let's try the other door, Dohrlok if you please..."

M Dwarf Monk 1 (Tetori)

"If you have lanterns or torches, I will light them for you."

Midnight squawks in alarm as the doors slam shut.

Anarath clears his throat … “erm … I just remembered, I bought oil but no lantern… I hope one of you others has something. Did we all make it inside? Gawlak, Gries, are you in here?

“As for the kobold, whilst information would be valuable, I have had poor luck at getting information from anyone so far, be it kobold or elf. I little relish that thing coming to and wringing our necks in the dark, so perhaps we should pre-empt that…”

In response to your question directed at Greis and Gawlak, you hear only silence in the hall. You recall that they were both near the door when it closed...

M Dwarf Monk 1 (Tetori)

Is there anything we can make a torch or torches out of? bits of wood, cloth, that sort of thing?

Anarath does have a Light spell prepared. However, he’ll only use it if no one else has a torch, as it will only last 10 minutes at first level.

No, there isn't anything flammable that you can see in the room.

Male Kender Rogue/ 1

"I've got a torch!" says Scrumble, stumbling around trying to find Dohrlok.

Male Human Fighter 3

Corvin fumbles around in his pouch for anything useful. His fingers close around a flint and steel.

"I got one o' them fire-starters here."

M Dwarf Monk 1 (Tetori)

Dohrlok takes the items proffered by Scumble and Corvin and lights the torch.
