Among other things. On the one hand, I've got a Black Flag tattoo; on the other hand, I have a framed Gin Blossoms tour poster in my living room...

The particular rabbit hole I was going down was "songs that were played on the local pop/rock radio station in the early '00s." Brings back memories of sitting in my parents' basement after school, poring over Dragon Magazine.

Didn't like it at first, but got into it. On reflection, that's a good old version.

I think I might actually like the cover more than the original.

David,

I don't have tattoos, but if I did, I would have one of Metallica on inside of my heart valves.

A few years after Heartattack And Vine was released, Bruce Springsteen released a cover of "Jersey Girl". Because of course he did.

A few decades after that, The Menzingers referenced "Jersey Girl" in their song "Lookers" (one of my all-time favorites).

Pink Floyd - "On The Turning Away"
Sniff 'N' The Tears - "Driver's Seat"
Soundgarden - "Fell On Black Days"
Gin Blossoms - "Whitewash"
Gin Blossoms - "The End Of The World"

Seether - "Sold Me [demo]"

Black Flag - "White Hot"
Eric Church - "Give Me Back My Hometown"
Eric Church - "Stick That In Your Country Song"

The Wonder Years - "Came Out Swinging"
Modern Baseball - "Your Graduation"

Breaking Benjamin - "Angels Fall"

Puddle Of Mudd - "Blurry"
Ariana Grande - "thank u, next"
Backstreet Boys - "Larger Than Life"
Tears For Fears - "Everybody Wants To Rule The World"
Diamanda Galás - "Double-Barrel Prayer"

I like that you mixed in classic 80s with some grunge there.

I suppose it was inevitable that Bruce covered it, I do like his live version of that song, but I'm not the biggest Bruce fan.

I'm curious, you being a musician. What is your take on Tom Waits.Sure his voice sounds like louis armstrong on a bender but I dig his stuff

I'm a pretty big fan. Not my all-time favorite musician, but I've definitely got a few of his albums (Rain Dogs, Bone Machine, and Blood Money).

The only real obstacle I've found regarding becoming a Tom Waits superfan (like my uncle, who's bought every single album on vinyl on release day since 1973) is going through the guy's massive back catalog of material, some of which isn't exactly... accessible.

Still, though, the guy's put out a bunch of absolute masterpieces. Some of my all-time favorites:

"Martha"

"Drunk On The Moon"

"I Hope That I Don't Fall In Love With You"

"Singapore"

"Hang Down Your Head"

"Jockey Full Of Bourbon"

"Downtown Train"

"Goin' Out West"

"I Don't Wanna Grow Up"

"God's Away On Business"

"Hell Broke Luce"

Tom Waits Rain Dogs is probably my favorite album. I think you get a taste of everything Waits ahs played with in his career there.
