The Jade wrote:(lol) Ah Jade, your reputation precedes you! I have no desire to turn this into a saga. Maybe you're right, maybe he was referring to everyone. He may have meant that everyone before you was beginning to twist it away from the original content, content he still wanted to speak to. Either that or he truly does harbor a dislike of Conan mentioners in which case...
FIGHT! FIGHT! A Hyberborian and an Islander of Wight!
LOL
I was actually referring to myself, going off topic, re UK slang.
My subsequent post was so long, several people posted in between.
I would be very interested to see a Conan film, animated or otherwise, though 'Red Nails' would seem to be rather short for a full feature.

Ah, the beauty of misinterpreting forum chat. You have my apologies, Snorter, once I wipe this egg off my face.
You're right about Red Nails, it would be a little on the short side. In fact, most of the REH stories would need some stretching to make feature length. Still, I'd rather see a slightly shorter REH story done right than an original script done bad (like Conan the Destroyer).

The Film Trilogy of Lotr is an exercise in diminishing returns. Fellowship has all the essential points to make a whole movie, a definate begining middle and end. Two towers has lots of action bit little plot leading up to not an ending but a year long pause. Return of the King then just adds in a overlong battle that abrubtly ends with a green cloud special effect. I love these movies but it really is the case that the first one was the best. I think the one thing that really tipped it for me was the Shelob scenes. She doesnt talk to Frodo. A giant spider is scary but a talking, taunting, giant spider has real menace, which is what those scenes lacked.

Agreed! I do hope that the spiders in the Hobbit can speak. Only thing more menacing that a huge spider, is a huge, intelligent, taunting, speaking, spider.

I think it is actually very appropriate that a different director is used, in that LotR is a very different story than The Hobbit. Different themes, characters, and motivations. I also think the Hobbit is going to be tougher to pull off in some ways - the story itself is pretty linear, and to me was much more of a children's story than LotR ever was. To make it a compelling, engaging movie that is not just a series of CGI encounters is going to be a tall order. Which reminds me - if no Peter Jackson, then will it also not have the excellent CGI skills of Weta?
