I’m thinking of selling some of my old D&D stuff (1st and 2nd ed), but I’m not sure how to go about it. I’ve never used eBay, and I wouldn’t know how to evaluate whether something’s “Mint” or “Very Good”, or “Average” or “Bad” condition. Obviously, I wouldn’t want to under-grade something.
Can anyone offer advice, please?

I would be interested in any Forgotten Realms material you have and possibly some of the character handbooks; email me at klauswitz@hotmail.com and let me know what you have.

ericthecleric,
It's funny but I've been struggling with the same problem. I'm moving within the month and have grow tired of lugging around about 60 old (and I do mean OLD - 80s stuff) issues of Dragon magazine. I know nothing of eBay and don't really want to learn at this juncture of my life. Is there some appropriate place here on the messageboards to advertise (or is this it)?

I've generally found that if you honestly describe the condition of the items on e-bay, you don't have to ascribe a "mint" or "fair" or whatever tag to the item.
I sold off all of my excess 1e/2e stuff on e-bay over the course of several months. I just described the item accurately and I never got any negative feedback. I missed the fact that one of my modules was missing a map and the receiver was disappointed, but he and I worked out a deal where I refunded him half the value of the module and he was happy.
My original 1st edition Judges Guild Dark Tower module went to a guy in the UK for $55. I was stunned.
I kept all the 1e/2e books and modules that I really, really liked, but I found that I had such an incredible excess of stuff that I wouldn't have minded parting with. I ended up selling all of it for about $500 and used that money to finance the purchase of most of my 3.5 stuff, including updating my Dungeon and Dragon magazine subscriptions.
Good luck. I still think e-bay is the best choice to sell the stuff though because it has a huge audience.

That would be an interesting addition to the Paizo site and online community... a port for D&D material resale. I'd shop it. As much as it might add to the culture it might just as easily open a can of worms. Paizo, though not directly blamed since they aren't the seller, wouldn't want to deal with a stream of hate posts because one guy thought he was paying for mint only to discover a clear quarter inch foldover on page 23/24.
"YOU SAID MINT! YOU CALL THIS MINT! MY OUTRAGE, and my willingness to expound upon said dissappointment, KNOWS NO BOUNDS! BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULLLLLLLLL....."
Oh would the mood drop to an all time low.
Please guys, if you're thinking of selling, drop me a quick list if you can at thejade1@iwon.com. I'm not interested in any material that looks like it's been sliced and diced with a rusty Schlitz can but if it's intact and doesn't bear owner's graffitti it will do just fine.

Ive got an old Deities and demigods that I would trade for a mini.
There was a time when Deities and Demigods went out of print, and because it contained the Melnibonean and Newhon mythos unlike later editions, it was going for $40. This was back in 1981 or 82. That seemed like money in the bank, so I went around collecting copies from people who didn't care.
"Here ya go, kid. Enjoy."
Thing is, I forgot to sell them. Now they're worth five bucks a piece and I have like six of them.
Still one of my favorites. I used to stare at Erol Otus' artwork on that cover and within and be transported.

Well, I think Doc_Outlands gets a salute for his humor.
I’ll put up a full list when I get round to it, hopefully soon, as there’s a lot of stuff. My earliest issues of Dragon date back to 1982, if that gives any indication.
As a taster, highlights include The Complete Book of Necromancers, the Vecna trilogy, plenty of Planescape and Ravenloft stuff, etc.
Chuck, you’re in luck as I’ve also got a lot of FR stuff (mostly 2nd ed).
I just can’t believe how stoopid I was in 1990, when I GAVE AWAY about 30 old modules, which included A1-4, T1-4, and the complete “H” series. Pah. Not doing that again.

Yikes, I can’t BELIEVE how much RPG stuff I’ve got. Sorry for the delay.
Thanks everyone for your comments/help (especially F2K and The Jade).
SirMarcus, I hope you manage to sell your old Dragons.
The Jade, 20 years ago I’d have loved to have had a Cthulu/Moorcock Deities & Demigods. I hope you manage to sell them at some point.
OK, here’s the list of (A)D&D stuff. I’ve also compiled a list of my Dragon mags and non-D&D RPG stuff, which I’ll add as soon as I can. When compiling the list, I noticed that there’s some things I KNOW I own (Al-Qadim Land of Fate boxed set, 2.0 Masque of the Red Death, Children of the Night: Ghosts, 3.0 Player’s Handbook, Heart of Nightfang Spire), but should be able to get back within a few weeks.
I also realized that I also have/had the Complete… Bard’s, Fighter’s, Paladin’s, and Priest’s Handbooks, as well as Player’s Option: Combat & Tactics, but I remember lending them to a then-player 8 years ago who didn’t return them. Thieving sod. (Moral of the story? Never lend your RPG stuff.)
Most of it is in very good/mint condition (except for the stuff I bought second-hand); I take care of my books. If anyone wants to know what a particular product is, take a look at the Paizo “products” list for a more detailed description.
Aside from the RPG stuff, can anyone recommend any good second-hand comics websites so I can investigate prices?
I’ve got Buffy series 4-6 and Angel 1-3 on video as well which I’ll sell to anyone in the UK who’s interested (and who makes a sensible offer!).

Some info is good, some out of date.| Michael Griffith |
Of all of it, I am most interested in Races of Faerun and .... God, there was so much, I have to go back and look.
Do what I do when I sell of stuff.
Go to either Amazon or E-bay, do a search for the item and see what it is going for to get a good feel for the price.
Some of the modules, GREYHAWK and FR stuff you have are going for decent prices (and then, some of it is going for pennies on the dollar).
Be careful, and get fair prices.
Soooo much good stuff!!!

I’m posting the following to keep everyone informed. It seems rude not to.
I like in the UK, and I suspect most of you who’ve posted live in the USA. So, bear in mind that there are bank charges and postage rates to take into account. On the other hand, I'm willing to sell the lot for a bit less because of that to anyone outside the UK.
I followed Mike Griffith’s advice, and checked out various prices on Amazon (USA, UK, and occasionally German versions). This revealed surprising information, namely, that the UK prices are actually higher than in the USA. I thought it'd be the other way round!
To give you some examples (of some of the "big ticket" items), "Hellbound: The Blood War" is listed at a price of about $160 on Amazon.com, and between £100 to £277.45 on Amazon.co.uk; while "Planes of Law" is listed at a price of about $45 (average condition) to $149.95 on Amazon.com, and between £96.29 to £249.46 on Amazon.co.uk. Just to reiterate, those are the big ticket items. Personally, I think that £277.45 and £249.46 is nuts.
Even so, I have a figure in mind. I’m not thinking of a few hundred dollars or even a few thousand (too low) or $100,000 (too high!). I’ve asked my local RPG retailer for a second opinion on the price. I’ve not heard back from him yet; it may take a little while, but there’s no rush.
With the above in mind, if anyone is still interested (who hasn’t already), please put your email address up, and I’ll send you the full list.
I’m currently corresponding with one of the posters for the whole lot, but I want to wait until (if) I hear back from that retailer. If I can’t sell the whole lot together, I’ll then have to consider breaking it up, so for those who’ve expressed interest in the lot, or in particular lines, please bear with me.

I sold all my old D&D on half.com. One guy bought 3 things, and then e-mailed me if I had any more. I sold him one of those photocopier paper boxes full of stuff for around $200. Much more than I would have gotten selling it one at a time, and shipping was much less for him, so we call came out good.
