I would like to see a sort of split line with:
Life of a class through Star Fleet Academy
A young Ensign (not a a child prodigy)as aid to a seasoned captain on a long range mission comprised of several ships. One a prototype that actually uses some of the ideas developed and dropped.
Command and control on Earth touching base with different ships.
I'd like the characters a little darker and more pragmatic.
I like the time after the Next Gen Trek Movies.
I think their is still plenty to explore. Races to discover.

I think a series set in the continuing trek universe (just after Voyager) that shows starfleet to be 'the bad guys' and lets the viewer see just what it's like if your one of those people who wants to have money, a religeon, smoke, drink and some other things that dont seem to be allowed on the Enterprise!
This series would tell the story of those who dont want to be assimulated by the fascist-flavored federation! :D
The stars of the series would be a group of freedom fighter/terrorist/rebels made up of different races who have exciting adventures in the alpha quad.
Things like trying to bust out politcal prisoners from federation jails or escaping capture by starfleet ships!
Each episode would see them desperatly trying to tear down this HUGE overbearing borg-like culture eating creature by pulling various stunts like kidnapping important trek figures and sabataging first contacts, stealing starships and blowing up outposts etc.
This rag-tag group would be supported by all manner of power groups, often by the Ferengi - who would supply them with cool tech and hide them in space-safehouses, fit them with cloaking devices and other nice things.
It would be great if done properly.

I would like to see a series called Star Trek: Chronicles. Each episode would be a one or two-parter about someone, somewhere in the Star Trek Universe. One episode could be about some starfleet away team on some planet, another could be about some Bjoran resistance during the occupation. Every short-story would be in a different place and time, with different character (with SOME re-occuring characters). Heck, we could even see an episode or two with Data and Geordi, or even with Kirk before he went into the Nexus.
The stories would be limitless. An episode with the Maquis, an episode with the Borg, an episode on DS9, a whole episode showing the battle at Wolf 359...
It could even have an "Outer Limits" feel with some episodes actually ending 'badly'.
It's nice to dream, isn't it?

And 'Q' could be the 'Cryptkeeper' introducing the episode! :D
Or each episode could be linked into a huge but subtle meta-story (that only makes sense at the end of the series but isnt nessasary to 'get' by the veiwer in order to enjoy a single episode) by an object that passes throught the hands of the characters in the series.

My ultimate Trek idea?
I'd love to see a wartime drama like Band of Brothers set during the Eugenics Wars and the post WWIII setting that Q presides over in the grand tribunal in the first TNG episode. I dug those big drug-user guys with the over and under submachineguns in the armored hazmat suits.
Believe it or not...that's the acceptable one. The other one I'd like to see is the adventures of Pike's Enterprise (that's what I got all pumped about Enterprise for--the Enterprise before Kirk, I thought was going to be Pike).
I'd cast everyone as close to the original cast as I could and keep all the sets very close to how they looked in the original (like when old Scotty goes back onto the bridge in the holodeck?) It'd just be the technobabble, the aliens, the planet sets, the raygun and exterior ship FX, and what the guts of the ship looked like when you take the panels off, that I'd give a facelift to. Everything else would be vintage Trek with a modern twist. There could even be some subtle wry humor poking fun at the way people in the 60's though enlightened people would act--but all very straight faced.
Like anyone but me would watch them. Heh.

Star Trek: Rebirth.
It is hundreds of years into the future (from end of Voyager). The galaxy has fallen into lawlessness and chaos, the Federation is gone, the Dominion is gone, all the old empires have vanished. One Federation Starship has survived with records of the past. It carries records of the glory and light that was the Federation. A group of idealists steal the ship and embark on a quest to restore order to the galaxy.
(Guess Andromeda got here first).
Star Trek: Empire
A Klingon fleet battles on the edge of the galaxy against a new alien threat. Monsters in living ships with a hive mind intelligence and the ability to manipulate genes to create a whole variety of soldiers/pyschics/ships.
(nah, thats too much like Tyranids for GW to ignore the copyright infrigement)
Star Trek: Destiny
The Borg resurface with a fleet of cubes hidden in transwarp and conquer the whole galaxy apart from a small ragtag fleet of federation ships lead by one warship.
(we have seen that before somewhere, twice in fact)
Star Trek: Defiant
The Defiant is rebuilt/recommissioned to lead a new fleet bacl along the course the Voyager took. This time they get to kick ass and not runaway like Janeway.
(who else thought that if the defiant was stuck so far from home it would have blazed its way back in a hail of phasers and quantum torpedoes?)
Star Trek: Dark Mirror
A whole series set in the Mirror Universe.
Star Trek Nights
A Trek series with adult themes and content. Orion Slave girls abound.
Star Trek: Section 31
A spy/espionage/intrigue series with all the secret service/spy branches of the Trek empires versus each other.
Star Trek: Borders
Written by Joss Whedon, Stars Nathan Fillion as the captain of a tramp freighter on the borders of known space with a loyal crew (to include the following: an ace pilot, a war buddy first officer, a smart-talking mercenary, a secretive priest, a genius mechanic, a working girl, a brilliant doctor and a psychic assassin). They could get into all sorts of adventures each week.

I would like to see a series called Star Trek: Chronicles. ...
I wanted to say I would like to see a more anthological space saga, but Ultradan has a post so similar that now all I can say is, "Yay, what Ultradan said!"
Stories could have wonderful variation. For example, knowledge and technology taken for granted in one society, in a particular local cluster of a galaxy, could be the unreachable dream for another race, near a dread pulsar let say, and failure to invent it leads to their pitiful demise.
We would cry, "oh, no! if only.. if only..." and despair realizing that even within a galaxy with a billion suns the universe is cold and godless.

New producers.
Beyond that, Enterprise should have taken advantage of ST history (especially given the era they went for) -- the war with the Klingons would have been an incredible opportunity for a series.
Going backward in the ST timeline is better than forward, as the technology gets a little out of hand when you have to challenge the characters week after week.

Geez; I would like to see them write some genuine Star Trek related stuff and stay away from this gadfersaken time travel BS. If you watch the old episodes; the classics with Kirk, Spock, McCoy and da boyz, there are a whole lot of things hanging and left open like the time when in the elavator Scotty was talking to Chekov and says something like " and you remember how it went when we met the "somebody we dont know and havent heard about again" and how that turned out" (they both nodded and grimaced. There is lots of stuff like that; answer some of these questions with good plot driven writing as well as some new stuff; the stupid Enterprize, which I had such high hopes for, completely went away from the known history of the federation. I can name examples; dont tempt me. There have been several wars; lot of controversy with members and non member and planets joining; there such a wealth of information to write from that is just left abandoned. We hear about the Eugenics wars, the Klingon wars, the Romulan wars, the Cardassian wars; who knows what else. I am not suggesting a series of war movies, but some events led to these things and resolved these things; that is SF history worth watching though everyone likes a few battles. Even at the end of Picard's Star Trek; there is supposed to be an invasion from those creatures that are lodged in peoples throats and trying to take over; those events and how this unfolds is good stuff for a series; I could name lots of other dangeling things too, like those guys from another galaxy who turned most of the crew into salt cubes until Kirk and the boyz turned on their human emotions; they were given a planet somewhere and with their advanced knowledge and stuff; whatever happened to them; sheesh, surely they would have some good ideas against the Borg and whatnot.
My point is; there is a lot out there; lots of material to pull from to write some decent episodes and plot lines without the current garbage somebody dreamed up.

There was a British Series called Blake Seven which came out after the original Trek. It was pretty much exactly this. Even took the Federation symbol and tilted it 180 degrees as the Empires symbol, dont know how they got away with it. Its dated worse than Trek since the budget was smaller but the concept is brilliant and worth checking out if you can find repeats or the DVD's. The show was created by Terry Nation who also created the Daleks in DR Who. It lasted 4 seasons before finishing abruptly. I think the guy who played "Avon" (Paul Darrow) has been trying to bring it back.
Personally I think a Battlestar Galactica type reimagining of Blake seven would be excellent.

I always thought that the Deep Space Nine concept was a good one: where the main characters stay in one spot and deal with each new visiting ship. I have severe reservations about any series that involve the Kzinti: you will be mixing elements from Niven's Tales of Known Space and from the Star Fleet Battles (SFB) wargame with the classic Roddenberry vision of the future, and the result may well be an unwieldy mess. If you want to do an entire series based around the SFB General War featuring the Andromedan Invasion, then it would make sense to introduce the Kzinti, the Klingons, the Lyrans, the Tholians, the Gorns, the Federation, the Romulans, the Interstellar Concordium and other star faring civilizations as they band together (or not) to combat a common foe, with a multitude of weapons and tactics in play.

Say, weren't they supposed to make some kind of Star Trek Academy show a while back? I remember hearing something about it years and years and years ago...yeesh, I think I was in junior high school at the time. I think the idea got shouted down by people who were sure it was going to be a 90210 in space, but then again these are the same people who swore DS9(and to a lesser extent, Voyager) would fail miserably- and look how wrong they were!

I would be happy with a new Trek in general, and they should tap someone like Whedon to do it. With out Firefly there would not have been the impetus to get BSG on the air (or so I was told by my buddy Eric at Sci Fi network). You are right though, Real people (boys and Girls) doing stuff like exploring the edges of known space for 48 minutes would be cool.

Well, the women in the trek universe have never been a dissappointment; heck even Joan Collins was in the original series, so I think we would get our babe content. If anything is done; I just want it be be at least abit cerebral and have decent science and maybe have a real naval commander giving expert advice on stuff; the layout of the first ship was terrible; they fixed some of that in the Next Gen stuff; would like to see them have some marines on board that are not disposable and do what marines have always done.
I am perfectly happy with the traveling ship option; I found the DS-9 a bit weak and think the Babylon 5 series did the port in space theme with great writing a whole lot better. It could be done well, but placement and story would have to be really well written and thought out.
I dont see how anything based around Star Fleet Academy could be interesting; would this be like the show the Paper Chase set in the future? that was a pretty good show, but basically, the Academy is a Military School; can't image a show about future West Point or whatnot being that interesting, really, you basically go to class and spend a few months in the summer getting on the job training; can that hold an audience; hmm.

I would like to see a Star Trek series based on the final days of the Federation(Final five years or so).A tale about a Universe on the brink of anarchy. A series that shows the decline of an empire. The Federation must fall as all societies fall, as this one is currently falling. So on and so forth. With a lot of that "cut from todays headlines" played out in another medium. Art imitating life, or somthing. Yeah , that sounds good to me.

The last two seasons of DS9 pwn Babylon 5.
Fact.

Ain't that the truth!
I'd like a real civil war in the Federation, spawned by hot Romulan babes... :)
No seriously though. I know Rodenberry wanted to use Star Trek to show a bright future for humanity. But sometimes that bright future is threatened by your own. A Civil War would be something. With all the external threats out there waiting for the right opportunity to feast upon the Federation's remains. Star it off like any other series, all happy, happy, joy, joy, but with the occasional seeds of malcontent...

Star Trek: Nothing for at least another five years.
The wounds from Voyager and Enterprise are still too raw for the show to support another new series. Anything new at this point will draw nothing but cynicism and skepticism; better to simply let the show lie for a few more years, and pick things up again in the early 25th century. Perhaps have Jonathan Frakes in a guest spot now and again as Admiral Riker, but no other connections to TNG/DS9/VOY.

Star Trek: Section 31
A spy/espionage/intrigue series with all the secret service/spy branches of the Trek empires versus each other.
That's a good one. Each episode would mesh in a long arc that traces the history of S31 from the beginning to whenever (think _Magnolia_, where lives/times play out to have awesome and unexpected quantum-effects-like interconnectivity); and, of course, lots of intrigue, kind of in the style of the Owls and Roosters from _Millennium_.

They didn't even get a good half-season of exposition--the whole Group conspiracy and internal intrigue arc was the best part of the short-lived, outstanding, series. Or, at least, that's my opinion.

I'd like to see something that didn't think it had to be an ensemble cast.
The original series had great chemistry among its main three (Kirk, Spock & McCoy) and developed the rest of the cast with occasional episoded featuring them.
With TNG, though, they tried to give everyone something to do every episode and the show began caving in for me under the weight of its own drama.
Otherwise, I'm rooting for a continuation of the Star Trek timeline. Something as simple as the collapse of a nearby space empire (Klingon, Romulan, whatever) leading to the Federation annexing a lot of new, unexplored space. The new show would be about a new ship and crew (smaller than the Enterprise to support my reduced casting desires) trying to figure out exactly what they had just acquired.
It'd be like Lewis and Clark IN SPACE!

I would like to see absolutely nothing.
I grew up with the original series, kinda liked Next Gen, was mostly bored by Voyager, couldn’t stand DS9 and thought the latest travesty should never have been made.
The further they go, the further from Roddenberry’s original concept they got. It is obvious that Majell hasn’t had a lot of real input for a long time.
Let it die, maybe it can harbor some dignity and respect and not get flogged into a Gilligan’s Island style never-ending pile of junk that even the most die-hard fans end up laughing at.
