And after that I may put in some Autograph. (Man, I feel old)
I can't hear you. Maybe you should "Turn Up the Radio" if you're going to have "Blondes in Black Cars" - unless, of course, you have the same problem I do, which is "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend Isn't Me".

Dream Theatre is on the radio where I live (Delaware) advertising their 25 yr? Anniversary tour......Pull me Under!
IIRC: officially, they started in 1985, but lead singer James LaBrie didn't join until '91.
(Personally, I don't really count either Majesty - their original incarnation - or When Dream and Day Unite - which featured their original lead singer, Charlie Dominici.)
One of the best bands ever who never made it like they deserved to.
Naturally, I'd have to agree, to a point. By which I mean, they have a very respectable worldwide fanbase, considering they "hit it big" right around the time Seattle grunge Ruled the World (and being the best prog metal band of all time, and one of the best prog bands of any type, doesn't hurt either).
And, in keeping this thread On Topic, I'm currently listening to "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulance: VI. Solitary Shell".

I just picked up the new David Gilmour CD, On An Island...
I listened to that on Napster the other day. It's nice...kind of a mellow surreal feel to it. I might have to drop the .99 per song to get it. I was in a Pink Floyd mood and came across David Gilmour's new one. I wish they'd tour again; that stadium tour they did in '94 was really great.

80's flashback complete!FH
I have 80's flashbacks all the time. I wish I could go back.......heck, I listened to Jan Hammer the other day, even though I no longer enjoy Miami Vice (it was a phase, then I bought some socks...)
Best 80's flashback album for me-- Aldo Nova

80's flashbacks....skinny ties and addidas shoes everywhere.
For me, 80's was all about Van Halen (and the massive crazy breakup). I followed Roth out of some sort of loyalty...though I liked Hagar solo (Its yer one way ticket to midnight! Call it Heavy Metal!) and Montrose stuff...but somehow taking Roth out was sacriliege! Bought 5150, like most everybody at the time and liked a few songs "Best of Both Worlds" and "Get Up", and then never bought another VH record. I really got into "Eat em n Smile" (Gimmee a bottle of anything and a glazed donut ...to go!). Followed him right up till "She's my Machine" (forget what album that was). I heard this newest one not too long ago when he was on a couple of late night talk shows...right before he became a paramedic?!?!? The band was fairly competent and I kinda liked them, but then he did a new version of "Panama" and it was like nails on a chalkboard! YIKES!
"They" say they may reform VH again with DLR...and I won't probably go see it...sigh! I have a couple of old bootleg vids from the CAL JAM in 83-84 and the one they made the video for "Unchained" for (80 or 81). Those are about as close as I will get to see that greatgreat band.
Speaking of 80's...have you seen the TWO versions of the newer Nike commercial with ACDC "Rock n Roll ain't Noise Pollution" on them?!?!?
When the commercial first aired (some time ago) the part where Brian Johnson (or somebody) takes the drag off the 'smoking substance'...they showed a smokestack to represent that noise....now on the newer version that sound and scene are removed. Wha happened?
so, my song of the day is...
(All right)
Hey there, all you middle men
Throw away your fancy clothes
And while you're out there sittin' on a fence
So get off your ass and come down here
'Cause rock 'n' roll ain't no riddle man
To me it makes good, good sense

I have my CD collection encoded as mp3s on my laptop and listen to that instead of the CDs themselves. It's usually on shuffle, which due to my eclectic tastes (combined with my girlfriend's) leads to a pretty strange mix. Here are the last songs that got thrown up by winamp:
Jingle Bells - Reggae Xmas
Mr Eddy's Theme 1 - Barry Adamson
Plastic Money - Twisted Sister
Sharn, City of Towers - Eberron Soundtrack
Prowler '88 - Iron Maiden
Bird Song at Eventide - Ronnie Ronalds
Roxanne - The Police
Sailing To America - Saxon
The Doors of Durin - Howard Shore
Do You Feel Loved? - Subcircus
Bounty for A Wookie - John Williams
Slept So Long - Jay Gordon
Wishing Well - Porno for Pyros
Fireplace - REM
Disposable Heroes - Metallica
No NiN there, I note, which is a bit unusual. Ah well, those are the odds, I guess... :-)

Lilith |

Currently on shuffle:
Ringside - Struggle
KT Tunstall - Black Horse & the Cherry Tree
Daft Punk - Technologic
Henry Mancini - Peter Gunn Suite
Taj Mahal - She Caught The Katy (and Gave Me a Mule to Ride)
Good Charlotte - I Just Want To Live
The Black Mages - J E N O V A
I'd mildly impressed with Good Charlotte (yeah, I know they've been out a while) - any other song suggestions from them

Add me to the metalhead/prog rock list. Though I usually IPOD more than listen to CD's anymore (I did just buy On an Island by David Gilmour though). My faves have to be Rush, Dream Theater, Saga, Floyd, Megadeth, Maiden, Dio, Rainbow, Styx, and don't shoot me, but I love Journey and Foreigner too.
I usually just put my IPOD on shuffle on see what comes up next.
Strangely enough, I also like Sarah McLachlan, Kiss, April Wine, Blue Oyster Cult, Big Country, Boston, Ozzy, Creed, Cheap Trick, The Cars...
The list just goes on and on.

Recently, I've been digging Volume 1 of the 'Back From The Grave' series. I've owned it for years, and every few months or so, I go into fits of listening to it... now is one of those times.
It is a compilation of garage bands from the mid sixties. The fore-fathers of punk and indie rock, if you will. Spastic teenage rock-n-roll bands giving it their all, because they knew that this 7" they were putting out was their ticket to fame! While that may not have been the case, it did result in some genuine, awesome, honest rock-and-f'ing-roll!
Do yourself a favor and dig it!
Also, I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of a CD by Klaus Nomi... anyone familiar? I wasn't until a couple of weeks ago, and now I'm fascinated.

It's good hunh? I've been meaning to pick it up - now I will.
Speaking of:
MC5 - Kick out the Jams
Morrisey - Irish Blood, English Heart
Mr. John Cash and Ms. June Carter - Jackson
NWA - Straight out of Compton
This is what I listened to last night while surfing the internet.

D.R.I. today.
I was threatened with an a** beating once for listening to DRI. Communist-punk crap is what I was told. Good social commentary is what I say.
M@
Wooh! Tabernacle!
I was once subjected to the ire of a junior high school teacher for wearing a D.R.I. T-shirt. Little did she know how perfectly it fit into my master plan! Eat it Mrs. Kilgren!
Lately I've been listening to the String Quartet Tribute to Tool. I find it helps me write D&D. If I put on Megadeth or Maiden (or any other old metal/rock) I just want to get up and thrash around. The absence of lyrics with the String Quartet helps me focus but the hard edge hidden underneath it all inspires my devious parts. Mwu-ha-ha-ha!

I remember getting off the plane at LAX when I was just a little idiot in the 80's with my "money stinks" shirt on, and some older suit came up to me and said "Well that depends if you s*** on it or not!" I also remember a great day in 1987 when we were going to lunch in junior high and we were all excited about D.R.I. playing that evening, when one of our friends says "Look man, there's Felix and Spike!" We all started laughing thinking he was messing with us until we looked across the street to the parking lot of the "chandler inn(AZ)" and we see them hanging out on a bench having a few beers. We ran over there and pestered them for a bit before heading back to class. It was so great as a kid to see one of our favorite bands and realize that they were just the same as us and it wasn't all a big marketing ploy. That day and the thrashing that was delivered that night completely changed how I viewed the world and opened my eyes to the true meaning of FREEDOM! I am going to go listen to "22 songs" on vinyl right now!

I'm doing maintenance on my Media player files right now and I'm listening to Journey-Escape, Departure, Evolution....man, that's some good stuff when you're in the right mood.
Lilith mentioned Rammstein earlier. I bought "Rosenrot" on Napster earlier today. It's a pretty good album, but I mainly bought it because of the one very, very vulgar Spanish language song on there that my shift will never, ever believe was sung by a bunch of Germans. I'm the only white guy in my section (my immediate co-workers are all Hispanic), so I get some good-natured ribbing all the time about being German and not being able to speak much Spanish.....the rest of the album was good too, so it's cool.

Shweet. I'll have to look into that album...
I love Rammstein. Angry German music is so cathartic...
There's a group called "E Nomine" (I think) that does a lot of religious style music with a twist. "Pater Noster", "Vater Unser", "Mitternacht" and "Psalm 23" are the ones that are my favorite. Think "Engel" by Rammstein for an idea of what they sound like.

I'll check it out. I'm not often in the mood for Rammstein. For German language music I prefer BAP. (Very hard to find in the States, think of Dire Straits with a Cologne dialect--their dialect of German is right from my part of Germany, so they're kind of hard for Germans from other parts of Germany to understand sometimes as well).
Sometimes, when I really want to get under my co-workers' skin, I'll play Herbert Groenemeyer. He's the guy who played the reporter on "Das Boot." In the 80's he had a recording career going where he did a lot of 80's style light pop music in German, with lots of synthesizers. Sometimes, I sing along with him. That really does the trick. Since I started doing that, my fellow employees don't play nearly as much music in a language that I don't understand. Well, only two of them do anyway, my sergeant is a big classic rock fan and another guy in the unit likes hard rock from the 90's and 00's.

Metal Church: The Dark is a great album from a very underrated metal band. The lyrics alone are sheer poetry. I was and am a GIANT fan of Metal Church (notice my name?). Glad someone else appreciates good ol' fashion, high-pitched, metal.
Your dying on a stretcher
we'll try to save your life
If you can't afford my service

Yeah, I kinda figured the handle had to come from somewhere... I LOVE "The Dark" - I was actually considering using "TonOfBricks" as my avatar name - but I have no real use fot the post-David Wayne stuff they've put out. Still, that album is a Hall of Fame effort. Respect the howl!

I was lucky enough to see Metal Church with "possessed" and it still rates high on my list of live shows. I get crap from other friends who didn't appreciate "the dark" when it came out, but I love that record! I was also lucky enough to catch Kreator right after "pleasure to kill" was released. Old Kreator is some of the best thrash of all time. Those crazy Germans are still touring now, but it will only ruin your good memories if you go see them haha

Old Kreator vs. new Kreator is a bit like the old Metallica vs. new Metallica discussion... I like the new Kreator albums a lot, but they are nowhere near as good as "Endless pain" or even "Terrible certainty". Of course, not many records are...
Working late tonight, with only one disc in the sound system. However, it happens to be perhaps the finest piece of music ever recorded - Obituary: Cause of death.

Matthew Herbert Big Band - Goodbye Swingtime
Aimee Mann - Bachelor No. 2

Hmm, no iPod or anything, but I generally just have my computer open to Windows Media Player, which has most of my music on it. Sadly, nothing terribly interesting. Most recently, this is what I've been listening to:
-The Beatles (complete collection)
-Jethro Tull (Aqualung and a few random songs from other albums)
-Trans-Siberian Orchestra (Beethoven's Last Night)
-Loreena McKennitt (Quite a few albums)
I've also got things like Rammstein, Orgy, Lit, Lord of the Dance, Metallica, Nirvana, Blink 182, Simon and Garfunkel, Silverchair, Stroke 9, Pink Floyd, Lifehouse, and a few classical albums... and I'm somewhat more eclectic than that as well, I just haven't gotten around to putting most of my music on WMP yet... you know, once I can find where I left my CDs. I hate moving; I lose more things in boxes that way...

I noticed Queensryche put out a follow up to Operation: Mindcrime, which remains one of my top 3 non-Rush albums ever. Mindcrime II--I'm going to get it pretty rapidly.
"For a price, I'll do about anything, except pull the trigger, for that I'd need a pretty good cause."
F2K - if Mindcrime II is any good, would you let us/me know? Operation: Mindcrime is ridiculously good; "Revolution Calling" is practically my mantra.

Celtic Frost will be coming through the states in a few months, but of course I am worried to go and destroy yet another good memory from my youth. I saw them with Exodus after "in to the pandemonium"(so-so record) and then scoffed at them a couple years later when all of the bad aspects of metal wore off on them. Morbid Angel is still one of the best bands of all time. They haven't released a bad album and they are up to "I" in the alphabet :) For some newer material that you might enjoy, I would recommend hunting down "where monsters dwell" by Portland's almighty Engorged! I can't believe it took this long for someone to mention........CARCASS!(up to necrotism)
