Pathfinder #4: lost in the narrative woods

Just finished Dynamite comic Pathfinder #4, written by Jim Zub, illustrated by Andrew Huerta, and colored by Ross Campbell.

The Good:
Seeing the characters working in the River Kingdoms in the Echo Woods is pretty awesome. I wonder if they will get to Thornkeep? That might be good, if we can see it...which brings me to:

The Bad:
I get that it's the woods, and it is dark and spooky. But the number of panels using only black, dark purple, and dark blue will leave you looking for the contrast and brightness settings. Throw in the flat, featureless backgrounds: one tone sky, no pencil details at all, and low-contrast coloring make the panels look rushed and unfinished.

Even with too-dark unfinished panel art, the story can save it...but it doesn't. The first part of narrative seems like a rehash of previous "walking in the woods" set ups. When the druid Lini is met, she uses abilities not listed in her character sheet in the same issue! Nit picking? I don't think so: this is a Pathfinder, shouldn't it follow its own rules?

The second half of the book is left me bored and skimming till the end.

In short: bad coloring, indistinct pencils, and unclear stereotypical dialog will leave the reader putting it down and moving on to the next comic in the sub.
