Yuki, if I'd known you didn't have a ranged weapon, I (a) could give you Dare's crossbow as it is a backup she is unlikely to ever need much (she'll use ranged cantrips first), and (b) would have suggested we get you one out of the 1,000 gp credit from Oleg. All we bought was Adela's 350 gp armor (GM, did I get my two potions of Shield of Faith?). So we're only 450 down, if I got my potions, and have plenty to spare. Would it be okay with everyone to use the credit to get that for you when we get back? My understanding is a lot of this adventure involves outdoor encounters so some are going to start from fairly far away--and as we get to higher levels, we may have to deal with flying enemies. So ranged weapon is gonna be useful (and I don't think it's really metagaming to consider that given our in character mission is to explore the wilderness).

As for helpful actions, I think you get a standard action. Total defense works, but you could also move and/or draw a weapon or take out another item you might want to use.

If I may selfishly suggest, also use a free action to draw Dare's attention to the actual spider. ;)

You've got a +3 to Dex. You can certainly use a ranged weapon competently enough; don't need a "ranged build," just be able to handle stuff when the attacker is in the sky or a tree or just far away.

(For this fight, I pictured the scene as we were much closer to the spider, FWIW. I honestly thought we were like 20 feet away at most.)

It plays out better organically this way rather than trying to go back and retroactively decide she'd bought a weapon, IMO. No adventurer's perfect!

I'm wondering if she can have a few prank items (the same type) she hands out or buries with those she thinks needs/would benefit from them in the after life?

I'm currently thinking a deck of cards in a box. And it basically lets you play "Pick up 52" when opened

Sure! As long as your items don't have any mechanical uses, we can say you have on hand whatever trinkets you like. (So no, like, "I use my card-scattering box to locate the invisible monster" or whatever. If you want to do that, we'll have to agree ahead of time what items you've got and what they can do.) Maybe like 2 gp to cover them all?

Forgive me if the RP is over much, Dare's just sulking (and thinks Bokken didn't warn them so they'd buy more healing potions). She'll get over it.

The RP is fine, we keep getting new characters joining the party and the different personalities shaking up the dynamic are great.

Finding your characters voice and letting it come naturally makes role playing so much easier.

I know Adela hasn't spoken much with Dare and Yuki yet, that is more because I'm playing her as someone who is unexposed to a lot of the wider world. She feels like a fish out of water at times and tends to observe things until she feels she understands what's going on.

She is adjusting to the adventuring life, it was a bit of shock to a city girl at first.

Adela wasn't very happy with Bokken either, but she's still much more formal in expressing her disapproval. :)

I thought I posted here, but with the site problems over the past few days I guess I didn't.

So there's the quest to find Falgrim Sneeg, although you don't know where he is. (There's a bandit camp near this edge of the forest, but that's all you really have to go on right now.) There are also Wanted posters at Oleg's for the head of a tatzlwyrm and the head of a boar-monster named Tuskgutter, although (as far as I'm aware) you don't currently have any idea where they might be.

I am still sorting through some ... stuff. One disaster happened and then several more smaller but still concerning ones. I will be okay but I just do not have the wherewithal to post yet. Keep moving without me and I'll post IC as soon as I can. The general proposition to moving on is fine with me. If in doubt, Dare will set it on fire (provided it is reasonably not in danger of spreading).

All good on the RP commentary, being a newbie just want to be sure we're on the same page. And nope, I don't feel cheated. :)

Hi all, trying to get back into things. The cart folks're talking about, is that the caravan? Do we have the capacity to carry whatever we need to make camp without it?

I generally agree with Adela it might be a good idea to not try to bring the horses into areas they can't traverse easily. But we should probably note what we take with us if we leave them with Oleg.

I believe we've been using the cart we found at the bandit camp along with a horse to travel and carry more things than we could carry by ourselves.

What I'm suggesting is leaving the cart at Oleg's when we move to exploring the forest hexes. Not the best terrain for it.

As soon as she has enough saved Adela is getting a Handy haversack for herself. :)
