I love that after my ex wife cheating on me I now have a new lady in my life that loves my three boys and they love her

I love the fact that my 3 little boys all play nicely togeather and give each other hugs on the morning and kisses at bed time

Well said quibblemuch that's exactly the kind of game I enjoy as well and is how I tty to run all my games

My grievance is people post uber damage builds on the forums that can kill an ancient wyrm with one hit .
Then loads of others copy it like simple minded sheep because they think it's "cool" to be able to one shot things instead of being creative and think for themselves

Isn't that why you have a party everyone has what they are good at so you have to work togeather to cover all the bases

Hi all just a quick rant but after I had been looking at few post I just have to say .
IS it me or have magic items just become another resource to be brought and sold as needed players and by default thair characters see them as no more than aids in making them machines that are mathematical more likely to smeg the next encounter.
So they can get more loot to take to ye olde magic mart and buy another gross of scrolls potions and other magical gear to fit in with there pre-planed character concept.
Where is the wonder gone and the excitement when players find a new item among a treasure trove, I'm not saying players should not be able to buy minor magic items in big citys , but when I see people comparing the price of things to find the most cost effective way of doing things then sorry in my mind your missing out on the point a bit magic items like staffs,wands and other items should be rare and wonderful.
Not just something to be crossed of as you use them like torches arrows and rations

Now days I'm more worried about rule playing than roll playing

I didn't think you could have to much role playing in a role play game

However the DM interprets it is what matters .
So long as it is constant then no worries

I love throwing birthday parties for my kids and seeing them and there friends have fun playing in the sunshine.
While I sit a chat to friends that I've known for over 20 years

It was 1981 on my summer break from school
Our dad brought home a game called Dungeons and Dragons no board no pieces just 2 books a crayon and some funny looking dice.
A few days later I sat down with my dad and older brother and rolled up my first character a fighter my brother did a cleric .
So our first game we went through about 4 rooms of a dungeon and then where killed just after my brother said the immortal line
"Look it just 6 orcs how hard can they be"
I was hooked from day one few weeks later back at school I got my best friend in to it and 35 years later me my friend and my dad still play every Friday. good times still

And I love that my yongest son is almost 1
And that my oldest son starts school this September

Hi all sorry I've not been about for a while but life has got in the way of gaming (not that I'm complaining when the slice of life is my third son).
I was just wondering how meny house rules you use in your games ?
And is there a particular area of rules that seem to get house ruled the most .
And how much thought and debate goes into making these rules
And this is purely out or idol curiosity

To me old school is a style of play where you could be a bit fast and lose with the rules you don't need perfect scale maps and minis (although it is nice sometimes) games tended to be a bit faster paced especially in combat there was no players measuring how far they where from the bad guys so the mage could drop a fireball on them or spending ages working out there characters route to a bad guy so he can get flanking bonus and avoid aoo .
Players where more interested in a good story than how to advance there character ability, now I know some of this is down to how the game system has advanced over the years and I think most of the changes are for the good but I can't help but feel that something has been lost along the way.
And I know some of you will say I've got my rose tinted glasses on, and there is of course a bit of that in the mix as well and I know that most people who play have a great time (which is the most important thing)
I just think that maybe we've all become a bit to worried about "how the game is played" when what's important is "how we play the game"

I love the sound of 20 kids all laughing at my son's 2nd birthday party

I love that my new baby is already sleeping 4 hours at a time so I only have to wake up once a night to do a feed

I think the roll player Vs role player argument is over blown
There are always players who want the most powerful character they can make so make all there choices based on the mechanics of the rules and then try to think of a way to explain all there choices with a bizarre back story that often never works
And total role players will often make choices based purely on some strange background that they have dreamed up for there character in an effort to make a unique character which again often doesn't work
Finding the balance is the trick solid choices in Feats and skills are needed but they shouldn't have to be the absolute best they can be
And just because a character idea has been used before doesn't make it a bad one its all down to the player and how they play the game
Because all said and done it is only a game

I love that my new son will get to be christened by our vicar before she retires in October .
As she married my wife and I christened my other two sons and sadly buried our daughter

I love that this threads been going for over 4 years

I love that my older two son's love there baby brother so much that they argue over who gets to cuddle him first in the morning

No fair I thought I was the zombie coffee and mints course

Maybe I should clarify that as a DM I'm not into killing players if there just unlucky bad s#*+ happens in game (as in real life) but I would rather leave a player unconscious and bleeding out giving there comrades a chance to save them than just finish them off.
But I've also seen players acting dumb because they wrongly believe that I won't just kill characters.
In fact in a recent game a second lvl character picked a fight with a much higher lvl npc and for 7 or 8 rounds the npc just toyed with him doing 1 or 2 points of damage each round
The player then got a lucky crit which took about a third of the npc's hit points and he made a smug remark in character to annoy the npc so next round the npc did a full attack which left him on minus 30+ hit points .
The player then kicked off that it wasn't a fair fight and he had no chance when several of the other players all said "but you started it you f%&$wit"

I would be more interested in new campaign settings than a 2nd edition
Or even just generic sanarios that you put anywhere you want in a game world

I love that my new baby boy is back at home with his brothers
Despite being born 4 weeks early due to complexations

I love that tomorrow I'll get to hold my new son for the first time being a father is the greatest thing to ever happen to me

I love that my son would sooner go for a walk in the woods .
Than go to the movies

I love spending sunny days with my family at a fun amusement park

I love spending sunny afternoons at the beach with my family

Oh we want to learn how to defend ourselves from knives do we !
Well when some homercidel manic comes at you with a bunch of logan berry's don't come crying to me

My advice for what it's worth take a few days off with you lady just pack your car draw up a list of interesting places that our at least a couple of hours away and pick one drive there find a motel and spend a few days looking at the local sights doing nothing but enjoying each others company and do nothing to do with your normal life's
As they say a change is as good as a rest

I love having family movie afternoons with my wife and two boys all eating hot popcorn

I love taking my boys to feed the ducks in the park and having lunch by the lake

I love having a sunny day for my son's third birthday

I love the fact that while out shopping with my son he buys his brother a gift with his birthday money

I love going shopping with my son so he can spend his birthday money

I love spending the day with my wife and boy's at the park followed by a lovely Sunday roast at my parents house

I love knowing that my wife and I are expecting our third son

I love that tomorrow I'll find out the sex of my unborn chilid

I love helping my boys make a mothers day card

Not sure if this is the right place for this but here goes
Played in my normal Thursday night game last night with one difference our two resident power gamers where both no shows as one had left his character because he knew in advance he wouldn't be there we played on with me npcing one of the missing characters .
The game was fairly normal except there was no whining about how they thought rules should work or constant page flicking to look up odd Feats or spells .
There was a good deal of laughing and fun being had as the rest of us got on with it and still survived the combats and other events of the game.
In fact we all had so much more fun we are seriously thinking of ditching the two other players as they are just bringing the rest of us down

I'm not against options they can add a great deal I don't like options just for the sake of it
I would prefer a few less options that are well thought out a throughly play tested and less open to abuse which less face it does happen probably more often then we would admit
I also find it amazing at how often players are playing unusual or strange race and or class combinations mainly for the advantages that they get in game

I love that my boys adore there grand parents and love going see them

I love going out for ice cream and waffles with my wife and boys and having there nan (my mum) come along

I love early morning cartoons with my two boys

I love the fact that my son is the smartist kid in his class at day care

I love having a scan with my wife and seeing my unborn babies heart beat for the first time
it take's my breath away everytime

I love when my eldest boy calls to his brother to come and play with him
I love when my boys climb in to bed with the wife and i in the mornings and give us both hugs
