for christmas this year i got two books by otis adelbert kline from pulpville press tam son of the tiger which i just finished its a great novel and i also got port of peril a novle set on venus havnt started that one yet looks like ill be buying swardsman of mars next month and possably outlaws of mars as well
the issue also has a short story by kline called the malignant entity a weird mystary story about a flesheating creature it was also published in amazing stories in 1928 klines stories just seem to grab me his first weird tales story was a two part seriel called the thing of a thousand shapes appered in the first issue i remember when i receved the second issue replica in the mail i hurridly ripped open the package like a kid on christmas day so i could finish the story oh and also i read the lovecraft houdini collabration imprisoned with the pharaohs it was great also my dad was watching nova the other night about the sphinx and i showed him the cover painting on the weird tales issue he though it was a nice painting of the sphinx
Erik thanks for the heads up the why weird tales artical will be the first thing i read that lovecraft houdini collaberation is another story im looking forwerd to the issue also has 3 other stories that sold the issue for me the malignant entity by OAK the werewolf of st bonnot by Seabury Quinn and the loved dead by CM Eddy the story that saved weird tales from bankruptcy in 1924
i will get swardsman of mars soon cant at the moment i just ordered a replica of weird tales the may/june/july issue it has a short story by kline and also an editorial by kline called why weird tales? it explanes why they published horror fiction i will get swardsman of mars as the next book in my collection almuric looks great to as im a big Robert E Howard fan i also read that otis adelbert kline was insturmental in getting almuric published in weird tales way back when
recently i celibrated my 24th birthday as a gift i recieved a replica of weird tales Jul/Aug 1923 issue the opening story a 2 part story called sunfire by Gertrude Barrows Bennett aka Francis Stevens shes a cited influence of both Lovecraft and Merritt its a story of five explorers who come upon a uncharted island where things aurnt quite as they seem its a great lost world story
Mr Mona kuttner truly is a great auther and he can write horror action and funny stuff all at once i read the salem horror one of kuttners cthulu stories and found it to be very creepy i read the world is mine in robots have no tales late one night and laughed so hard i woke my dad up im just not sure what to get next elak or the dark world
i have to say i have no problems with the two colume text i have 2 replicas of weird tales in my collection and they both have columed text its actuly easier to read for me i just receved word my copies of robots have no tales and hounds of skeath have shipped im really looking forwerd to getting my first shot at kuttners talent im hopeing he is as good as his wife
iv read and heard alot about Mr. Kline and recently got my first taste of his work well recently i got a collectors replica of weird tales #1 1923 for my collection in it is the first of many seriels Mr Kline contributed to WT called the thing of 1,000 shapes a rather scary ghost story of a shapechangeing ghost but his writing is superb and some parts of the story gave me jumps lol and its a two parter so i have to get the next replica im thinking of buying one of his planet stories volumes im just not sure wich one
today i was out at a local book store looking through the sci fi section and i found a used copy of Steppe so i went into the reading area and read the first few pages its really good i almost bought it on the spot i then looked at my copys of northwest of earth and the ginger star i decided to wait and buy steppe from planet stories when it comes out from them
well looks like black gods kiss is it im still in the middle of northwest of earth and CL Moores stories have grabbed hold of me and screamed "Read Me" im also reading the Eric J Stark series by Leagh Brackett im on the ginger star and its so good i thought of reading it all in one sitting but dragged it out to savor the good story REHs Almurac is also on my list

i just got into planet stories since i got Northwest of earth for christmas i just ordered the ginger star as well but i have a small request ever since i saw the swardsman of mars and the outlaws of mars by Otis Adelbert Kline i was hopeing at some point you could publish his novel Tam Son of the Tiger. wow i got Northwest of earth for christmas. Iv been so busy with other things that i have not been able to start reading it till now i am blown away Ms Moore is a great story teller. In Northwest Smith i can really see han solo and indiana jones also maybe a little james bond to. also the way she discribes planets is beautiful. i read through shambleau in one read and im hooked. i would like to thank the good people at planet stories for giving me the opertunity to read this great collection |
