You can always strike at an empty square though, maybe there is an undetected creature in it. Though that would raise your MAP.

Allowing this at the normal Ref DC is not, IMO, a great idea, first, this is by RAW mechanically impossible to do.

You are perfectly right. I did not realize that a redcap is a creature. I thought it some kind of mundane clothing I did not know xD

I assume every spell attack is Magical.

That might be correct but magical is not the damage type. The different damage types are physical, energy, alignment, mental, poison, bleed(also physical) and precision(special case).

Core Rulebook pg. 451 wrote:
Damage dealt by weapons, many physical hazards, and a handful of spells is collectively called physical damage. The main types of physical damage are bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing. Bludgeoning damage comes from weapons and hazards that deal blunt-force trauma, like a hit from a club or being dashed against rocks. Piercing damage is dealt from stabs and punctures, whether from a dragon's fangs or the thrust of a spear. Slashing damage is delivered by a cut, be it the swing of the sword or the blow from a scythe blades trap.

I think what that implies is that all slashing, bludgeoning, etc damage is physical no matter if it comes from a spell of weapon.

I don't think that this is flavor text.

The target has to know someone who died and who they personally wronged - though not necessarily by killing them.

The rule text in question is whether or not you also know the name of that dead person that the target wronged. But yes, the apparition does need to be of someone who is dead.

It does not speak of the person who's name you cite needing to be dead though, having grievously wronged them is enough.

Quote:

If you know the names of anyone murdered or grievously wronged by an enemy in the area, you can chant those victims’ names when you cast the spell to improve the clarity of the visions, increasing the damage to the corresponding enemy from 6d6 to 6d10; you can do so for multiple enemies if you know victims of each enemy.

That being said attacking someone in a battle is by far not enough for the term grievously wronged in my opinion. So that's a No for me.

IIRC if you win Initiative by rolling Stealth and beating your opponent's Initiative (based on Perception), you act first because they did not see you coming.

But the Stealth roll is against their perception DC. So you can be undetected from them but still act after them. Since you are not unnoticed they still know that you are there.

In the rules for torches there is nothing about a single point of emanation:

Are you in all seriousness making the argument that a single torch could have multiple points of origin for the light (multiple meaning in noticeably different squares on the grid)? That seems like a really strange argument to me.

Yeah, there might technically not be anything in the rules explicitly preventing it, but there also isn't anything in the rules supporting it. And there is a lot of real-world assumptions about the meaning and nature of a 'torch' object that strongly indicates that the light is going to be coming from a single location. Not multiple points more than 5 feet distant. The rules are written in English after all.

A torch emanates light up to a certain range and so does the rope here.
Also, neither Light nor a torch say that they use emanation rules.

its an object not a single point, so obviously the light would not emanate from a single point. Point sized light sources are just a theoretic thing(google it if you want). Here is what google says about point size light sources:

Generally, a source of light can be considered a point source if the resolution of the imaging instrument is too low to resolve the source's apparent size. There are two types and sources of light: a point source and an extended source.
I only wanted to say that a torch is an extended source.
Also a torch carried by a giant might be even big enough to take multiple squares but that's besides the point.

Also, neither Light nor a torch say that they use burst rules. That is the other radius based area in the game. Also a burst is for radius from a single point, emanation for radius from an extended object. In my opinion emanation fits way better. Furthermore do you measure the radius of a light source from an corner of a square? Thats how bursts would look. I for my part have only seen light emit evenly around the square the torch is in but maybe thats different for you.

Oh. Weird. The comment I was replying to disappeared..

I remembered the minion trade as well just after posting the comment. I guess I was not quick enough though xD

But thanks for the answer anyway :)

If you consider the fact that Spellstrike is only 1/minute and effectively meaningless if all you can use is cantrips it becomes even worse.

If I have a melee martial with 14 Int, I take the Magus Dedication + Spellstrike + spellcasting feats over the Wizard Dedication + spellcasting feats + breadth without hesitation.

Which proves that they are well balanced, as you would take the other one instead.

As a side note, Spellstrike is massive, the 1/minute limitation is hardly a limitation and I will definitely never Spellstrike with anything but cantrips outside of extreme situations. You have the right to disregard Spellstrike, but the damage output with a reroll is so high that you can't say it's bad.

For a level 20 fighter with a great sword (d12) against an armor class of 45 we get:

97,9 average damage for true strike + spellstrike+d6 cantrip
77,6 average damage for true strike + power attack
78 average damage for power attack + second attack with Furious Focus and Brutal Finish (your 'standard turn')
(=> +26% damage for one turn each combat as long as you have true strike spells; take note that for one handed weapons the percentile increase is a bit higher due to the over all lesser damage)
