Zuhair (birthname Zaria) was orphaned as a child after their father was found torn to shreds by at the time an unknown creature. The baby was found unharmed and bundled up warmly in another part of the merchant caravan. The band of merchants became a collective family that would raise the child as a way to pay off any remaining debts for their late friend.
A strong child that took to helping around the caravan especially when hauling goods to their respective buyer but Zuhair also had a temper that seemed to dwell deep inside, almost inhuman, but it was sporadic leaving most unconcerned. Yet puberty brought with it more troubling signs as the teenager began to show signs of some affliction with streaks of hair losing color and nails becoming hardened black claws.
Rumors were nothing new as the death of their father was always mysterious. The campfire tales of hags in the deeper woods of Varisia and their tainted offspring soon started to share similarities with the changes in Zuhair. It was their 16th birthday when her closest caretaker in the caravan pulled her aside. The fortune teller recounted the night she was left at her wagon's door and how she spotted the ghoulish silhouette of a fleeing monster.
"It wasn't just the appearance but the foul magic that hung in the air. I have been sensing it again lurking about when we make camp...come darling we must get you to safety." she hurriedly spoke while wiping away tears. As the night continued the information on hags was shared between the two and with some reluctance the decision was made. Zuhair would sneak aboard a passing caravan the next day headed for Magnimar.
It was then that they took a new name and cut their long locks down into a tight ponytail. The unnaturally broad frame made cloaking their femininity underneath armor and cloak much more convincing.
The voices started soon after. Looking for help she followed any lead she could find for answers ultimately leading her to a mercenary group that made a comfortable living hunting the various monsters around the nation. They would teach her of monsters and which ghost stories were real but more than anything they gave her a way to focus the rage building inside, a way to drown out the voice calling her into the wilds. The years ahead were mostly training but she recently received her first real job, to look into information on the Sandpoint Devil to decide if it was real or a ghost story.
