Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Awww, we didn't even get to see the sea dwarves. :P

In seriousness though, thanks for being my DM, it was fun while it lasted.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

I'm at max HP.

I'm sorry to say this, but it looks like the thread died on us. Darche hasn't posted in 7 days, Frum hasn't posted in 4, and Skender will be gone until Sunday. :/

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Zachary sits down at the base of the willow, glad to be done with the cold weather. He cooks a bird he caught (DC 10 Survival, take 10), and still has enough meat from it to feed one other. He can take second watch again tonight.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Zachary also collects firewood, putting a pile of it next to the campfire so they can keep it going in the night. He then takes the berries from Rafael and chows down, happy to have something even if it isn't much. He looks at the tree, and a slow smile spreads on his face. He's glad to see that spring is coming soon.

He calls to the party, "I'll get second watch, or third if necessary."

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

I'm still in for the long haul on this one. Skender is away on his cruise now, but I can tell you he is too.

By the by Patcher, I was going to go Mystic Theurge on this character, and the idea came to me to choose Oracle instead of Cleric. The way I was thinking, my new powers would be the gifts of the gods after we freed them. Does that sound okay to you?

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

I'm not too busy, I was just giving permission in case. I'm not planning on being away anytime soon, and I check it 3 or 4 times each day too. :P

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Nope, you aided another, but no one did the action, unless Patcher lets you retcon the Aid Another.

Zachary blows on his hands a bit, then finds a nearby fallen branch of approximate torch size. He cleans the branch of leaves and smaller branches, then uses Spark to light it. He then passes the lit branch to Frum.

"Here, it probably won't last long, but you can warm your hands above this fire as we walk. Best to keep warm, so yer cold doesn't get worse."

Zachary tucks his hands into his shirt to keep them warm as he walks. He hums an old folk song as he walks, though he is out of tune and seems to make up bits where he can't recall how the tune goes.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

"Well, Frum said this village is in the southeast, right?"

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

I'd be fine with DM Patcher running my character if I take too long to post/tell you that I'm going to be gone for a while. If it's only a few days or a week, he can just DMPC it. If it's more like a couple weeks or a month, it'd probably be best if my character caught a cold and stayed at town, or something along those lines.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Zachary walks along the road toward the village, staying next to Lucca.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Zachary looks puzzled by Rafael's comment. "What? Why would we go to the prison? Let's just keep on the course we had planned originally."

Didn't notice that my last one wasn't posted as Zachary. Sorry about that.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Still at -2, if a CLW could be tossed my way...

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Should probably at the very least move the bodies away from camp, if not bury them. I dunno about you, but trying to get to sleep next to a couple of corpses would be unsettling to me.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Yeah, the way we use them IRL is that a x3 just increases the listed damage on a card by a step, and x4 by two steps, etc. For example, if the card says "double damage and 1d4 bleed" a x4 weapon would be double (x2) and then +2, to x4. It's one of the optional rules listed, and I think it works fine.

I think the crit cards are a cool idea, even if the execution is a bit off balance. People get excited when cards are being drawn from either deck, because something really good/bad is about to happen. As long as no one builds a character intent on abusing the crit deck, it's a cool thing to have. Of course, I'm not suggesting we do it on the PbP, just giving my 2cp on the decks.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Zachary will wish he wasn't nearby the man, because he probably has face on him now. DX

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Gotcha.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Sorry, had a brain fart. Though I would like to know fumble rules.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Actually, rethinking it, I dunno if fumbles were ever mentioned. How is that gonna work? Nat 1's are simply misses, or we roll to confirm, and something worse happens if we confirm the fumble?

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Was the second attack your second claw attack?
You need to roll a fumble confirmation.
Unless Patcher says we aren't playing that way, of course...

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Zachary continues to lay on the ground, inhaling and exhaling as necessary.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Well, according to his profile, Lucca is making melee rolls, because he has a +2 to hit ranged, and a +0 to hit melee, and he's been rolling d20+0. Specifically, it's a morningstar.

Couldn't they occupy my square, since I'm unconscious? It doesn't specifically say so in the prone condition description, but if DM allows it, that would solve the 5-foot movement problem.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Zachary has Dex: 14, Init: +2

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Okay, so instead of the other action:

Zachary's claws transform back into fingers. His angry facial expression turns into a look of pain, and he collapses to the floor, spitting out a spray of blood.

Con check to stabilize vs. DC 13: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Frum, if your intention was to flank with me, I'm at -3, so...

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

As long as something doesn't drastically change the fight (like the creep being knocked out before my turn), this is what I'll do:

Zachary regains a bit of his composure, though he's still engaged and fighting. His claws recede, and he instead tries to punch the man out, not wanting another person to die today.

Unarmed attack, provokes AoO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Nonlethal Damage: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Rafael Ler'it wrote:
Maybe easier just to have a single initiative for all the enemies?

Normally, I split initiative into every different type of enemy. However, for play-by-posts, I think it would be best to group them into one, for convenience and efficiency.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

I updated my profile to contain all my trackables.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Actually, an 11 is enough to hit (AC is only 10, because I don't have Mage Armor). I'll write the damage down.

Now that his blood has been spilt, Zachary forgets about holding back and launches an assault on the crazed man, slashing with both hands.

First Claw Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Second Claw Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

3 rounds of claws remaining.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

First, free action to extend claws. Move to H4 and aid another on Frum, to give +2 AC.
Attack for Aid Another: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Zachary advances upon the crazed man, his fingers extending and sharpening to claws. He slashes in front of the man's face in an effort to hold his attacks off of Frum.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Fortitude for the cold:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

As the rest of the party awakens, Zachary says to them, "I see some creep watching us from the bushes over there." He points to the bush. "Watch out, there are also wolves around here. Be ready for a fight."

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Zachary shouts, loud enough to wake the others. "Come out of there! I can see you and your wolves! What are you planning on doing?"

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Long-term care requires 8 hours. I think you should sleep instead.

About two hours into the first watch, Zachary starts to whimper in his sleep. He's turning in his bedroll, muttering something. He seems to be having a bad dream.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Zachary takes a few bites from the wandermeal before Rafael returns to camp with food, then hands it back to Skender. He instead takes a squirrel-kebob and digs in, swigging from his waterskin on occasion. He gets Rafael to refill the waterskin before placing it in his pack and taking out his bedroll. He says, "I'll get second watch." Before tucking in and going to sleep.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Zachary rubs his hands together and blows on them, clearly not dressed for the cold weather. He rips some branches off a nearby tree, puts some dry tinder underneath these branches, and casts Spark at the pile, aimed toward the drier tinder.

"Do any of you have some food?"

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

I have a rank in Know(religion), and a +2, so I could try aid another. It'll be a better mod at second level, whenever that is.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Frum, it's been said in the ooc thread, but I guess you didn't read it. You can't take 20 on knowledge checks.

I'm sorry, I've been distracted by the other PbP games - a whole bunch of bull drama going on, players acting passive-aggressively, players lashing out on others OoC...it's dampened my motivation as a whole.

The spell looks fine, Rafael. I'm astonished by your dedication to the homebrew and your creativity, and I will most likely revise my dedication priorities and give this a little more focus. You all deserve that.

As for experience, I'm actually considering going with tracking experience - and giving you the slow tracker (3000 XP for level 2) - the reason is that I honestly want to make this adventure as epic as possible.

The only foreseeable "problem" I can imagine at this point is combat. With 7 players, a challenging encounter lines up to crawl to a halt every single time...

All right, so should we start tracking experience? And, how much do we have thus far?

I think Rafael has the right idea, as far as combat goes. If it takes a few more days, it's no big deal.

Rafael Ler'it wrote:

Rafael says to Lucca and Zachary as he and Donte rush to catch up with them, "You are not going to save the world without me! Wait up!"

Rafael catches his breath. The rattling gear on the back of Donte settles down to a regular beat.

A few moments later he sighs and says, "The others will come when they are ready."

We head south-east: Untrained Survival check (DC 10): 1d20+3 - Success

Zachary's still dazed, but Rafael's words help to shake him out of his trance.

He turns to Rafael, a half-smaile on his face, and says, "Yes, I think that none of us will be able to save the world without the others. We can wait for them, too." He draws a long breath, avoiding meeting Lucca or Rafael's gaze, and mutters, "Could I have some water?"

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Wow, I'm surprised how emotional I'm getting with my posts. This is pretty intense.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Zachary will place his holy symbol (he had one of Nethys) at the tip of the fallen spire, tears still falling down his cheeks. He is deeply moved that Darche has the conviction to keep digging, not giving up on the fallen even as hopeless as their survival seems. However, Rafael's words have struck deep into Zachary, and he realizes that there isn't any saving that they can do. He comes up behind Darche, quietly avoiding the debris he's throwing to the sides, and gently taps his shoulder.

"Darche, brother," he croaks, snot now running unheeded down his face, "Darche, its okay. We can only help them now with our prayers." A lump catches in his throat, and he can't stop himself from quietly sobbing again. He turns away from the collapsed academy and starts to walk, not noticing nor caring in which direction.

DM Patcher wrote:
There are no eyes on you either

Nonsense, we've got a dragon eye on us!

Zachary stands at the lip of the fallen spire, glancing at it from different angles in an exasperated attempt to find a way into it. However, he soon realizes that there are no screams from inside the ruins, and sorrow starts to set in. He stands still for a moment, a glazed look in his eye. His shoulders are drooped in resignation, his expression one of someone who wants desperately to fix something he can't. He starts to tear up, and fights hard to keep himself from crying. However, he gives in to the pain, and collapses into a heap of sobbing.

The academy, the one place in the world where he was worth something, the one place where he had friends, was gone. His friends all lay underneath the rubble in front of him, and he was powerless to free them. He bawls, unrestrained, for several minutes.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Sorry about starting this, Patcher.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

@Frum - After cooling off a bit, I understand your point, that we are needed to save the world and can't risk our lives. However, Zachary is as hot-headed as me, so he isn't contemplating much. :P

I, for one, will not stand idly by while this happens. I won't watch as my friends die and shrug. We can surely find some way to help.

These are your friends, your peers. We don't have to go out of our way to save them, they're right there. Geez, why is the Chaotic Neutral one trying to convince the Lawful Good one it's in his best interest?

Geez man, they're your own students, a bit heartless eh?
He wants the student army to take revenge for the ones that were killed. He isn't wanting to kill the students. He wants to kill everything that screwed with everything.

What I meant was, your own students are dying all around you and you are concerned with making them into a personal army?

Zachary stares dumbfounded for a while, the shock of it taking away his words and his breath. However, the screams of the dying ring in his ears, bringing him back to reality. He sprints off toward the fallen ruins of the spires, intent on finding survivors and bringing them to safety.
Wild thoughts race through his head. How could this have happened? Why? As he runs, he starts to piece things together. It couldn't have been a coincidence. Not this soon after they had destroyed the crystal. However, he pushes the thoughts aside for now, determined to stave off the Lady of Graves from collecting more souls as best as he could.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

Alright, I guess this is making sense now. However, I think it's worth noting that for some opposed checks you could take 10, or maybe 20. The example I have in mind is Disguise vs. Sense Motive.

The one using Disguise could take 10 or 20 on the Disguise, as long as they aren't interrupted when making the disguise. It says that retries are ok, so taking 20 is no problem.

However, the guy Sensing Motive could take 10, but not 20, because it says retries are not allowed. however, he could take his time in assessing the other guy, and so taking 10 is plausible.

I think the reason you confused the two so easily is how they're named. However, if you read the two, taking 20 takes 20 times the amount of time, and assumes you are failing many times before you get it right. Taking 10 doesn't require additional time, and you only do the action once.
