Greeting oh ye of the Rules Questions forum, for I have a question on my own.
I am the GM in a game I'm running, with the party containing a druid that is very fond of casting 'Grove of Respite' at the end of each day. But the other day, a question came up, regard said spell, that I couldn't properly answer, and still can't, after googling around for an answer.
The area within the grove is temperate and comfortable, like that of a tiny hut, although the grove provides no illumination and provides no protection from the elements. The water in the grove's spring is clean and drinkable. Additionally, the trees provide a variety of ripe fruit, regardless of season, which acts as a Goodberry spell for up to eight people. The grove is warded with an alarm spell that alerts you whenever any creature enters the area. Once the spell expires, the grove vanishes, including all fruit, water, and other materials from it, although any nourishment or healing gained from its effects remains.
The spell mentions this: The trees provide a variety of ripe fruit, regardless of season, which acts as a Goodberry spell for up to eight people.
Yet, that doesn't make it entirely clear, for neither me nor my group, what the spell actually means with 'eight people', as the Goodberry spell:
Has that 2d4 component to it.
My question is basically this: How much hp would a character be able to recover, by staying in a Grove of Respite for one night, and eating as much of the fruits of said grove as they can?
Would this be, 1 hp per person, up to 8 people?
Would this be, 8 hp (per the Goodberry limit) per person, assuming there was enough fruit for everyone, as there would be (8*2)d4 amount of 'Goodberry fruit' around?
How would you rule in this situation? Any references to FAQ (if I managed to miss them) or so would be appreciated, but just your opinion (and how you and your group have done it in the past,) is very welcome as well.
Thank you.
