About Whaykim Panuvel

It was always assumed that Whaykim would end up on the Watch Wall or serve with the Sacred Brotherhood of the Gryphon as his father, brothers and so many of his uncles and cousins did. This idea suited him fine until it came time to actually serve the good people of Talingarde. Such service was a lot of work and it seemed like he was paid a mere pittance for so much effort--the early morning exercising, the long hours spent patrolling, everyone always shouting; it seemed hardly worth it.

Soon, it became apparent that Whaykim was not suited to be a member of the city guard or the Sacred Brotherhood, despite his family's storied history with the two organizations. He did, however, display a particular knack for bureaucracy. He whizzed through paperwork that other members found boggling and tedious, seeming to possess an inborn understanding of, if not outright appreciation for, esoteric rules and regulations. He discovered loopholes and shortcuts to make his life easier and quickly learned to bend to serve his purposes the strictures that only nuisanced others. Rather than being expelled for his dismal performance in the martial aspect of the job, Whaykim was fast-tracked into the Quartermaster's office where his natural talent shone.

Rising quickly through the ranks, Whaykim found himself in charge of the Watch Wall's stores where he easily parlayed this position into a booming and lucrative side business. Owing to his skill and discretion, Whaykim became well known throughout the shadier side Talingarde as the man to see if you wanted something hard to come by. There were no limits to what he could procure, everything and anything ranging from the mundane, the magical, the profane on up to the most awful things borne of the cruelest, most twisted minds could be had. If it existed, Whaykim would get it provided the price was right. It was not Whaykim's fault that there were so many avaricious cretins, weak willed degenerates and disgusting perverts in Talingarde. He was simply responding to an existing demand; if he did not supply these people with what they wanted, someone would come along and offer the service to fill their needs. Why shouldn't that someone be him?

Things progressed along famously under Whyakim's watchful eye. Out the front of the Regimental Quartermaster's Office, he moved uniforms, supplies, foodstuffs and all the sundries associated with the operation of a city watch. Out of the back door, Whaykim moved everything else, building himself quite an empire and accumulating a small fortune over the years.

When Loxiv, his right hand man, approached him with a deal that seemed to good to be true, Whaykim should have known that it was, indeed, too good to be true. Although human trafficking was normally reserved for outside of city limits, Loxiv had vouched for the slaver, whose particular circumstances required normal procedure suspended. Whaykim was reluctant but, when he set eyes upon the two transcendentally beautiful young girls the slaver was looking to unload at a steal of a deal, his reservations evaporated. He was confident they would go so quickly--fetching a tidy sum, of course--that it would be as if they had never even been in the city in the first place.

Unfortunately, this proved to be his error for Loxiv had gotten himself busted and was being squeezed: give up his boss or be sent to Brandescar himself. The whole thing was a set up and the moment gold passed from Whaykim to the slaver, the Brotherhood swept in.

Tried and convicted of slave-trading in short order, Whaykim found himself stripped of his wealth and sentenced to be beheaded. Consigned to Branderscar to await his fate, he has cautiously started to rally his resources. He is willing to spend every copper he secreted away over the years and call in every favour from every contact he has to buy his way off of the chopping block. Once his freedom is secured, by whatever means necessary, Whaykim will see the traitor Loxiv burn. He will also wreak vengeance upon those so quick to condemn him, many of whom he had held traffic with in the past and even some that had enjoyed the proceeds of the very crime he was tried for. If his revenge means that all of Talingarde must burn, so be it.
