Background:
Angels may hate devils due to their unrestrained evil. Azata may hate devils because of their tyrannicalways. But no one hates devils as much as the demons, oftentimes for no reason at all.
It's no surprise, then, that Cheliax is constantly infiltrated by demonic agents, sowing chaos, wreaking havoc and causing mayhem. And among them are succubi and incubi, and where are succibi there are half-fiends, for a lust fiend knows no restraint.
Volco was found at the doorstep of the Vestori orphanage in a basket, maybe forsaken for his appearance, maybe from a parent who couldn't afford to raise him. Whatever the cause, he was raised with other orphans by the kind-hearted Kasidra Vestori, devil's blood and angel's soul. And uder her tutelage, Volco grew up a smart kid, with a penchant for alchemy and clockwork, using his song, spidery fingers to craft beautiful things, perfumes and machinery, his masterpiece being a mechanical spring-powered clockwork spider. And his heritage did not show itself through bloodlust or destruction, but rather in a powerful desire for freedom and rebellion. A desire that only burnt brighter under the Thrune oppression.
During the Civil War, Volco had been very young, but the tales of the Silver Ravens had spread in Kintargo like wildfire; the tale of the brave freedom fighters inflamed the tiefling's passionate heart, and he started following their thread, hoping that one they they would free Kintargo from the Thrune tyranny. Day after day, the dream of joining the brave secret agents grew brighter, and as he studied the tactics of rebellion, revolt and revolution, he started brewing incendiary devices too, that the Thrune could taste the flames of hell for themselves. And his occasion to finally meet a contact came, at Aria Park...
Appearance:
At first sight, Volco could pass as a scrawny, silver-haired half-elf, but the tail peeking from behind a ragged overcoat, as well as the hair shifting and slithering like a nest of snakes, betray his demonic origin. His face is pale, his skin is gaunt, his eyes are dark, and he always looks like he needs a good meal and some time in the sun.
Personality:
Volco's analitical mind and his love for rebellion, rather than clashing, work in synergy to mold his character: after all, scientific breakthroughs are revolutions. He's a bold experimenter, a seeker of progress and innovation, and a firm believer in reversing the social order: why should the lazy high-born live better than the poor and talented? A fair society would bring forth such wonderful inventions and artwork!
Other than rebellion, his ancestry also shows in his love for fire: his fiendish resistance means that he has little to fear from it, and he enjoys the eerie beauty of the flames, destroying and recreating matter in catharsis.
He's not the most devout of believers, but he holds dear in his heart Irori as the patron of knowledge, Sarenrae, as her aspect of redemption appeals to his nature, and Shelyn, she who finds beauty in everything. Lately he's come to add Milani to his pantheon, every day that the Thrune rule grows more oppressive.
He considers the Vestori sisters, especially Kasidra, as his family, the parents he never had.
