About Vladimir Kuznetzov

Backstory:
Vladimir comes from a long line of Irriseni blacksmiths. Further back than even his own grandfather could define. A proud and fierce Ulfen line, they were well know for their high quality weapons, armors, and tools. This pride may have led to his undoing, and the end of his family line. Given the family trade, their smithy has always been full of orders and patrons alike, and they even boasted having filled requests for the daughters of Baba Yaga.

On one particularly busy and fateful day, Vladimir had been fielding orders and filling requests overtime for the last week, and one more patron had come in near dusk as he had just cooled his forge. He paid little to no attention to the patron, merely calling over the sound of his hammer strikes that he had neither time nor energy for anymore work. This was the wrong answer at an even more wrong time. The white witch he spoke prematurely to, did not correct his mistake, she just scowled and left before he even turned to see who it was.

She returned a week later with plans for him to build a toy soldier. Normally outside his scope of experience, he was concerned, but being for one of the white witches, he spent all his time making it perfect. He turned down every other order that came in while he worked. He was pleased by the resultant work, a solid metal toy that was strongly reminiscent of traditional Irrisen. He was even more pleased when the witch also admired his handiwork.

It was then she explained what he dared to do to her, dismissing her, as she began a ritual. He was bound magically as she worked, aware of what she was doing, but not what the result would be. As she finished, she killed him. When he opened his eyes again, everything felt different. His movements were stiff and metallic, and try as he might he could not blink away the odd feeling of a dream. It was then that the witch that killed him came into view. She explained to him that he now possessed the doll she had him build, and that he now had all the time to work tirelessly on every request she had of him.

Vladimir worked for her longer than he is aware, time meaning nothing to a sleepless automaton, but it was for at least one cycle of the daughters of Baba Yaga. Infighting amongst the witches was the only way he was able to make his escape, with the death of his captor and creator.

Since that time he has left Irrisen, finding small opportunities to revel in his work as a blacksmith. He would travel from town to town, finding down on their luck smiths, then he would fire up their forges at night while they slept, working their steel. This extra production and quality found them back on top, at least enough to get back on track. He would grab a few coins here and there to help out next time. He got so good at this that he was able to make himself some traveling gear and equipment, and finally has lately come to stop in Diobel. The large town boasted many failing smithies, as can happen in fishing towns, with all the trade being in wood, cloth, and line. Hiding during the day down in the underdocks, he saw the halfing go in, but for the sake of his anonymity has not volunteered. He is ready to help as soon as the volunteers enter to begin their search.
