Vili was born in distant Ustalav to a troupe of Varisian wanderers. His extended "family" followed the nomadic ways of their Varisian forebearers and his childhood was spent mostly on top of the family wagon riding from town to town and from country to country through much of Varisia and central Avistan.
Vili's life was far from ideal, as while he enjoyed the travel, sights, and teachings of the land, he was a poor fit for most of the activities taught to the clan's youth. Born with a club foot and poor hand coordination, meant that Vili was not very adept at the dance and larcenous games that brought the caravan most of its money to thrive.
Due to his lack of grace, Vili was more and more left to the menial tasks around the camp (gathering firewood, caring for the animals, collecting nuts/berries for food, etc.) As time went by, Vili was also delegated to care for those revered elders who had become infirm. During his time with his elders, he oft listened to their numerous stories and teachings. He learned of the stars, and how the "people" had used them from time immemorial to guide their journeys across the lands. He learned of the lands and the creatures who dwelt there, along with the old customs of the "people" and that of the nations they travel. During this time, he was also taught of the Lady of Dreams and of her eternal voyage throughout the universe.
Recently, word filtered down to the caravan of a re-dedication ceremony of a temple at a Desnan holy site. The elders decided that such an event was something the traveling troupe should not miss, so the festival became the next destination for the wandering band.
